I disagree . Help keep trail running fr$$ and enjoyable.
What do you disagree with exactly? Our pint regarding fun is that content used to be more fun and now it’s less fun. And we also think there’s an opportunity to do some really cool content on Thanksgiving day like NFL.
Great convo.
🙏
Definitely love a 1% the guys at speedland have been fantastic from the beginning very engaging and supportive even to a average runner like me!
Agreed. It’s obvious that they have a genuine love for the industry and their customers.
Josh, Taylor, great conversation. Just wanted to bring up that the 005 midsole is Arnitel ( not Pebax ). It brings a lot more stability while having the lightness and rebound you need on race day. Looking forward to your '' ON TRAILS '' review of the 005 Taylor. Love that you touched on the 003 and being able to run in them. 🙏🏼
Thank you for the correction. The 005 looks stunning. Norda is a special brand.
Norda are from Montreal in the Quebec province. 😊
🙏🙌
Great pod
🙏
Another really interesting pod!
🙏. Thank you.
The video and introduction to the race were outstanding. Count me in!
Thank you! You won’t regret it.
Meant to also mention- GREAT podcast as usual. Huge fan, love the authenticity!
THANK YOU!
I know many brands ( won't mention by name,) that have ambassador programs that basically just sell you a discounted running kit, and maybe a one-off cheap hat with an ambassador badge of some sort, for a fee that still just makes them money and gets free advertising by you, from wearing their gear. The caveat- they also want you to engage on socials and rep their gear. All for that like 20% or less discount on some gear? It's a marketing scam IMO. But also, there are some brands that do it correct and those are much harder to just "become an ambassador." There is generally huge disconnect between running product companies and its general consumer that wants to be an ambassador. This also spins into other sports like pickleball. EVERYONE is an ambassador with a 10$ off code, lol. Just buy what you support and keep it easy. :)
Ha. It’s more complicated than the brands make it sound. And if they’re not careful they’ll lose as many fans as they make.
haha, thanks for the mention! I don't think Adidas is doing itself a favor with Adidas Terrex. From my understanding Terrex is a bit autonomous in what they do, but even though they have a great and succesful athlete roster, they fail to be really recognized as a trail running brand.
Thanks, Nico! I agree. If they gave TERREX more attention I think it could be really special.
Incredibly well done. Running this in 2 days and was looking for some recon on the race. Stumbled upon a biographical TED talk. Awesome work brotha 👊🏽
I couldn’t be more pumped for this comment. Thank you. Good luck.
Heartfelt songs!
🎉🎉🎉
Great video Josh! I was there in July for the 50 miler and had to bag it at mile 38. Hoping to try again next year and see if I learned my lessons!
Amazing. Good luck!
When looking at these expensive 200 milers that are golden tocket or lottery draw, I feel like I am very disinterested. There are so many multi day races globally that offer entry for desire and the fact you can pay. I would rather spend the duckets doing something seemingly more epic.
200 milers that are lottery draws are pretty crazy. So many people wanting in. But you’re right, there are plenty of fish in the sea.
Great episode Josh and Taylor!!! Taylor- I wear 10.5 in speedgoat 5's but I feel I need an 11 due to toes getting close to end. For the Mafate speed 4, would you suggest sizing is similar? I'm debating getting an 11 in that, but I don't have anywhere locally to try them on. Keep up the great work Josh!!!!!
I will make sure Taylor sees this! Thank you for your compliments. I love doing these episodes with Taylor.
Hey! Lengthwise, the speedgoat and mafate speed are very similar. The forefoot is broader in the mafate speed 4.
@@borderlandstr Appreciate you! Huge fan of these authentic discussions/ interviews.
@@tjbodin Thank you so much! I've been wearing Speedboat 5s for some time and realized that I don't have the space I need in the toe although they are comfortable. I have my first 50k coming up in January and I want to make sure I get the right size in Mafate speed 4. I'll go up half a size. All the best!
Awesome! I feel like Hoka have become my go to brand! Definitely prefer the tecton x2 over the 3. Looking forward to the next one! 👌🏻🔥
It’s super impressive that they are scaling so well. They continue to bring in new customers and somehow still make new customers happy.
