    That fishman is a cadillac of a pedal not entry level. More affordable pedals are available which can also load custom IR such as the Nux Optima Air, Two Notes Cab M+. The Nux Optima Air allows to create custom IR for your own guitar

    Im looking for a replacement for my Taylor 414ce-R-V with the ES-2 ... which absolutely sucks. I was given an Sheeran Autumn Variations "W" series guitar with the Element and it sounds incredible. Im thinking about putting an Element in the Taylor, as the Sheeran is to small for my taste . The Sheeran is walnut B&S and Cali Redwood top with beautiful inlays and a builders edition beveled edge , ebony fretboard Im using it on stage for now because of the tone but I prefer the Taylor for the full sized fretboard .... And the incredible neck and acoustic tone . I just cant take the ES-2.

      It really just comes down to personal preference. I haven't tried the Tonedexter 2 - only the original with updated software. I think the features of the new one would make it more versatile and effective than the original. I liked the VPDI better than the original Tonedexter, but I suspect I would like Tonedexter 2 as much or more than the VPDI. All that said, I am not currently using IR live at all.

  • @PRDewhurst
    @PRDewhurst 2 месяца назад

    It’s all so subjective. The Hi Fi sounds lovely and full and natural here, but often that equates to “muddy” in a room with any kind of extraneous noise. I’d rather run with something bright and detailed that you can take the top out of to suit a room than try to dial in treble/air that isn’t naturally available from the pickup. The other consideration is of course how different guitars contribute to pickup characteristics. The Element sounds a little bright and tight here whereas the Hi Fi seems very natural and unhyped in any frequency. This tallies with all of my experiences with small bodied guitars such as the LG2 and USTs vs SBTs. However, put the Element VTC in a big guitar such as an SJ200 and the story would be very different-the Hi Fi would likely be boomy and difficult to tame feedback wise, whereas the Element would be full, focused and more feedback resistant. I recently played the newest iteration of the Gibson SJ200 that is factory fitted with the Element VTC, and through a Da Capo 75 amp it was mindblowingly good. Just a superlative sound, super professional-balanced, smooth and articulate, stage ready. I use Sunrise pickups by and large, and the VTC is the only thing I’ve heard recently which has made me want to take the Sunrise out of my SJ200.

    • @redhatreview
      @redhatreview 2 месяца назад

      I completely agree that it’s all subjective and really does depend on your context. I currently have 3 different guitars with 3 different pickups for this very reason. I personally find the HiFi to be able to handle dense mixes and larger venues just fine. For me, it’s all about starting with a pickup that you like and works for you and then EQ is the way to allow that to translate from venue to venue and go from solo to full band, etc. The sunrise is a great magnetic pickup, and it sounds like it works really well for you.

    • @PRDewhurst
      @PRDewhurst 2 месяца назад

      @@redhatreview you’re absolutely right! Couldn’t agree more. Yeah I love the Sunrise, I have several in different guitars and they’re just such a solid, high quality piece of kit. Having said that, the guitar that’s become my main workhorse lately is my Fender American Acoustasonic Jazzmaster…I bought it to help with a shoulder RSI but it’s so good that I’m using it live pretty much exclusively at the moment. Gives me so much flexibility for solo shows, and particularly for looping. Easy access to huge soundscapes with some carefully chosen effects!

    Hi I’ve been looking at these for a couple years now. I’m always looking to improve my acoustic tone. Ive got an HD28 with a KnK trinity pro pickup. I run that through a venue di and a session di. I also use a Body Rez pedal with a bit of reverb and delay. Sounds pretty tasty Would using a VPDI eliminate the need for these other di boxes? Specifically the venue and session? Thanks

    • @redhatreview
      @redhatreview 3 месяца назад

      It sounds like you have a pretty good setup. The VPDI would be a different sound, but as for if you like it better, that’s pretty subjective. I think people have to just try for themselves and decide. If you went with a VPDI, you wouldn’t need the venue DI. Could still use the session compression if you want in the effects loop along with your reverb and delay. You wouldn’t likely want to use the body res with the VPDI.

