Completed my German exam this morning 🙏 thanks for this Mr burke, these tips came in really handy
Thank you 🙏
hi mr burke, my german teacher teaches us to speak german without any german accent except for the words that have german pronunciations, i.e, just speaking german with an irish accent. for the oral, can i speak it with a german accent or should i just stick to the irish one?
Fantastic teacher ,very articulate in explaining to understand
Hello Mr Burke, lovely informative video, I shall use these in the run up to my mocks/JC Exam! Vielen Dank!
Hello, could you please explain this, at 24:08, the 4th question, why it is not Plusquamperfekt as hatte is used? And for 5th question, why isn't it future tense as she's talking about the future and also the verb vergessen is in infinity?
Just did my mock oral and your videos have helped me so much
thank you so much!!
An,auf,hinter,in...usw Akk oder Dat? Two way prep
Do you do lessons for adults? I did German in my LC in 07 and I work a lot with German speakers so I'd like to improve my spoken German. Your videos have been great as I've been going over JC German again
Thanks very much for the needed help
Not at all, hope you found it useful.
This really helped with my JC exam thanks
Glad it helped!
Just want to thank you, Mr. Burke, for all the effort you put into these videos. They clarify concepts in ways that make a lot of sense.
on my mock letter, the examiner wrote the letters 'op' with a number beside it, what does op mean? I know c and e are content and expression
This is short for “Opening” and means Introduction. You can get a maximum of two content marks for the Opening and two for the Closing. I give a model Opening and Closing in my video.
Thank you, this helped 1 day before the leaving cert!!
Ah that’s great, all the best in the exam. Beware of Genitive case questions!
you're a lifesavers, all your videos are so helpful
just in time for the exam tomorrow, H1 here we come.
This is Very helpful thank you so much
Great you find it useful!
@@themrburkechannel just want to say a massive thank you because I used so much of your advice during the exam and your videos absolutely carried me through it! Your channel is a great resource and you're not uploading in vain, it is genuinely very helpful stuff. Thanks a million Mr Burke!
So glad to hear. I hope you get a great result in August!
What do the plus points in the margin mean?
A nice use of language (generally an idiom or turn of phrase) that will help you get a better expression mark.
Is the letter reccomended over the picture question
It's your choice really, picture tends to more focused on one general theme/topic than the letter. Choose whichever you feel you can best answer.

Hello sir. Thanks for the videos, I've found them very helpful especially for my oral. I wanted to ask for some advice. I did very well on my oral earlier in the year thanks to your older video and actually studying and practicing for it. I believe at the very worst I scored 15 out of 25 percent and that's at worst (I believe I've done better) despite that my leaving cert German exam is next week and honestly I'm not prepared. I've never been good at languages so I've been lazy in preparing and now when practicing questions I relaize I'm very far behind. I can't get the reading comp right my listening is unprepared for and I don't even know if I can understand most of the questions on the letter. I know your unfamiliar with me, but I was wondering how likely would a weak student be able to just pass the exam. I've practiced the ordinary level reading comprehension and consistently score over 80 percent. I'm unsure if I should drop down or try my best to score 15 percent out of the 75 on the exam that I would need to pass . Any advice?
As a general rule, I would not advise students to drop down, especially at this stage. It sounds like you have a good foundation, if you did well in your oral exam. Focus on where you can pick up marks - sometimes the grammar section is quite easy to do well in, or if you are doing the second option, you can pick up good marks from describing the picture simply (see my video on Ausserung zum Thema). Finally, revise everything in your oral handbook - you might be able to use some of these sentences in the letter. Lastly, if you think you know the general gist of the text you pick (Option 1 or 2), make your answers as long as possible in the English questions - this increases your chances of getting marks. Hope this helps - you might do a lot better than just pass.
This is phenomenal thank you
Vielen Dank! Could you please go through the Schriftlicke Produktion if you get a chance?
I can’t promise anything but I will definitely keep it In mind!
Thank u 🤍
helps for 5th years also nice video
Swich your name
thanks this video was very helpful
Very helpful tips thanks for sharing💌
German tomorrow feel a bit more confident now
Wunderbar Jack. Viel Erfolg!
For the oral marking scheme for the general conversation I knows its split into four section but for example if you are put into the 26-33 mark range can it only be either 26 or 33 or any number inbetween including 26 and 33
Hope I'm not too late answering this. You can be marked any number. If you're aiming to get above 26, make sure that you can speak well in the Past Tense (Ich bin im Übergangsjahr nach Deutschland gefahren, ich habe Checkpoint Charlie gesehen und ich habe Currywurst gegessen). And, above all, be accurate. More accuracy and flair = more marks.
@@themrburkechannel Perfectt I had my oral yesterday gave a nice long and accurate answer for past tense so should expect higher than 26 hopefully should get H2 in oral thanks for the good news :)
I’m doing my project on Beethoven as well!
Wunderbar Shauna! Viel Erfolg - I'm sure you're well prepared.
Had my oral yesterday and I was well prepared thanks to your notes. Thanks a lot!
did you do the rollenspeil?
@@co3962 yes I just used the notes my teacher gave for the Rollenspiel. I got rollenspiel 4- Einladung zum Festival
@@mariocreed7110 i’m literally reading my notes as i’m typing this 😭, none of it is going in my head and my oral is on wednesday ffs
@@co3962 I’d recommend to master the role plays and your project (or bildergeschichte) as they are guaranteed to come up
Could you please do more grammar? Your first video was really helpful for my mock
Hi Shane. Yes, which video are you referring to here - Oral 1? Also, what parts of grammar do you find most challenging? I already have a video on cases (and answers to past Angewandte Grammatik questions) which you can find here ruclips.net/video/ZXYH1dMV9Mk/видео.html
Hi Mr.Burke I was referring to the "A Guide to German Cases (Leaving Cert)" video and the Angewandte Grammatik in general. I'm having difficulties with the tenses in particular. Thanks!
@@shanecurran3357 No problem. I will keep that in mind and reply here if I create content on tenses. There is a free worksheet on my website which shows all 5 German tenses - you might find this useful in the meantime: go.handouts.ie/free

Glad you find them useful. Feel free to suggest anything you’d like to see on the channel!
Mr burke, for the oral with no Projekt does one have to learn 3 rollenspiel and 3 picture sequences? Or just 3 of one? Thank you
You have to learn 3 Roleplays and 3 Picture Stories. My new video on Roleplays and Picture Stories with 10 Tips is out now - you might find it helpful.
