Добавлен 8 мар 2009
Its not a StepVan it’s a “BobVan”😂. New channel name, previously known as Odins Lock. This channel is just a collection of interests. I’m striving towards becoming more minimalistic. I do locksmithing and also love making and repairing things in any material except for wood lol. I hate wood working! I just started a Patreon Acct for 2020. I’ll have in depth stuff there where as YT is general/ generic stuff.

Stepvan project update (it’s alive!)
Stepvan project update (it’s alive!). This video is unedited so I said what I said and misspoke in a few spots because I was just distracted while trying to aim the camera and talk about things.
1. You can hear an exhaust leak and I will try to fix it before the inspection otherwise I may have them do it.
2. According to Howard’s cam, this cam might run a lower vacuum as its higher performance than stock. The bounce on the vacuum gauge smooths out when I adjusted the idle air fuel mixture but then I had other issues so I’m pretty sure it’s a carb issue.
3. It’s also possible a valve/ rocker needs to be adjusted but I’ll wait til after the carb gets rebuilt and swapped to do that.

4l80E and B&M Shifter issues
Просмотров 1983 месяца назад
Having problems getting my linkage hooked up on the 4L80E. For some reason I’m only able to go into 6 gears. It’s possible the tranny is in a bind from being on a hill and I might be able to rock the Stepvan or lift the rearend and rotate tires a bit. But the shifter cable bracket also doesn’t line up with the bolt holes on the tranny pan. I sent message to B&M to see wassup. I’ll post update w...

4L80E Output Shaft Seal Install
Просмотров 1004 месяца назад
Had to install the shaft seal on the new donor 4L80E tranny before I can install the driveshaft. First part of this is when I tried to install the seal and it was incorrectly packaged (correct box, wrong seal). Second part is with the coreect seal. Thanks for watching, please like and subscribe!
Stepvan Engine Swap Progress
Просмотров 674 месяца назад
Update- This is two weeks after my last video. Finally got the rebuilt SBC and the new (used) 4l80e tranny. Slowly getting everything put back together. I had to cut out the old driveshaft (it was 50 yrs old) and was able to drop it off at our local driveshaft repair/ rebalance shop to have it cut shorter and all new u-joints and carrier bearing installed on it. The shop is called Inland Truck ...

vintage sbc to 4l80e retrofit
Просмотров 3625 месяцев назад
My usual rough unedited rambling about getting ready to mate the vintage sac to the newer 2002 4l80E. I wanted this tranny because it has the overdrive gearing I need which makes it a step up from the TH400 but its not without its issues as you need a transmission shift controller. I opted to go with US Shift Quick2 as I don't need anything fancy. My SBC is all stock other than the retrofitted ...
Stepvan drive along
Просмотров 2 тыс.7 месяцев назад
Just thought I'd take the Stepvan out for a quick drive. I haven't driven it much as a lot of my locksmith jobs are further out and the Stepvan does not like higher speeds. Its more of an issue with the transmission being from 1974 and they didn't drive them faster than 55 back then. Im adding a 4l80e which has overdrive gearing in the spring when I swap the engine back to the original that I j...
Cylinders heads torqued now waiting on rocker studs.
Просмотров 262Год назад
I have the cylinder heads on and torqued but had to remove the timing cover to double check some stuff and I’m also waiting on sone different rocker arm studs. I also just wanted to say, I’m no engine builder or automotive or engine expert. I had auto shop with VICAback in the 80’s and also went to vehicle mechanic school in the us army (63W) back in the 80’s as well and been working on automot...

Stepvan rear wheel seal leaking
Просмотров 582 года назад
This is just a an overview of the repair I did on my passenger side rear wheel hub. I originally thought it was brake fluid leaking from the brake cylinder then maybe my axle was overfilled and just found a place to leak. When I didn’t see any grease on the bearings I realized it was style hub that uses an oil bath for bearing lubrication. I was able to track down a lip seal and the outer beari...

This is an overview of a Jansite lcd camera with front rear views. It’s wonderful if you drive an older vehicle and can’t see what’s around you in tight spaces. It was super easy to install and had more than enough wiring to reach the rear bumper. What are you using for the windshield wiper switch? - Thanks
The stock switch is still there and works. The washer fluid pump doesn’t though.
Looks good Bob. Sounded great too.👍🏾
Finally, the grand tour thank you❤😂🎉😢😢😮😅😊
After some serious obsessing over it I think I figured out that I need this kit- B&M 75499 Cable Bracket/Shift Lever Kit, GM 4L60E-4L85E Rear Exit I ordered it and will do another video when I get it figured out. I never did hear back from any reliable tech support from any of the suppliers of the B&M shifter…
Hey Bob. Good to see you still posting and maintaining the van.👍🏽
Thanks for watching! I started posting this stuff on my locksmith channel and will try to post here too. Take care!
I keep say “E- Brake” when I mean to say “Trans-Brake”. It’s a brake mounted directly to the transmission and when I swap to the automatic I will need to figure out how to get the rear wheel emergency brake kit installed. Also, idk why but I always mistakenly refer to the flexplate as a flywheel. I know the difference I just do it out of habit but I need to correct myself so sorry for that.
звук ни дать ни взять ЗМЗ-53, ну точно бензиновый V-8
You may not consider yourself an expert, but it sounds like you have a good deal of knowledge of what you're doing. Carry on sir.
That looks awesome Bob. It's been years since I've done any major engine work on a vehicle. I look forward to the updates.
Very nice. Giggity
Hola Dios le bendiga,mi camion tiene el mismo diferencia y no e podido conseguir los rodamiento. Me pudieras ayudar en donde los puedos comprar
Sorry I didn’t see your comment sooner. Got mine through autozone. But all you need is the measurements to match them up. Rockauto online has them as well. Mill supply might have them too.
If you want to see more locksmith related stuff check out my other YT channel. youtube.com/@odinslockllc
Update- It turned out that it was a combination of failed lifters and a wiped out cam shaft that was what went bad on this v8. I’m in the the process of putting the new engine back together right now.
Howdy Bob. You did a heck of a good job on that repair.👍🏾
Thanks! Hope your doing well!
Oh man very cool I gotta get one of those thanks sharing my friend!💙🐈🚐🚐😎

