Take a look at H.R. 4006, Congressman Pfluger out of Texas is working on a bill to address this. Let your Congressman know about your interest in it. I'm a ham in Texas and just heard about this on our ARRL zoom call this week.

I am lucky in my HOA we don't have those kind of bylaws, we really only exist to take care of a lake and throw some block parties. However, my parents do live in one of the bad HOAs so I know both sides of it. I'm skeptical it will pass but HR 4006 is being reviewed by congress and seeks to alleviate some of our HOA ham woes.

Gotta love how HOA people and spouses often say: "Those few times I look up from my phone or I'm not mowing my yard, the sight of your roof really bothers me." Well, don't look! A friend who had seen one of my videos about my antenna came to the house and asked "Is that wire out your window the shortwave antenna your showed on RUclips?" My wife looks up and asks "How long has that been there?" Oh, just over a year, Dear. Heh heh heh! Not a ham, just a SWL, so that long wire across the driveway is almost invisible.

I also purchased an Alpha HOA over 1.5 years ago and had similar results but using SSB only. Im just not into FT8 although I di try it. Last fall replaced the gutter connection with 300 FT of 50 ohm wire and moved it away from the house in a U shape about 20FT high mounted to 4 trees. I also then added 4 counterpoise wires 25FT in length (now hidden by the grass). The signal improved greatly using the water away from the house lowering the noise. My FT991A antenna tuner can tune down to 160M and my longest contact has been just over 7000 miles. I have been thinking to add another 150 FT to it bringing the wire into the front yard ( 2 more trees) to an open-like rectangle. Good luck !

Great video. Any antenna that will get you on the air is a good antenna. The end-fed long wire and half wave antennas are also great for stealth installations because they're easier to hide the UNUN coil because it's not in the center of your antenna.

I did the same thing using a homebrewed 1:9 unun with a common mode current choke. The high side of the unun is connected to my downspout via about 6ft of insulated wire to a soldered lug, sheet metal screw & lock washer. Covered that joint with silicone seal. Low side of unun connects to 16ft (not precise) counterpoise wire that runs horizontally 10 ft below gutter and just above my garage door. Unun is mounted to rafters in garage ceiling just inside door. Feedline is about 30ft of RG58 coax. It works 80-12m with no ATU and SWR averages around 1.5:1. 10m requires ATU. Total cost less than $45.

Would your roof material cause a problem with running wire along the top of the inside of the house, reduce snow problems ( unless you get 20 feet of snow that breaks the roof <> you would have more than an antenna to worry about then), OK, I live in Kansas so far over the past few years the snow here in my town has been a quarter inch or less.

I got my Tech in 2011 studying the Radio Shack book, “Now You Are Talking” from 1996. A local ham club directed me to QRZ’s website for the practice tests. I aced the Tech. I then tried the General and only got one answer right. I eventually did get my General after taking a class. I probably did not need the class with as much studying as I did before I took it. However, I did get to ask a lot of questions in the class. I picked up Gordon West’s book for the Extra Class at a ham fest. Two weeks later, and doing nothing but studying in my spare time, I took the test and passed it at 100%. I learned from my studies that a Chebychev (sp) filter has a ripple in the pass band with a sharp cutoff, and that 140° is the correct answer. I just don’t remember the question. The math problems were my main concern, and I spent a lot of time studying them. However, I only had one math question on my test that was modulation index which was a simple multiplication process. Yes, a lot of it was memorization. I read each question, and only read the correct answer in the book (and maybe the explanation). Each answer on the test jumped out to me as I did not recognize the other answers at all. When I took the test, two other applicants were already taking their Tech exam. I went into the testing center after them, and walked out before they were finished. Bottom line, I learned some things studying for these tests. Passing them got me my license, but that license is my license to learn. Join a club, or two or three, and get involved in the ham community. That is where you truly learn ham radio.

Your noise is coming from your environment. It looks like a charger to me. You can try turning off different circuit breakers and seeing if the noise stops. You can then focus on what is causing it. Power supplies for leds and chargers are very noisy to HF. If you put your radio on a battery, and shut off the main breaker, that will tell you for sure if it is at your shack.

I had the same thing with my waterfall on the bottom, only showing half of the spectrum. Not just you. I thought it had to do with upper or lower sideband or something, but it kept with only the left side, even with being on lower sideband. Idk. Looks like you got it done! I got 14 contacts myself. More than I expected. 73, K1MAZ

Also by selecting U-D or L-D the audio is automatically routed in/out of the 8 pin connector on the rear of the G90.

Great video. I used to walk around all these places for exercise. I miss living downtown.
