Step-by-step Morserino-32 Build
Building the gizmo by following the developers instructions & then checking it out! My washer/nut assembly of the antenna mount wandered off from his instructions and is non-standard. Hope you find this helpful. 73, R.

Connecting the MFJ-464 CW Keyer/Reader to the ICOM IC-7300 tranceiver.
Просмотров 24 тыс.4 года назад
This is a brief tutorial covering the wire connections necessary to use these devices together. It is important to note that whether you are using paddles or a straight key, the MFJ-464 will output the signal as if it is coming from a straight key. For this reason you will need to configure the IC-7300 to expect a key. These steps are nicely outlined in this document from DXEngineering: static....

I loved your video so much, I had provided the kit to a family member and had them follow your video to build it. Thank you for instilling the confidence with newbees that have not soldered or assembled anything like this before. There were a couple items that I could nit picked about, but you did such a darn good job overall, I wont dare nit pick. Thank you so much for the time and detail you put into this video. Again, serious kudos to you ! Thnak you !

I made the 1/4” to RCA out of spare parts. I made a short video of the wiring that is linked in the description. 73

Hi Rose - thanks so much for the great video. I followed along your video as well as the Morserino instruction sheet, and found I needed the video more than I expected. You did a great job. I am building mine for an article in the QRZ series, "Trials and Errors -- Ham Life with an Amateur." I'll make sure and steer my readers to your vid for their own builds. Thanks! Dave, W7DGJ

It's kind of bothersome that noone sells a mono RCA to stereo adapter with the ground and the tip connected to the mono side. I almost tried to look you up RoseBag - so I could e-mail you to find out about where you got that RCA connector. But then I read your description at the top - and "oh crap, that's what I was afraid of". One other idea I had to address this cable issue - to avoid having to do something in the connector area itself, I just went on Amazon and for about $20 I was able to buy a bare wire open end pigtail (RCA), and also a bare wire open end 1/8" stereo connector). So I can solder the RCA center wire to stereo tip, and the ground wire to ground, and just cut off the remaining wire on the stereo end (that goes to the ring contact of the stereo plug)... Then seal it up with heat shrink where the wires are joined in the middle... No connector work necessary and wire to wire soldering is easy. This is not as fragile a process or in any way difficult. One other thing I did similar to this (seemed janky at the time but was easier than alternatives). I tried to open an aux cable up to wire the key side for my MFJ-557 straight key oscillator terminals, and the wires were about the same thickness as human hair, so that was a bust. I then decided to just take aother intact aux cable and just solder one wire direct to the tip, and one wire to the ground (skipping the ring contact area of the stero plug) - being sure to tin both the connector and wire first so they soldered easily. Then I put heat shrink over the solider joint on the connector to seal it up and give it some extra strength. Had to take care of course soldering the ground portion to the wire so it didn't cross over to the ring contact of the stereo connector. Not pretty, but all those sins are covered up in heat shrink and after I soldered it, it survived the pull test, so it worked well enough for my purposes. All its doing is conducting electricity in a simple circuit. Open/closed. So it didn't have to be a work of art. Another idea I think works is take one of those dual RCA plugs that goes to a single stereo plug, and just cut the one off (or cover it in tape) that is wired to the ring part of the stereo plug. Use the one that's tip/ground (usually that one will be red). and that's just as easy as making a new cable.

Rose, thank you the great video. You are very lucky that the connector for that battery didn't match. The lipo you have is a 2s (2series) lipo which would have pushed twice the expected voltage into your device 7.4v. The instructions specify a 1s (single cell) lipo which would only provide 3.7v. you likely would have burned it up with that battery.

A tip to soldering in components like that switch that you're having a hard time getting flush is to solder one leg, and then after it's in place hold the board while pressing against the component with one hand, while you use the other hand to reflow the joint. When you feel the component push into place, remove the soldering iron, keep squeezing for a couple of seconds until the joint has cooled and then let go.

Thanks for that. I have a question if you have time? I have made a box that parallels all my straight keys and paddles so it comes out as TRS jack. If so, could you send me a link? I'm also having problems locating a USB-A to micro USB cable. I'm housebond due to health issues, Can you help