@ the full range of Hoka probably offers something for everyone, which some other major brands can’t offer. The only problem I find is getting the right size. It’s not a uniformed as a Nike/Adidas for me.
@@inkysteve1983 That makes sense. Inconsistency like that is certainly a scale issue.
Fantastic pod! Love hoka and it’s great to hear the back story. When I started getting into endurance (2018ish), here in Europe hoka was mega underground. I remember one day seeing a dude at my local lake with some (I think Mafate or Stinson on) and was so baffled by that crazy stack height and chunky!
I still think of them as 'underground' to some degree. I think that's a triumph of their smart branding. They're enormous but the remain grassroots in my mind somehow.
Great job. You killed it. I’m an ultra runner as well. I’m sure you have inspired many
Thank you! Really appreciate that.
I didn't expect this short video to inspire me as much as it did. Thank you!
It's a special place for sure!
Awesome video! Possibly one of the best videos promoting a race I’ve seen
Thank you! It’s a beautiful race and great organization.
Thank you for sharing! Beautiful video. I attempted my first 50 miler last year at Devils Gulch and got some unfinished business out there for 2025!! This video inspired me to get back out there.
That's awesome. Maybe I'll see you there if I can make it back!
I wonder why they went with Michelen over Vibram or anything else? Michelen is shutting plants and moving to Mexico especially the one in my home town so not really comfortable supporting them.
That's too bad. Where are they shutting down plants?
@ for sure Ardmore Oklahoma they built a huge facility in Mexico
Great insight to the Javelina Jundred race, Josh. I streamed a lot of it live last weekend and seems like a great time!
It looks like a great party!
The TNF trail line it's completely underrated and i love it 😎 Here (in France) it's like I having the "rebel and outsider pairs of shoes", i run with the in Les Alpes and a was the only one to use the Enduris 3 ❤ Love the brand, the aesthetic, the quality and durability of them. 400km + in the Vectiv Infinite 2 and 400 + in the Enduris 💪 looking forward for the Offtrail series 🎉
Amazing! That Offtrail shoe is something special.
@borderlandstr I will try to find it in the store before command. I like "feel the shoe" 😏 Yes and like you said, they look special 🤘
Could be great to have Taylor talk about more "boutique" brands like Norda, Speedland, 4T2, etc.
We are almost through the big brands we wanted to do and then we’ll move into the micro brands!
2 of the best dudes in the running world! Love this! 👌🏻
Flattery will get you everywhere. Thanks!
I want a pair of the gs:oak
They look so good!
Why is the audio so choppy? Satisfy is too brandish over substance.
Oh no! Sorry about that. I wonder if it’s choppy on Apple or Spotify as well. Yeah, I agree - it’s more lifestyle than product. They’ve built a community of people where many don’t actually even wear satisfy.
I've thought about buying Satisfy but just can't pull the trigger. Their new fleece is nice but again very pricey when I can buy a Senchi Designs for $85.
Yes, satisfy will never win on value. Purely a premium play.
If you have to ask who it is for then it’s not for you… …and you should spend more time letting others enjoy things they like rather than throwing shade. (Yes he was throwing shade!)
Ha. I hear you. Perhaps also if you have to say ‘I’m not throwing shade’ then you are probably throwing shade. Few brands in any industry have got people talking like Satisfy. I love it.
Good experience so far with their thermal running pants . Also I have a running trail top with holes in the chest and the back and it’s not only trendy for wearing it for going out but does an excellent job while running in hot weather
I think they do a great job with form AND function.
Dean K. Is now on Speedland team
Wow. I had no idea! Thanks for sharing.
@@borderlandstr sure! Only knew because the store I worked out we sold Speedlands and I did research on their athletes prior to bringing them in.
Enjoyed the conversation. I currently live in Lubbock. Was fun to hear your perspective. You should come back for a visit! Long way to go, but a lot has certainly changed in more recent years. Definitely a vibrant running community, art/music scene, and phenomenal coffee here now. Enjoy your stuff. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! My mom and brothers are still there. I really miss it right now. I love to hear about the running community! Had no idea.
