Can the Trail Running Industry Afford to Sponsor Athletes?
Просмотров 23719 часов назад
Today on Bad Runners Take I look at the athlete sponsorship model within trail running and ask if it’s sustainable. Why? Because I love the elite version of this sport more than most and want to contribute to the critical assessment of where it is in hopes of getting to contribute to the critical assessment of where it’s going. Unlikely. VKTRY Insoles - I wear these everyday VKTRY.com/borderlan...

PATH Projects is a trail running staple with co-founders Scott and Brian
Просмотров 4,7 тыс.21 день назад
PATH Projects started in 2017 to solve a problem: running shorts. They were mostly designed by shoe companies who are looking to increase average transaction sizes when runners are buying shoes. In this episode we explore Scott Bailey and Brian Rather's history as founders of @pathprojects. Scott start SPLIT, Kr3w, and Supra Footwear. Brian started a denim company acquired by Huckberry and went...

the Cocodona 250 Course History with Joe Corcione
I’ll be running in a 24 hour event next month. I completed two 50k’s this past year…next month’s event is my bucket list attempt at running 50 miles at 60 years of age. Maybe further. Your podcast has been extremely helpful in my preparation…especially mentally. Things like “don’t put quit in the pantry” or enlarging the pain cave each time I visit, ala Courtney D. Your show makes a difference…thought you should know. 👍🏼
That’s amazing. Thank you for sharing. I’m super inspired to hear you going for a bucket list distance of 50 miles at the age of 60! Good luck.
Nice to see you up running. That was beautiful scenery.
Thank you. It’s stunning. And awesome to be back running.
It's a display of power of what???🤦♂️🤦♀️🤦 Qué ridiculez más grande....
It’s the changing of the guard at the Pakistan India border.
I was an engineer, not an elite athlete; however, out of the gate, I made tons more money. Not ever famous but of more value to society.
Makes sense to me!
This guys are lost
🏃♂️🏃♂️🕺
It's the border between India and Pakistan, I believe. It's a display of power between the two countries. Relations are quite tense because they can't agree on the border in the region of Kashmir. Those guys you see... they aren't kidding. It's a bit like the parallel 38 dividing the korean pesinsula.
Yes. It’s the ceremonial changing of the guard at the Wagah border crossing.
According to Wikipedia this is a display of rivalry and brotherhood and cooperation.
What the sorcery is this??
Haha. It’s that changing of the guard at the Pakistan Indian border. Very metal.
CharDee MacDenis 2: Electric Boogaloo
Haha this needs way more views 😅
💯💃🕺🏃♂️
This is on the bucket list. Hope to run it 2025
Good luck!
Race the Cog. Runs the same day as WSER
Where is that one?!
Hellbender is awesome. It is a great challenge for a Flatlander. Richard and I spent a lot of hours together. It was a pleasure spending a few hours with Troy too. This is the only race that I honestly want to run every year. When you come home from a race with two different call signs, something is special. "Detroit" and "Yellow Jacket Guy." I'm also running the ticket for Snott Otter 100. 😅😂
This is high praise for the Hellbender. I’m stoked to learn of everyone’s excitement for it.
I paced my buddy the last 33 miles. Beautiful views good climbing and exhilarating descents. This year the weather was all over the place lol.
This race just sounds like a beast even in good weather. Ha
Hellbender is a future classic. It’s a stunning course with really challenging sections that keep throwing punches. I’ll be back again next year for sure
Wow. Inspired by that statement. I will credit you when I say it ‘a future classic’.
Great interview and insight on Path Projects, which quickly became one of my favorite brands. The Sykes PX & AT classic fit 5 inch shorts are indefatigable on the trails and unbeatable on the streets! Appreciate the content Josh!
High praise. Thank you!
Great interview. Many people may have wanted more of a focus on running, but I appreciated the focus on the business and, ahem, path that brought them here.
@@nicholastolson1699 ha. Good feedback. I get so excited about the business side that it didn’t even cross my mind!
Matt is the man! He is my coach. Humble, hilarious, witty but a great person.
I agree! Great guy all around.
Hey Josh, I'm the random guy who said hi about 10 minutes before the race started on Saturday! Dang it... DNF'd the 50-mile, started to fade when it got hot and then slowed down so much that I couldn't carry enough water between aid stations. Got weak & super crampy and bailed at mile 38. Bummer but it was still probably my funnest race in terms of hanging out with other runners along the way. In hindsight (for my ability level) if I would've strategized for 18-20hrs instead of 14-16 I think it would have gone better, but now at least I have a more realistic idea of how the heat can mess with your plans. Thanks for the interview!
Nice to meet you that day! That’s a hard race but among the more special ultra communities I’ve seen. Are you going to try that race again?
@@borderlandstr You too! Yeah I might have to do a little forgetting first 😂but I could see doing it again after I get a better handle on surviving in the heat.
Thanks for the interview! I ran the 100 miler last year and it was a beast, really kicking my butt. The course/trail wasn't too bad and there were lot of runnable sections but the heat was unbearable...and the distance between aid stations were too long for a 100 miler. The first 50 miles (two loop course) only had 3 fully stocked aid stations (and two water drops) so that means only 6 total aid stations for 100 miles. Probably too few for non-elite "weekend warriors" who seek challenging but also enjoyable experience/race. The race allowed runners to drop to 50M (from 100M sign up) so that's what I did. Beautiful scenery though!
Hey! Thanks for the comment. I think they increased the number of aid stations this year. I really loved being at the start line this year. It’s such a beautiful setting.
Doing a 24hr race and hoping to hit a hundred, even if it's after the timing mat turns off
Hell yeah! Good luck.
First exposure to this enjoyable interviewer and immensely look forward to hearing from Tim and his world!
Thank you! Super kind.
Great episode! Makes me want to run the Tour de Tomo in Tokyo!
I’ll join you!
Zero hesitation. That’s where I’m tryna be
Great observation.
Great episode with Tomo! He pushed me to keep going at Wasatch last year. On the climb out of brighton to catherines pass, i was throwing up everywhere, death marching and he had such a bright spirit and energy as he and his pacer passed me they encouraged me and we had some good banter and conversation during. I tried to hang on to them but he moved so swiftly 😅 anyways. Glad to see him on the pod! What a legend!
Wow. Love hearing this. Didn’t think sure my opinion of Tomo could get any better but this did it!
Love the brand hate the quality, worse than cheap clothes it’s beyond offensive
What do you mean? Are you saying the brand and the actual clothing aren’t aligned?
@@borderlandstr yes, I have a jacket, two shorts, and two bandanas. With nothing but handwashing the seams broke and when asked for a replacement they were rude and didn’t replace any, never been as disappointed from price and quality disconnect
@@tobias3581 thanks for the info... was thinking of getting some but

