TALES FROM THE BUNKER
Франция
Добавлен 20 фев 2022
Mark has been making Military models for 60+ years.
Tales from the Bunker will share some of his model making and also showcase completed models.
You can also see some photos of Mark's collection here pipgower.tumblr.com/
The featured video was made by @TomleyRC on a visit here a few years back.
The remote control SS Panzer Abteilung 101. 1/16 Tamiya Tiger 1 35216 was completed by Mark in 2005 just before we moved to France. (I never want to hear the whole Zimmerit debate again!)
"Early Production, converted to Mid production built in January 1944 and used in Normandy in the Summer '44.
Anti Magnetic mine coating applied using fine grade Polyfilla, 'Eduard' metal etched detail sets used for accessories, plus some scratch build details and modifications, reduced gearing for a better scale speed & metal tracks."

Stowage for Firefly - there's been a gap.
Great video thanks for the info only just recently returned to modelling so learning everything anew even the kits have improved enormously since I was a kid . I do have one question didn't the ground crews ever clean and keep these aircraft in top condition knowing what salt water and other chemicals do to the paint and metal.
The losses were horrific, just young lads who's lives were snuffed out by the the vile political human (predominantly male) ego. The older I get, the more it makes me angry. That's a lovely model.
The open canopy looks awesome!
Well, getting there. I'm gradually sanding down the upper fuselage just behing the cockpit, so the canopy fits more snuggly. Will have to respray there of course, but it will be under the open 'sunroof' so should be OK .
I really enjoy your blogs and look forward to the next one. Looks like you suffer from the same shakes I do but like you, I've discovered tea is a great answer. Perhaps you could turn that camera on Mrs. Bunker and catch her snoozing ;)
New subscriber, you two stop making me laugh so hard 😂 Big thumbs up! I've got to try your panel line technique
Outstanding.
Skimping on quality of paint and saltwater is going to leave a definitive area of deterioration.
great video , great team , have just subscribed and thats you at the 400 mark :)
Thank you!
It's looking really good. That salty weathered effect looks great. I'm just a little way behind you and you're definitely setting the standard for me to aim at. Keep us updated please.
Will do Bryan.
Very good work 😉👍
Well done ! your absolutely correct about the filament rigging and superglue reluctance to adhere , and yes fishing line is an oldie but a goodie , keep up the great work , not long found your channel and enjoy the interaction of the two of you and your models ! , cheers from Downunder
100%. I generally use EZ-line, like the elastic you have. I either feed it into the hole first and add a drop of superglue with a cocktail stick, or I drop a bit of superglue at the termination point and stretch the elastic past that and trim later.
Currently working on the same model and version myself. I decided it would be fun to build it with the wings folded. Boy was I wrong ! I shall look forward to seeing updates on your progress.
I am doing the early ship launch version in silver. The kit goes together very well i ran into difficulty with the primer i used so i have had to spend a lot of time rubbing it back to get a smooth finish. Easy line is the best for rigging in my opinion i have tried other methods and unless you're prepared to put in eyelets and small return tubes and have fantastic eyesight and steady hands it's hours of painstaking work. Thanks for your review on your build hope to see more.
Awesome looking build! Good work!
Thank you.
Mark that was really interesting but made more so because of your knowledge do the kits come with the extra information or have you gained all the extra information from other places, have you ever had the opportunity to fly in any of the older plans l think there are several places in England that offer this experience. Just one more question l was looking for something different to buy my nephew who is thirty there use to be a shop selling air fix but it as close down, which do you think would be a good one to start with he his an engineer and from being very small as always like to make things in three d. Kathy just a big idear there for some ones big birthday does mark have some were to show off these models see you soon look after each other big huggles from Lynda ❤❤
Most kits come with potted histories of the subject ; but my father served in WW2, so I started picking up the history early on , and inherited his aircraft books. I've not flown in an older aircraft, but have been inside several : Spitfire, Lancaster, Halifax, Catalina, He 111. Have flown a Westland Whirlwind helicopter as passenger, been taken up in a Chipmunk, to fly it briefly straight and level. Those aren't old as such . As to what kit to recommend ...... crikey. What are your nephew's interests? What subject would he get involved in? For me it has been WW2, but the posibilities are almost endless. Airfix are a good brand, but Tamiya have a good reputation for well engineered models that go togther easily.
Great to hear your chats again.
i just completed a Halifax BIII model of 462 SQN Z5-A MZ447 which my great grandad flew during ww2 and was shot down in.
Ryefield Firefly kit is a superior tooling to asuka, tighter detail and cast marks, options for bogey facia and wheels(as far as I can remember) and in grey “tinny” styrene is easier on the eyes.Pukka work, cheers for sharing.
This is a really good modelling video. Because it's like having a casual chat with a modeller.
Thank you.
Great to see and hear from you two again!
Thanks. It's good to be back.
Summer is always slow for modelers. Too busy outside :) Looking forward to what you do this winter.
Thank you.
This channel deserves so many more subscribers. going to make sure i give you a shout out next time i'm live.👍
I appreciate that!
Glad to see you back! I understand that it's difficult to document all of it on video!
Thanks. It's good to be back.
