The words are coming from your mouth to the congregation, so it's obvious who is being taught... the listener! They know "we" means "you". "We" can feel insulting, like when a nurse says, "how are we doing?", when you are the one in labor pain. 😅

Actually first you need to show the passages are in fact true. Was there a noah? Was there a global flood, etc. otherwise, interesting if derivative story.
Isn’t that somewhat implied by saying that the same God who gave grace to Miriam is able to give grace to contemporary Seattlites? That only works if there was an actual Miriam who benefited from the grace of Gospel back then and there- which is parallel to our need here and now.
yes, it applies to all of it. If the bible cannot be shown to be actual events, then it is pointless to reference for this sort of thing. if you are just going with philosophy then fine, but the point can be made then without any biblical reference.@@mikeneglia5089

Oh - you're ahead of the rest then! Check out Dr Koessler's book on preaching: "Folly, Grace and Power"
Preparation is key. Knowing what you are talking about. And being right. You get what you put into it. Anointing only happens when you are prepared.
Occasionally God will anoint an unprepared preacher - but generally I agree with you. The work that is done beforehand is crucial to the success of a sermon

So Good I'm a Jon Tyson groupie Ever since I discovered him while doing the Art of Teaching I have chased his sermons. I have not found anyone I identify with more. This has been so helpful in solidifying why this is. His is a similar theological and spiritual journey (I am not a Pastor and have not had much opportunity to preach) explains why his vision for mission today is what inspires me. This is so encouraging.
I'm so glad you found this episode - there is another episode of this podcast called "mentorship exemplified" where Jon talks about one of the formative voices that has shaped him to be the preacher that he is today. I think you'll like that one too