Love the podcasts! Please never stop the amazing content & guests. FYI…Scott Jurek won Western States 7 consecutive years. Actually the same 7 years Lance “won” the Tour.
Thank you! That’s a fascinating stat/comparison btw. Thanks for sharing.
I'm glad they (and some other brands) have a few heritage shoes. I like being able to get any years model of Ghost, etc, and know it's going to work .
Fair point. Predictability, consistency, and stability are great qualities.
@@borderlandstr I love the innovation too- new shoes are exciting and all the R&D is fascinating. I think of it like cars- concept cars and high end luxury and sports cars are really cool and fun, and I'm glad car companies do that stuff! But I'm also glad they always have basic rides like Civics, Corollas, etc.
Not a fan of Brooks at and and was happy to say they were our least sold running shoes for years over other brands when I was in running specialty for the last several years. Cushion is just starting to be in their vocabulary. The Glycrine Max is their only real cushioned shoe and that was modeled off of the Aurora BL. The Ghost Max should have been a softer under foot feel. The sale prototype were. When the production model came out it was a much denser feel. The new Ghost Max 2 is a rock! I personally feel they are the most pushed shoe in run specialty other than Hoka now a days. Not sure why considering so many other brands surpass Brooks. As everything it’s a word of mouth and marketing that drive most of those sales.
I really can’t believe how many Brooks are on the shelves at running stores. Impressive accomplishment on their end. How do they do it? Is it like grocery? Do the big players buy shelf space?
@@borderlandstr I think marketing plays a big role. Brooks does an excellent job of marketing to a general fitness audience. Their ads depict running as a fun, playful, inclusive space. Other brands' ads seem to deliberately appeal to more serious, dedicated runners, and that's great, but we are a very small part of the market.
👏👏👏👏👏
🎉🙌🙌
This races are for young people😅😅 whatever the future of trail running is to be on the screens
Haha.
Great video video so true where I run in northeast Georgia and the mountains. I usually running through probably 4 to 5 stream crossings some quite deep and a lot of wetlands and matter fact I bought this pair of Solomon shoes that I loved, but they weren’t drainable at all and I sent them to a friend of mine out in Colorado sit here here’s a gift can’t use them and he loves them, like I said, I haven’t been out that much but it’s a whole different world. We have a it’s not fall and how bad it’s gonna hurt.
Running in the west we don’t fully appreciate shoes that drain.
great race, great people, loved it.
I agree. Such a good weekend.
Excuse me. Did you say Candy Day? What?
Yes I did. Once week they flood the candy stores with these bins and just eat candy.
@@borderlandstr Holy smokes! Yet another reason to run SORMLANDS 100. The list reasons just keeps growing. 🤣🤣😍😍😍
Many people that started trail running in the late 2000s started because of "Born to Run."
Yes! Me included! I had the author in my podcast earlier this year. Wonderful book.
Good job! "Bra Jobbat!"
🙌
Awesome film. Really captured the feel of sörmlands100. Cool that you got a clip of me at 2:13 where i threw in the towel of my 100 miles race due to a "broken" foot. My first DNF. I have run sörmlands100 every year since the start and will be back again next year for sure.
Was that you laying on the ground? Great effort. Thanks for watching and good luck at your next one.
@@borderlandstr thanks, yeah that was me :)
How much drop do you like?
My current shoes are 4mm I believe. I’m happy with it. Overall I don’t really have a strong preference.
just a suggestion, the interviewer doesn't always need to interject sounds like yea, cool, when the person is being interviewed is talking
Thanks for the feedback. Curiously, why is this bothersome?
Unfortunately for Camille, this scandal is shedding light on her history of unsportsmanlike behavior… and her deleted instagram post addressing the situation is really the cherry on top.
Yeah. I agree. It’s unfortunate.
It is sad because who is really going to Wiki for this stuff.
Agreed. Sometimes people just get caught up in something they think is more important than it really is.
Tarahumara Indians in the Mexico borderlands kick a small ball/ object while running trails..