Very interesting update thanks, I got the same hedge trimmer last year and it’s loads better than using steps etc for trimming the hedges. The only problem I find it uncomfortable to hold. But loads better that trailing an extension lead and using steps.
Yes, it really is unwieldy.
Dad flew the real one: I built a toy of one. Yet you still dont get the irony....
I do get the irony. I didn't make the Thumbnail as that is out of my skills set.
My father Fl/lt McAdam DFC was pilot of Friday 13th, he cut the seat to make a pouch for his Lyer Dyce, I still have it.
Thanks for your video with personal connections to the diorama. My uncle also flew, mostly as an air gunner, in Wellingtons albeit an earlier version. His plane was shot down in 1941; he survived with two others, spent some time in a POW camp, but did not make it back. He served with the RCAF in 99 Squadron, Waterbeach.
I’d bought a blow-up Sherman shell for my 25yo son on a recent trip to Bovington from Australia. He was A LOT less excited than I was! 😊 All these videos you shoot of your husband are seriously entertaining. Clearly there’s something wrong with me…
No no no, it's me that's bonkers. There is a considerable cognitive dissonance in m,y psyche, the fascination with WW2 and making models of those times, versus the horror of war I feel now. I note that Bovington also sell a blow up panzerfaust .........
🤣😂
I'll repost ..... original reply somehow lost. I'm fairly sure it's me that's bonkers not you . I have been known to build non violent things like the odd car, even a wooden boat. But -- being born just after that war, parents served in it, the remains , the obsession remains . Bovington also do a blow up panzerfaust, something else to try to avoid buying.........🙂
Which wooden ship have you built? I’ve completed Billing Boats’ Cutty Sark, Artesania Latina’s Swift, Aeropiccola’s HMS Prince, Panart’s Royal Yacht Caroline and Caldercraft’s HMS Supply. Next is Corel’s HMS Victory.
Had a holiday in Brittany many years ago, and became fascinated by the remains of boats in some of the harbours, and the demi-coques (?) models to be found in some local shops .... that were too expensive at the time. So eventually found a kit (I think it was Billings) of a Bretton sloup. A completely new medium, took some learning, but it sits in my study still. Not built anything like it since though. And nowhere near as many as you. @@johnmarley6695
Looking very nice indeed. 👌🏼
Thanks 👍
40 years to build?
All explained in the video.
Wow what realistic model top job loads of detail
Thank you.
I think they did modify the kit. I dont recognise your early version decals? I built mine in 1988-9 when the choice was either Admiral Prune or S Sugar, which flew from Bottesford where I used to live as a kid, so obviously I chose that one. I still have the box and cover and think I still have the instructions also. It has that superb interlocking wingspar doesnt it, which enabled me to dismantle and pack away as I moved houses with work a lot from 1989-until very recently. Some of my tiny parts including a couple of wing lights are missing now..
I found that the bomb aimers blister was the early shallow type, this meant that the PO.S would be incorrect. So I decided to spray most of the markings by cutting out my own stencils so it became OLQ.
Very interesting video. Beautiful work
Thank you.
Cool story!
I bought a Heller Lockheed EC121 in 1980, Assembled and in primer, but still awaiting painting and decals.
Just come across your channel interesting and the conversations best of luck to the growth of this channel.
Thanks and welcome.
I find your model making very interesting, good luck with the operation
Thank you very much!
The finish looks quite good to my eye!
I often think the worst critic of any piece of work is the artist themselves.
Absolutely.
Looks very nice
Thanks for making this really nice and informative video. With reference to the toilet habits of bomber crews, I recently read 'Enemy Coast Ahead' by Guy Gibson. He mentioned that if a bomber piot was caught short, needing to pee, there was a funnel connected to a tube which fed outside the aircraft. However, if the ground crew didn't like the officer, they would sometimes tie a knot in the tube.
Had not heard that one!
Looking great! The gunsight particularly.
Thank you.
Looking good! Aftermarket decals? Which brand?
No, in the end I used one of the kit schemes , though I did have some left over from another Hurricane I built for someone years ago.
@@markgower7163 I really enjoy these. Keep ‘em going.
I'll be interested seeing how that bug turns out! Such an unique vehicle!
Just about the silliest car I ever owned, fun though.
Great choices! I’ve enjoyed every Kinetic kit I’ve made. I hear the Sea Harrier has issues but I’m sure you’ll overcome them.
Incredibly kit ..... massive amounts of detail.
Looks fantastic, you certainly have cracked on with the build
Interesting you mention the blue, as I read the same note just yesterday. Looking awesome!
Hope you enjoy it!
My gosh those are some tiny, tiny details. Very impressive how much tiny details you can cram into these models. As much as I can appreciate the small details, but when it comes to assembly... There is a limit where things get a bit too small, and I just simply leave them out for the sake of my own sanity :D
Every double bogie wheel set had eight springs, mounted in pairs, one vinside the other. I actually lost one inner spring to the carpet monster, but it does not really show.
Yeah, I’d quite happily build one of those!
Looks like a great kit, Looking forward to seeing all the little details you're goin to add to it!
Thanks 👍
Looks absolutely fantastic, you have brilliant building skills. Also very interesting story about Eric Brown and why you decide on your next build
Thank you very much!