What do you think about luxury in trail running?
Even as an Anglican priest - who follows this sport, especially on the 3rd Saturday of June - I find this hilarious.
Haha. Thank you for seeing the levity.
wow...wow... mantap keren banget🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
🙌
I love these interviews and hearing runners perspectives on the sport and various races. It's what makes the sport so attractive. The people and places. Such an under rated channel, I hope it continues to grow. For anyone seeking an affordable 100 miler check out the crooked creek 100 in KY. $160 and currently 14 signed up for the 100 distance.
Thank you! Thats an impressive price. I will definitely check it out. Thanks for putting it on my radar and thanks for the nice comments.
I attempted and completed my first 100 miler four weeks ago. I had previously completed three 100k races. I credit my strength training that got me to the finish line of 100 miles. I worked really hard in the gym. All the upper back work paid off too cause my pack all those hours never bothered me. My crew was amazing. Best of luck!
Smart. That upper back late-race pain can be anywhere from annoying to race-ending.
Great work guys! The community thanks you.
🙌 thanks man!
Have you reached out to Michael Bolton’s people to get him involved next year? Starting gun by Michael Bolton? The Michael Bolton aid station, featuring Michael Bolton?
These values, this romanticism, this way of being in the world are why I love Satisfy and have followed Bryce Partouche's work since April 77. Long may you both sail.
Amazing. I need to meant more about April 77. Thank you.
Loving this interview style content you're doing as well as the real footage of your race experiences. It is really inspiring to me as I'm trying my 1st 100 miler this December. Bri seems so cool and bubbly. I bet it was a sight to see her projectile vomit lol.
Ha. I bet you’re right! And thank you. Good luck at your 100 miler.
Excellent race recap and insight into the race. I really enjoyed the last 10 minute topic discussions too Thank you
I had to go back and listen to be reminded of what we talked about. Yes, I loved that rabbit trail too. Thank you!
nice job

that was so good to watch bro!!!
Glad you enjoyed

Absolutely my pleasure.
Love this clarity and the true understanding of trail running. I’d go out hammer a race be in the top spots and then fall apart. I’m now content of just going out and enjoying the run and meeting new people and all the support.
Me too. Thank you!!
Loved this! Crying at the end! Congratulations!!
THANKS!
