Early Fall Honeybee Swarm Part 2

Figuring out where this honeybee swarm is going? Hoping to catch them!
Early Fall Honeybee Swarm Part 1

Hive throws 2 swarms in early fall 2019! One swarm goes to vacant Lang hive & one goes tree limb, which I install in vacant Warre Hive.

This swarm trap works & can be built for less than $5 bucks! The top bars used in it fit a Warre beehive and can easily be attached with plastic cable tie wraps to a Langstroth frame and work in that hive as well! I run both types of hives. These are easily built, don't spend a fortune on swarm traps......beekeeping does not have to break the bank!

1/6/2019 & 60 degrees bees bringing in pollen!
Просмотров 3195 лет назад
Much to my surprise some bees were bringing in real pollen today; 1/6/2019 as I gave them pollen substitute on The Apimaye Hive! They are not touching 3 to 1 sugar water but taking some dry sugar in hive top feeders. Crazy warm weather!

    I can't tell if this video is satire or serious? You spend 2 hours searching for the cheapest... You're worried about saving $10 on hydraulic oil? You should've gotten the mil spec Napa SAE 90 mineral gear oil API GL-1 part #65-205 cost $87 and it's what you're supposed to use on these old Ford N tractors. You already said the pump is the weak link on the tractor so why cheap out? Look at any tractor forum. I never understood why people try to skimp on their equipment maintenance... never made any sense to me.. you get what you paid for... why not save the $40 dollars and just put water in there instead!! Hahaha

    It's not a rumor that bees prefer a larger volume, it's proven in research by the USDA that bees have a preference for volumes between 8 and 16 gallons. But then bees nest in all sorts of weird places. A five gallon bucket is really easy to put up.

    Were you aware by using essential oils you completely destroy the entire "Unseen" eco system in the hive that helps the bees in way we have no idea. Just trying to share some light on beekeeping.

    • @harvsnaturalhoney5837
      @harvsnaturalhoney5837 3 года назад

      I have lost many colonies by not treating for mites and small hive beetles, I have chosen to save my colonies by using essential oils only when needed and not chemical treatment which resides in the wax and honey. Our bees have no natural defence as of yet to these pest and few will survive without some type of intervention from the beekeeper. In the wild they will swarm and brood break which helps. I have done that as well. Failure to do anything will result in high losses of bees. That has been my experience but do what works for you. All beekeeping is not the same and it constantly changes. I started with all Langstoths 10 yrs ago and now running 50% Warre which are healthier hives requiring less treatment and intervention. My plans are to convert to 100% Warre beehives in 2021.I encourage you to look into The Warre method of beekeeping . Happy Beekeeping!

    Only if needed. I have started treatment just the other day as I saw some mites on my bottom board. Treat every 21 days to help break the mite cycle. It’s important to do this in fall so your winter bees are as mite free as possible going into winter.

    From Yesterdaystractors.com written by Bruce, "75 tips for Ford 8N owners" 3. The N tractors have a common sump for the rear end, hydraulic pump and transmission. There are three drain plugs under the tractor and one filler cap behind the gear shift. To change the fluid, start by removing the pipe plug under the rear end and move forward to the hydraulic pump and then the transmission. Use universal tractor fluid (UTF) that meets Ford spec M2C-134d. (Read the label.) Or you can use SAE 90W gear oil. CNH sells their oil as "Ambra G134" Get the equivalent oil at TSC as Traveller brand GL1 or NAPA, Part No. 65-205. 4. To add just the right amount of hydraulic fluid, remove the bottom bolt from the inspection plate; unless you just cleaned out the sludge in the pump base, it will only take about 4 3/4 gallons (not 5) of the hydraulic oil. When the oil leaks out of the bolt hole, it has enough in it. If you have old, worn seals, any more fluid will leak past the seals and onto the brakes.

  • @lostinmyspace4910
    @lostinmyspace4910 4 года назад

    Thanks for the heads up on trans/hydraulic fluid. I won't save money cause you'll only pay 10 times more to the mechanic down the road. I will call a Ford tractor dealer for their opinion. I believe out of the gate that Traveller's is a good oil, or just call NAPA for their products.

    I'm in the same boat as you, pretty much. I bought this new when I had 5 acres of forested homestead and loved the concept of this vehicle. It was great to power an electric chainsaw to cut up fallen trees, then mow the yard, then haul rocks or other stuff around. My first deck had a controller burn out because the wiring harness was broken, so they sent me a whole new deck. Recently, one of my motors on the replacement bent a shaft but, fortunately, I had the old deck, still, and robbed a motor off of it and have it running, again. My battery pack is almost dead, and I dread changing that out. As you say, nobody wants to work on these because they're so foreign, both in technology and in craftsmanship. I still love the concept and wish they had more success. I don't regret my purchase, but it really sucks that I have so much invested in something that could die at any time. Hope you got your motor and controller sorted out and you're still able to mow. Cutting with just one blade is the pits!

    • @harvsnaturalhoney5837
      @harvsnaturalhoney5837 4 года назад

      Sorry to hear that you have the same issues. Im sure many other owners of this machine are in our boat as well. I did find a used complete deck with motors & controllers, installed it, completed one mowing with yet another controller going out! At this point my frustration kicked in, I removed the deck & use the Raven as a portable generator and small tasks around the acreage. It works great for that but just not a reliable mower at all. Yes it was great concept and maybe someday the idea will be perfected but not with the Raven for sure. Try keeping your batteries on trickle charge or run the machine some during the winter months to keep a charge on those batteries. Amazon does sell a comparable charger for about $28.00. Yes the battery pack will be expensive if bought as direct replacement on E-Bay or Amazon but I will research comparable affordable deep cycle batteries for when the time comes to replace mine & hopefully post a video on that subject. We have a Rural King in our town now & I noticed some golf cart batteries and other batteries that just may fit at a price that won't break the bank. I'm too deep in to abandon the machine just yet. Have a great day!

      I have had one 5 year now it no longer charges the hybrid batterys.Now when they get low I bring it back home and plug the the charger and charge them. Had it to a shop after two weeks they call me tell me shop fee is 40 bucks still can't fix it because it's over pay grade. So I too have one hoping to find a electric man maybe it will help down the road.

    • @IdiotF0ol
      @IdiotF0ol 4 года назад

      @@crawfordoverton4883 Does your generator work? Just curious if the issue is that you're unable to generate power. If you wall charge, are you able to mow the whole yard, or does it die on you? I still think, for me, it's just drained batteries that don't take a charge well. I'm clearing out my garage and may try to tinker around on mine this weekend. We'll see.

    Ant problem? Checkout my channel and the video of my ant proof hive stand. I used to have ants getting into the hive all the time, but since I put the hives on this hive stand a year ago, I haven’t had a single ant getting into the hive! m.ruclips.net/video/tfTH0vzu5zw/видео.html Just be sure to keep grass, weeds, etc. trimmed so ants can use them as a bridge to get around and bypass the stand legs. This stand really works, and I used to use cinnamon but had to replace it after it rained (cinnamon gets to be expensive to replace maybe 2-3 times a week after it rains), rain doesn’t affect the grease in the PVC caps on the legs of this hive stand!
