NO PLACE LIKE NEWFOUNDLAND

How many of you RUclipsrs remember or have heard of the Twillingate Barracudas? In their heyday they were a very popular four-piece band. For any number of reasons, work commitments being high on the list, the Band never played much far afield and consequently never received the full recognition they deserved. For those who never grew up with the Barracudas, and other RUclipsrs who have never h...
PULLIN' OIL FROM THE SAND

How often while growing up in outport Newfoundland did I say "I can't wait to get away from this dump." And I'm sure I'm not the only one. It's only when one has to leave home to find work, however, that he or she soon realizes that things are not always better on the other side. Even if they are, many of us transplanted "mainlanders" still miss the good old days in our outport Newfoundland. Th...

CURRY CLIMB HIKE

Western Newfoundland has many great hiking trails. Curry Climb, although originally developed as an off-road cycling trail, is a great trail that offers spectacular views of the city of Corner Brook and the Bay of Islands. Although there is no signage for the trail, it is not a difficult trail to find if one follows the directions provided in the accompanying video. Enjoy and please feel free t...
FRENCH BEACH, TWILLINGATE HIKE
Просмотров 165Год назад
What started as a day-long hike turned into a one hour hike. Thankfully I turned back before a short-lived but unbelievable rain downpour, with accompanying strong winds, hit Twillingate Islands like a sledge hammer. I did manage to capture a few pics and video clips of my time on the French Beach trails. Enjoy.

If you have watched any Canadian films in the past, you have almost certainly experienced the amazing talent of actor Gordon Pinsent. For a young lad from Grand Falls, Newfoundland and Labrador, who left school after grade eight, Pinsent accomplished many things throughout his very full life. Besides being a brilliant actor, he was also a writer, director, singer, poet, and artist. Please feel ...
HIPPIE DAYS & HIPPIE WAYS

If you grew up in the '60s and '70s, you are no doubt quite familiar with the hippie movement of the time. Hopefully this video just might re-ignite some wonderful memories. For those non-baby boomers, the video provides a brief glimpse into a subculture of communal living, artistic and sexual experimenting, and the widespread use of recreational drugs. TEN LITTLE TURRS IN THE FREEZER
Просмотров 308Год назад
Turr (Murre) hunting is a well-known Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada tradition that goes back a hundred years or more. Especially in the 1930s through to the 1960s, the turr hunt was often an important and necessary source of food. Because many folk did not own a deep fridge during this time, turrs were often preserved for winter food in a salt pickle brine.
I liked him a lot but I think his taking a role on the Red Green Show was beneath him as an actor. Thank you for the Gift to Last memories. I would cut short what I was doing to watch that.
Such a sweet tribute, thank you. His music will always remind our hearts & mind to get our feet moving.
I can relate to this, thought I was in love many times, only to find the woman was just in it for herself 😊
We heard him many times. Every performance was a revelation. But thinking about John Prine's songs, I think the strength and beauty come from his fundamental kindness,
GOTTA LOVE THIS VIDEO!
Awesome person, Rest In Peace John.
Years ago someone posted on John's message borard the following: "The last quarter of the 20th. century would not have been worth living without John Prine".

This is such a unique trail. The shots, the planning and editing are beautiful!
Best newfoundland song written
Not one picture of the lake.
We were going see him in Jacksonville march. When it got postponed I had a felling he would not play ever again. RIP !!!
I remember Dave White's taxi as the first time I ever had a car ride. It was from Colbourne's wharf to the old hospital to see my mother who was a patient there at the time.
Thanks for the wonderful historical review of this town and area..... remonds me of my trip there decades ago and tasting Cod Tongues for lunch .
Lovely hike. Are you walking on a trail the whole way?
Approx. 95 % of the time.
@@boomerhiker - How long did this take you to do and are there any challenging slopes? I'm 68 now and cant do the big hikes; but Cedar Cove is a breeze, and I'm looking for something different this season. Thanks for any advice.
@@Dorism541 This is a relatively easy trail but lots of larger rocks along the route. Boots with firm ankle support recommended.
OMG so beautiful .miss you JOHN
Colourful flower power. Hippy 1960s. Message of peace ✌️. Was a good ideal man! As stated, it's still kind of relevant now. Good video..Good Times relived. Thanks for the history facts. 🎆🎈🎟🎟🎫♥️🌎🌍🌏🎡🌞🌈🍭🍭🌻🌻🌻🌼🌼🌼🌺🌺🌺🏕🏕💿📀💿📀📻🩴🩴🦺🕶🆒️
Cool video. The backstory is an excellent addition.
What’s the name of the first song?
“All the Best”
I can’t wait! A few more months and I’ll be walking there. 🥰
Actually the English mummers tradition can't be traced back before 1700.
An article by Julia Hatmaker published in "Penn Live: Patriot News", December 27, 2017 states, "Mummers have their roots in the past, tracing as far back as ancient Egypt. They're best documented during the medieval period, where the mummers' play was a popular pastime for the poor." The article by Julia Hatmaker provides a drawing from a 14th century manuscript with an illustration of mummers. I agree with you that the brief introduction to my video may be a bit misleading. It does read like the mummering tradition started in England some 800 years ago. Instead of stating "...and it probably began..." I should have written "...but it probably began elsewhere...". Actually the earliest recorded date of the mummering tradition being brought to Newfoundland by the English and Irish is 1819. Thanks for the clarification.
Thank you for this beautiful tribute to a great songwriter. I don't think John Prine really knew how great he was. I rediscovered him sometime in the last 10 years but as I listen to his music over and over on You Tube and Pandora, I realize he has been in and out of my eclectic musical tendencies. I REMEMBER EVERYTHING is such a fitting finale for such a great artist. At his age (the same as mine which isn't really that old when you think of it) and with the health issues he had overcome, I'm sure he must have had some premonition whether conscious or not. There is an old saying that one never dies until the last time their name is spoken. If that is the case, John Prine will live on forever. His music is for all ages.
there is NOSUCH THING AS COVID - IT IS A SCAM ONTHE WOLRD FOR THE N.W.O TAKE OVER ..
How much do these little boats cost?
He will live on forever with his songs, no one could write such beautiful songs that made you laugh and cry at the same time, rest in peace John.
Stunning scenery! I drove along that highway this summer and it was certainly a treat !
Wonderful
This song is about his wife Fiona right?
Gorgeous nature's place, stunning landscape views, great atmosphere and a lovely walk with you. Thanks for the tour!
