Pleasure vs Happiness in Retirement

I watch multiple RUclipsrs in retirement; among the most subscribed is Sarasota Tim. Many seem to be really living and enjoying life at a new level but others (like Tim perhaps), it seems to me, are living for short term pleasures instead of investing in things that bring longer term happiness. In part one, we review the things which bring short term pleasure vs things that bring long term happ...

SeeStar S50: Discover Your New Passion
Great video. Subscribed. I live in Southwest Virginia. A very humid area. I genereally leave my Seestar out imaging all night. When I go to retrieve it in the morning it's usually soaking wet with dew. I've never used a dew shield and never had an issue as the dew heater does not allow dew to even begin to form on the lense. Also, even though this unit is almost too easy to use, the real artistry and magic is done in post processing. I am looking forward to your take on the S30.
Regarding your first "Dislike" : What used to be Hard is now done with Ease, It took so long to learn, is now just a Breeze. Gone now that race and manic set up Time, Also such a money pit, made with all those Dimes! The hurry and flurry against the enemy Clouds, The rain on your parade, those spoiler image Shrouds. Heavy to move, position is fixed , unlikely to Travel, Making a fence, those trees, your hopes easily Unravel. All your Work , defeating the Quirks, Yes...we do Understand, But now such interest , newly impassioned now dot the Land. Millions more can afford , spare the time this Hobby of Yours, You trailblazed , inspired , now teach us, is the reason why...For. You were the first, early adopters. We thank the inspired who came Before. That is YOU...and thanks to Seestar and people like you ...we have people to inspire and teach us and show us what a fantastic wonderful Interest we have begun ....millions more than ever could have, would have got the opportunity to share in the awe and cosmic wonders of the universe than are now starting to get involved with. And that I believe is a very good thing not just for us Newbies ...but EVERYBODY because of what it does and where it takes us from now which is a better place and a greater appreciation for it , than would ever have been or happened. THANK YOU.
As a tree trimmer locust and osage have the nastiest thorns for sure
Very familiar with the honey locust tree, but as far as the Woodley mammoths love for the pods, if it's prehistoric we don't know if they "loved" to eat them even if they did eat them sometimes. Besides, a lot of other ancient creatures probably enjoyed them too
Self-employment. I was let go two days after I turned 65 in May. I was self-employed before I went after a J O B and decided to apply for Social Security and go back to self-employment because I will once again have control over what days I work and how long I work.
Are you near retirement or in retirement and had you position eliminated? What did you do? What advice would you give?
I accidentally leaned against one years ago while hunting. A lot of snow was on that tree. Lodged a 3 inch thorn in my shoulder. I can see them going through a tire easily.
They smell great when they're blooming.
Mine would not connect to my wifi. I sent it back and ordered a dwarf 3.
I go to a place in FL with spikey ass trees like that with wild hogs in them and next to a prehistoric sinkhole with almost 200 huge gators and vultures . The whole place has probably not changed since the mastodons and mammoths
Never seen one ,only on this internet 😊
John the Baptist ate Honey and LOCUST... THORNS REMIND me of "Jesus"
Genesis 3:18: "The ground will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field" In this verse, God informs Adam that the ground will be cursed due to his disobedience. So, thorns came about because of sin, not because of woolly mammoths.
Very nice piece of property and home! Sadly I’m in a bortle 6-7…probably more towards a 7 with all the growth & having a major interstate a couple hundred yards away to the East sure doesn’t help either.
Yikes! Can can you still get some nice photos?
Enjoying your Seestar vids. My suggestion, get a little puppy playpen for the Seestar to sit in so the dog will see it as more of an obstacle.
Great idea!
Where do you use your smart telescope? What Bortle level are you ?
When all the images making up the Frame and Rotation angle you set are complete, does the Seestart stop imaging or do you have to monitor and do that? Thanks, clear skies!
It keeps going till you stop it or the battery dies.
I got really drunk one night and climbed a honey locust once..... ☝️Once
Oh my!
Imagine how Christ felt having it slammed on his head.
Oh for God's sake. The goverment is getting out of control
Deer love em
Not even my 16" dob can beat eaa.go seestar s50 😂
Thanks for this excellent review! It’s nice to see a review that focuses on how it can enhance your quality of life and passion instead of technical specs. Great idea to donate one to your local school if you have the money.
@@leehillman1875 thank you for your comment!
I had one at the bottom of my shoe. I like the tree we have. I use some for Easter decorations. CROWN OF THORNS.
They are all over around here
The Seestar interests me, thanks !
Are you trying to become monetized? What have you learned on your journey?
Thanks for info I never seen or heard of honey locust tree..
Great video, and nice imaging! Doing some research here, torn between Seestar or Vespera 2. Greetings from Sweden:-)
@@erikbergman5810 Greetings Erik. Are you considering the Dwarf 3? Thank you for your kind comments.
@@UTRMidwest hey sorry for a late response! Had a look at it, but I think I´ll go for the Seestar when it arrives here in Sweden.
Honestly, Why are folk purchasing this 3 point leveler at the base??? You don't need it at all. As long as you have a flat level surface, use shims if not, do both calibrations on the app (level and compass) especially after each app update, get the tripod set up outside, either the one that comes with it or preferable a larger , sturdy tripod, check with small spirit level, mount the Seestar. I find having the power button side facing East or West, doesn't matter which, power on and your good to go! Never had issues tracking the Sun, Moon or DSO's.
@bobf3598 I was so focused on trying to get 0.0 then learned that was really unnecessary.
Great fun discussion with folks from all over the US, Ireland and Taiwan tonight!
I got the scope. Did a 2 hour image of Andromeda. Very fun
Very cool!
Congrats!!
4:43 Made that mistake. It makes a very distressing sound but fortunately, at least in my case, it was undamaged. \\ 7:29 Compass calibration is not necessary every time. You only need to do it the first time and thereafter very rarely.
havent had a clear night to try it yet. im looking forward to it though!
The concept that things like astrophotography should be hard is really a bit bizarre/ Professional astronomers operate pretty much the same way we do. If people think they're out there in the cold aligning a telescope with all its photo gear they're dreamin. They sit in warm observatory, tell their scope what to sight on and then sit back and wait for the results. Stellarium is my goto star finder - no way would I try and use star charts - just looking at those things drives me nuts but they are hard 😁
I have seen many videos on Mosaic mod and not one has said how it works.. Does it take a set number on images and then move on filling the box size you picked out or do you manually stop the imaging at any point and move on to the next area.
@@JamesHannon-j3q Manually stop or until your battery dies.
Great image. I am in a Bortle 7-8 area on the East coast. I was able to get about 130 minutes of data before Andromeda nears azimuth & would no longer stack. Nowhere near the detail you got. I need darker skies. I do love the option of the Mosaic mode. I have a Dwarf 3 on order & hope to get it within the next month. Should make imaging large objects like Andromeda much faster.
@DirtyBird It's still pretru amazing what it can do in more urban areas isn't?
@@UTRMidwest - Yes it does. I have seen more in the month or soI have owned the Seestar then I ever did in all the years I owned my large LX-200 GPS.
compass calibration stays, you only need to do it if you change from location. it´s the same then as when you change location when you fly a drone
the seestar has a price of 699 euro in the EU
I was noticing this morning Highpoint Scientific has several in the low $400s available now.
What's up neighbor I'm in Madison county.
I have used mine many times and NEVER recalibrated the compass.
G'day there I couldn't agree more with your first dislike. I've attempted astrophotography with a ZWO1600pro, all the software, wires, aligning, time and money, now I almost feel guilty (but don't) achieving amazing results with a few twirls for calibration and the press of a few buttons. But hey, who wants to spend hours trying to work out how to use all the software let alone editing. I love my Seestar. Cheers from down under Rick
@@richita3177 Perfectly said and cheers as well!
What bortle class are you.ive just downloaded the update but weather not playing ball.managed to get t atlas comet 3 nights ago.amazing device 🔭

