How is she stopping the father and his mother from seeing her children? Legally both could demand visitation? In my country this is certainly possible. It can be a lenghthy process to try and stop this. In some cases child services would help with access even if the visiting parent is abusive. How do some many of these woman walk away without ever having to see their partners again?

A decree doesn't mean capable. It just means you can learn from books. One of my relatives married a teacher. Said lady invited people for a Sunday lunch. When they turned up they found there no food. Only a tin of beans and some past it's best bread. They found a shop that was open and bought some stuff to have and ended cooking their own lunch. They never accepted offers of meals again. She was lovely but completely hopeless at practical stuff.

Why do people expect grandparents to care for their grand kids for free? Even if the grandparents say no it would nice to offer a little bit of money or offer to take them for a food shop once in a while. In my country a professional child minder can earn 37000 a year.