    I absolutely love my RPH-05, however, I found that after a short time that the frets appear to be chromed plated steel, and that the chroming has chipped off or worn away on just about all the frets. The guitar is still great to play, but the fretboard doesn't look as nice as when I bought it, and I can't afford to replace the frets. Hopefully Recording King has addressed this cosmetic issue. Still, it's my favorite couch guitar.

    The Hifi is a definite improvement, but still sounds terrible compared to a properly mic'ed guitar. ALL piezo systems should be burned, and sent back to the pit from which they came.

    • @redhatreview
      @redhatreview 4 месяца назад

      There’s no question that a mic is the absolute best way to represent the sound of a guitar. It doesn’t work in many of the live music environments though, so we continue to chase the goal of getting a great acoustic guitar sound when playing live. Maybe someday we’ll get there, but till then a mic will always be best.

    Hey man, thanks for the video. I got 2 questions. First: would it be better to have a guitar without preamp? I mean to connect the guitar straight from the piezo to the aura. Second: having this type of pedal, should I run the rig into a PA? Cause I figure the sound would be changed if I connect it to an amp, let´s say a Roland Ac33. Cheers!

    • @redhatreview
      @redhatreview 5 месяцев назад

      I personally like active systems in my guitars, but a passive system without a preamp can work with the Aura as well. The Aura was designed with piezo undersaddle pickups, so those tend to work best, but I’ve had good results with bridge plate pickups as well. I usually go straight from a pedal like this to the PA. There’s no reason you couldn’t plug into an amp, though. The tone shaping on the amp may not be as needed, but that’s ok.

    Interesting video. My feedback is this, they both sound good but the HIFI to me sounds like element with compression on it, which, if you have no choice but to plug straight into a small pan can be good and bad. I've been faced with having to plug into a small lackluster pad with my vtc and be high end of it saved me from sounding muddy. I don't think that would have been the case with the HIFI. I guess tray also pints out the importance of a preamp di for more serious performers as well. I'll stick with vtc for now but in the near future I'm getting a KLŌS 12 string with the Anthem+ installed. Anxious to see how it sounds 😊

    Ok, so I installed the hi fi into an LO0 , sounds pretty good, definitely better than the under saddle baggs in my Lg2 and J45. It’s closer to the real sound of the guitar. Was a pretty easy install. Finger style stuff sounds great, my son has learned a heap of Bruce Cockburn songs and plays them live around here through an Aer compact 60 , so I’ll see how it goes . He has been using a GS mini ekoa plus with the expression system which gets a lot of compliments on sounding good. Hopefully the Gibby with the hifi will give it a nudge.

    I thought the hi fi would sound better, hopefully it does because I'm about to install one in my sons L00. I have an LG2 with the element like this one , it can sound pretty good when i add a bit of TC Helicon body rez. I also have had a few anthems but they can be boomy .There's an Australian guitar maker down here called "Col Clarke", I don't like the guitars much but the pickups are the best I've heard, I think they might use a bridge plate and mic , unfortunately I don't think they sell them separate. If you get to hear one, you'll know what I mean. I'm kind of hoping the hi fi sounds like the Taylor Expression system which sounds great in the Ekoa plus we have . I'll report back when I've put it in.

    • @redhatreview
      @redhatreview 7 месяцев назад

      Do report back. These things are very subjective and direct recordings of acoustic pickups just don’t sound that great. So, while it is informative to hear them direct, what they sound like live is what really matters. I’ve tried a Cole Clark in a store. Never live. Very impressive pickup system. I am personally looking forward to trying HiFi Duet, yet with cautious optimism.

    Which pickup do you prefer between the Hi Fi and the Anthem (I saw you’ve done other anthem pickup demos so I’m hoping you have either a memory of each or maybe you have the hi fi installed in one guitar and the anthem in another?) and which pickup is more feedback resistant? Thanks for any info

    • @redhatreview
      @redhatreview 9 месяцев назад

      They are quite different and both very feedback resistant. I think it really comes down to personal preference. What kinds of places do you play and what sort of sound are you wanting? The HiFi is a simpler, punchier, more cutting and direct sound (also quite pleasing), and the anthem is a bit softer and more airy and natural with the mic handling 100% of the tone above 250kHz. I don’t like the anthem with the element blended in much at all and thus am excited for the HiFi duet as it seems like it will be the best of both worlds. Time will tell.