@UTRMidwest same as me 55n 🇨🇮
I just got my seestar today, i love it so much. I wish it could get better planetary photos, but this is just the beginning of this technology. :D
Enjoy it! Agreed on planetary but we can't have it all....yet. 😉
I never recalibrate the compass and always set it up on the same spot. No problem finding objects.
If you are calibrating your seestar every single time you use if you are doing an unnecessary step. I have had mine for over a year and use it regularly. I simply balance it on the tripod and then after turning it on run the leveling again in the app typically to .3 or better and it’s ready to go. The only time I have had to calibrate is during daytime use if I am trying to find the moon in the morning when there are no stars available. Otherwise no calibration is necessary.
Hi, is mosaic mode available on public version ?
Yes, it was just released in a new update
How is the new mosaic mode working for you?
How has mosaic mode been working for you?
The S50 is not a replacement for an equatorial mount, guide scope, main scope, guiding software and all of that, which I have, BTW. If you really want to use your PixInsight or Astro Pixel Processor on the stored FITS frames, go at it. The images as produced without editing are really pretty good as well as being easy to see and share right then and there. There are many people I see at our outreach star parties who have real difficulty using an eyepiece. There are plenty of people who cannot or don't want to mess with the setup and take down of conventional imaging. Here in Colorado, winter observing is not a lot of fun and the Seestar can be controlled from the comfort of your kitchen while it toils in the chilly dark. Most people don't have access to a dark sky and are not about to buy the filters needed at $200 a pop. As with any all purpose device there are things it doesn't do well, like planets - or at all like rotating the sensor for framing. Make no mistake though - this is a real telescope and camera combination that can be used in minutes from just about anywhere which is not the case with larger and more expensive setups.
@davidn2619 It was getting out last night on 36 degree weather and popping back into the house to watch on my ipad! Thanks for the very thoughtful reply.