Might consider getting a different 12-13" steering wheel at a speed shop to replace that older much wider steering wheel. I did that to a '77 Dodge PU with one of those older wide steering wheels, since the larger one was hitting my belly area, and it made a lot of difference in room available for me. On larger trucks though, you must have power steering and check to be sure if the shaft is 1/2" or 3/4", or best to take the old steering wheel in to get correct shaft size. Newer vehicles have smaller such now anyway, and with airbags and such can't really replace them as easily as on those pre-airbag vehicles. It might also keep you from bashing your head on that wider wheel, which happened to me once in a '57 old car I drove in the early 70's. Watching how much you must spin the wheel on turns, I suspect you don't have power steering though. Please go a bit slower on residential streets with it, so easy for a kid to run out into the street.
That steering wheel is 19” wide, and it does have power steering which also feeds my brakes (aka GM hydro boost). I’ve looked at other steering wheels but most of them near my size aren’t as deep as mine (it’s from 5.5” top rim of wheel to back of mount plate). I put a spinner knob on it to make it easier with the reverse steering. They’re legal in my state. That wheel requires a long reach😂.
@@BobVan That definitely would require some "working with" to change, or use existing steer wheel with modifications. One advantage of dropping the steer wheel closer to shaft and being smaller is can swap in a really nice driver's chair with a great adjustment slide under it.
@@JoeZyzyx idk what other vids you’ve watched on my channel but you should watch my latest Vlogs, 62 and 63. I have upgraded the seat and some other mods. Everything is pretty much liveable now, but without being able to adjust the height of the solid steering column I still have the limitation of what wheel is gonna work. I just don’t want to spend a lot of money on a fancy steering wheel right now as it’s not a necessity for the time being. I appreciate your suggestions. Thanks for watching✌🏼.

Thank you my friend✌🏼. I’ve always enjoyed your channel. Thanks for watching and be safe out there!🙏🏼
@@BobVan definitely my friend you much much welcome and have to watch your videos also keep keep them coming now yeah.😃
i just picked up a 74 stepvan and im looking for emblems this is the perfect channel to watch.I'll have plenty questions lol!
I’d definitely get the wiring schematic from faxonautoliterature site. It’s saved me over and over again. The term “Stepvan” gets used interchangeably... Is yours actually the Chevy “Stepvan” or the GMC version like mine aka “Value Van”? What size is your vehicle? Mines the P3500, equivalent to the Chevy P30...
@@BobVan i noticed yours says value van on the side but on mine it says value van.
@@tarikabdullah6758 so yours is really made by GMC like mine.
@@tarikabdullah6758 I’m on Instagram, profile is set to private but add me if your on there. I have a lot more stuff on there that’s Stepvan related. Profile is “odinslock”.
Hi there Rocky, lol. Great one.
Happy New Year my friend.
Thank you! You too! Hope your still able to make progress on your Stepvan with the weather the way it’s been. Thank you for watching🙏🏼✌🏼
I guess you aren’t a “Reptillian” since you didn’t eat the shell as well 🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤪😜🤪🤣😂 🦎 Do you remember that show in the 80’s titled: V
That was an awesome series. Heard there’s a new remake series about it now...
You are the first person that I have ever seen eat an egg raw, besides seeing the Dad on Never Ending Story do so. That’s HARD CORE !!!
I first seen it in the original “Rocky” movie back in the 70’s. Been doing it ever since. Even better with that precooked bacon. Breakfast of champions😂😉😎.
HAPPY NEW YEAR !!! I L❤️VE FUNNY HORROR MOVIES 🧟♂️👻☠️🧠😎😜🤪👍👍
👋👍
Thanks for watching🙏🏼✌🏼
Heck you should have no problem living in a van eating that lol cool video my friend much love from Oregon 💛💚😻😎
That’s my easy diy “no bake” method😎😉
Hey my friend nice to see you Happy New Years stay safe!
If it breaks again recomend replace grease on gears with white lithium grease as it does not get harder in winter
I tried to pack it with a thinner grease and it just blew the new stuff out the vent. I may just get online and but another one to have on hand. But hopefully this will last a few years before I need it. Hard telling how long it’s been broke before I got the Stepvan. Thanks for watching🙏🏼✌🏼.
Please get the exhaust (tail pipe) out from under the truck - don't need anyone getting sick or going to sleep and not waking up...
Yeah I was thinking about running tailpipe all the way to the back. It does exit by the rear axle and the floor is completely sealed so nothing is getting in now. Fixing the doghouse seal was a huge help too. Carbon monoxide detector will be installed soon. Thanks for watching🙏🏼✌🏼.
I watch a lot of the people you mentioned. Even met a few. Hope to meet more when I get to more gatherings next year.
