    Florence nightingale saved my 2x great grandfathers life in the Crimea War. He was shot in the face and leg in 1855 and was in the Scutari field hospital before being taken to England for the rest of his medical treatment and recovery. He was pensioned from injuries in 1856. Florence nightingale demanded the soldiers had good, nutritious food too. My 2x great grandfather was Irish and had survived the potato famine but still didn’t have an abundance of good food available. She also demanded two separate hospitals in Crimea….so they could separate injured soldiers from cholera patients. The death toll reduced significantly because of her. The injured soldiers were in mud, blood, filth, rotting corpses of horses and humans surrounded the injured on the battlefield so the chance of disease was higher. I will always be grateful to the lady with the lamp

      Cool that she saved your 2x great-grandfather. Without a doubt, she did so much good for the people and the future of healthcare. Her history is filled with interesting nuances, and that's why I have made several episodes on her life, and have more in the pipeline.

      Depending on how your autism affects you, I do understand. People being afraid of having the diagnosis. That is one of the reasons I worked for some years in a project that helped people with autism to see it as a strength rather than anything else. We did it in 3 steps: 1. You are not an autistic person; you are a person with autism. 2. Finding strengths and weaknesses 3. Setting goals for personal development And it sounds so easy when I put it like that, but it was actually quite the work for the team and the individual person.

      I think you misunderstand what holistic care in nursing is. Holistic nursing care is an approach to patient care that takes into account the physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs of the patient. Providing holistic care has been found to be an effective way to prevent disease and death, as well as improve the quality of healthcare provided to patients. I'm not talking about any alternative treatment. I would never indulge in the practice of diluting medicine; it's against everything I have been taught and am teaching.

    • @Prison45
      @Prison45 2 месяца назад

      @TheDanishMaleNurse then why is holistic medicine part of being a holistic nurse? My issue is the use of invalid techniques and so called medicines , the use of some valid techniques Does not validate the entire field .

      I agree, but I also disagree, because only by treating everyone differently can we treat everyone equally. I have an upcoming episode about it where I go into more detail about how we can do that, but basically, it's about tailoring care to the individual.

    *Like they say- "Everything all goes back to the parenting". A belief, by definition, is not scientifically provable. Any scientist who does not know what the cause of schizophrenia is, does not rule out any possibilities. It is then extremely safe to say that medical doctors do employ the scientific method with respect to how they assess and treat their patients. That's why medicine has absolutely no cures for anything and never will.*

    • @TheDanishMaleNurse
      @TheDanishMaleNurse 8 месяцев назад

      Hey there! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. You make a good point about the complexity of mental health conditions like schizophrenia. While beliefs may not always align with scientific proof, it's crucial to approach treatment with an evidence-based mindset. Medicine continually evolves, seeking better treatments and understanding.

    As a Canadian, I can say that we have public health care, but it's rationed, people die on waiting lists to see specialists or to get treatment. Canadians who can afford it will cross the border for access to health care.

      Thanks for sharing your insights, we do have the same problem in Denmark just in less severe cases, but still, the waiting lists are too long on non life threatening cases. But the problem is not money but a lack of nurses and doctors to do the job.

    I'm curious if the education required to become a nurse in Denmark costs as much as in the USA. Many of the nurses I talked to here in the USA discouraged me from going into nursing when I was single because you can't pay the student loans on what you earn in the job alone.

    • @TheDanishMaleNurse
      @TheDanishMaleNurse 9 месяцев назад

      In Denmark, the education is paid for by the state. Furthermore, we have a national education grant that is given as long as the student does not earn too much from their job, so in essence, it is way cheaper to become a nurse in Denmark.

    • @chandrasunny
      @chandrasunny 9 месяцев назад

      @TheDanishMaleNurse so in that case a Danish nurse makes a much better living than one in the USA that was also trained here.
