I feel like Driver 1 & 2 walked so GTA 3 could run. Giving the series a more story driven game helped make GTA 3 a success as well, but for sure I can see your point of view!

The music was a huge part of the appeal for me when I first played, added so much life to the game world! I'm sorry you didn't get that then.

Thanks! I'm hoping that with the 'relative' successes and higher review scores of the past few Sonic games plus Sonic X Generations, we can get a totally new 2d Sonic game that is original. This one seemed the closest as the others are blatant remixes, which is fine, but still not completely original.

@Nick-ology Yeah, as someone who actually likes Sonic 4, I can agree. This game probably won't get a sequel (or even 'Plus' DLC?), but I guess it's a step in the right direction in that sense. I think it's the best 2d Sonic game, actually! But yeah, I think it's now time to retire classic Sonic for a little while and focus on something fresh, because clearly in the classic Sonic universe, they're so fixed on these set of rules that they're not willing to innovate any further for the brand, unless that's changing now. I'm now willing to have an Advance, Rush, Rivals, or even Boom styled 2d Sonic game, as long as it's just something new. I think the main problem with those games were the screen crunch, bottomless pits, and the backtracking, respectively. Now we're on console and have a better idea on how to implement the boost in 2D and make the level design better, I think it's now a good time to try those things.

I wish the SNES had an actual port of Space Harrier, but then it might have made Space Harrier 2 on thew Genesis look bad in comparison. Hyper Zone is like the perfect marriage of Space Harrier, F-Zero and Star Fox. Very fun!

Yes, you can buy and install it right from Steam on Windows 11 today! As far as from the original disc, I'm sure you could do it if you run the installer in Backwards Compatibility mode on Windows, but that may be a good experiment to run!

gta vice city...on windows xp and back than amd athlon 64x2 dualcore3800+ 1.99ghz 1gb ram 9400gt 512mb (sure that config ant notting special but it was fine )also i played san andreas in that period so pretty much thats how i got introduced to gta it was gta vice city and san andreas at same time pretty much 2008-2010 roughly

If I remember correctly, Steam was a big industry upsetter along with Xbox live around the same time. People were looking forward to the future of digital based distribution, but I think most of the people warning of license issues were treated like tin foil hat level conspiracy theories. I could be wrong, but convenience and 20 years slowly won people over

Yeah no...Consoles are unique...Unlike PC which needs to optimize for 10,000,000,000 different hardware configurations consoles have ONE well except for Microshit who thought it was a smart idea to have 2 different SKUs. In no universe are console "purpose built hardware that nothing else can do" . Consoles are a standard configuration that optimization requires 1 set of closed specs for people who have zero desire to maybe have to spend 2hrs of a launch just messing with their configuration to get it to run or run properly. Microshit are the only ones who felt the need to complicate that with the Series Welfare and the Series X but even then its TWO different hardware configurations, still nowhere close to the 10,000,000,000,000 different possibilities

That is all valid for sure, hardware differentiators will help make them more appealing and unique and Sony could be uplifting tech it has a stake in like Blu-ray. Maybe, just maybe, they'll uplift physical media again next Gen... If people show they want it! Thanks for your thoughts!

That's pretty neat, but I was mainly trying the "stock" out of the box setup. I'll have to try this for science of course, but GTA3 does in fact state it requires a dx8 enabled gpu. Stock setup, at least. I may have to try it again to see if something else was causing the issue, but it seemed pretty cut and dry. Thanks for the heads up!

Funny enough, I have that for the Dreamcast but I never really played it much. I played the warehouse demo for THPS1 to death, but I think I got thps2 for cheap one day int he hopes of playing it.

Crt monitors really kicked butt compared to those early 2000s lcd displays, especially the way the animations played out in gta 3 and vice city. Those were the days!

Interesting, I haven't tried too many mods with gta 3 outside of just player skins, but I remember modding gta 1 a whole lot back in the day. I wonder why gta and gta London didn't work on 98, of I remember correctly it was sensitive to the cpu you have and the speed. Good luck if you try it again, and thanks for sharing!

Agreed! Depending on the monitor it can look a bit darker, but still vibrant. As for older pcs, there are a lot of good dos and windows emulators out there, but also some decent old business xp machines still out there being sold for cheap locally... Good luck and have fun!

building windows xp pc isnt that hard.... i mean you can do it easy just put a core2 duo and compatible mobo 4gb ram maybe hdd or ssd 250gb some 9800 gtx or someting and there you go you got yourself a windows xp pc that you can play old games on im talking from expirience i built i7 3770 8gb ram 650ti evga 700br 2tb hdd and 480gb ssd pc z68xp ud3p mobo pc its a beast and it runs windows xp and windows 10 dualboot ...... its just retro and new things all in one

I can confirm that GTA San Andreas also works fine on XP. I dunno about 98, but if I had to spot a guess, that would likely work as well.

Depending on the graphics card, for sure! I'll have to look into a newer card for my p3, or try to install windows 98 on my p4 machine and call it a day!

That was one of those ambitious future-forward products that didn't leave Japan, but I'm happy it was released at all. The way Sega was lining up the Dreamcast to be the foundation for breaking through pure entertainment and into productivity was wild. Check out some of the conference prototypes of the Dreamcast MP3 player, iomega zip drive attachment, Pace-VR and TiVo media set top box stream boxes. There was some wild stuff in development that could have made Sega a media giant. Imagine if they slowly faded into 3rd party status and licensed out the Dreamcast platform instead...

Yeah I'm kind of afraid of it now, I haven't used the mic in a long time thankfully! The dreamcast to me has aged like wine and I'm happy that people generally think of it positively since I felt like it was crapped on a lot by console war kids back in the day. Thanks for the insight!
