The Making of Saloon | A Documentary
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Месяц назад
We started writing "Saloon" in the spring of 2012. We wanted to capture something that was chaotic and unique but still had integrity and replay value. We were so young then (Dawson 20, Kyle 18, Tj 18, Parker 14) that trying to find our own sound was an extremely uphill battle. We were all trying to discover our own identities at that point, let alone write something that was true to ourselves....
The Saloon Vinyl is here

What an amazing vinyl! Special thanks to Solid State Records and Unoriginal Vinyl for putting all this together. ALSO shout out to Elwira Pawlikowska for creating the original artwork. To hold this vinyl after 10 years feels so surreal. Thanks for the love a support all these years! Get it here before they are gone! www.theongoingconcept.com/

Thats a great idea!
Can we get a rig run down? Premiere guitar style?
I remember goin through some of those videos with my brothers back in those days. They gave off some balloonshop vibes and you guys are right, that humor was totally in.
Balloonshop was our favorite channel at the time! So good
That one hurt. Still here.
Still a GOATED album
Me everytime I'm playing CS2 premier: There's a cheater in this lobby
Lost my Macbook Pro around the same time. EMF issues as I went homeless. Lost it next to a coffee shop. They didn't want my water bottle, just my computer. 2015 or so. Goodness. I just got a new Mac. Just started working on things again. Just had to learn internet security so I don't get burned to kingdom come again. Nice.
absolute fire
Ah what a classic.
Vice grip garage much
Absolutely love it
First comment on what will be a legendary video
I really appreciate these videos because as one of my favorite bands, I have to sadly accept that I will probably never have the chance to see you guys live so these hq live videos are definitely the next best thing.
Still one of our favorite live performances we've seen
Lolol the video just jamming in the background lolol
TJ is amazing!!!!
Freaking love every detail in this! The live sound and feel, Gandalf in the background, the rawness when Dawson just rolled with it at the end. All of it. I love it all and I love you guys! Please don't stop making music. You're always a breath of fresh air in a world of generated mush.
Thanks so much! Gandalf fit in better than we expected lol
Chef's kiss
i love the commitment to not taking the free lessons sticker off the guitar
Payed $170 for it. The sticker keeps it feeling as "Walmart" as possible 🤣
@@TheOnGoingConcept that's so punk
Is the John you guys keep mention from Langley BC? If so I am fairly sure I have recored with him a few years after you guys did. The studio seems to be the same layout if not the same space.
that bass tone is soooo goooood!
This was soooo good!! Would love to see more tracks done like this!
Yooo PJ! Miss ya dog! Yeah we want to do some newer songs like this in the future:)
3:30 lol Literally the most memorable part of the lyrics for me. I love the sauce it got tho
I can't believe how good you guys are at production 💀💜
thanks!!
My heart sank at 3:22.
honestly you guys have always had such a unique approach to this genre and i love it!!
Thanks so much!
\m/ \m/
Its an amazing fucken album!!! Handamde tho....? ABSOLUTE MASTERY!!!
This was awesome, I hope you guys don't view it under the typical lens of "podcasts". It feels like it's for the fans and you guys immediately got onto something that I've been wondering about for so long. When y'all started your hiatus I was desperately looking around to figure out what happened and turned up nothing apart from the new lineup, so it's great to hear the little tidbits and finally get answers to some things I've been wondering about. No pressure I hope y'all put these out at your leisure but I'll definitely continue to watch em.
Thanks so much!
Stoked to see you guys are doing so well all these years later. I last saw you all in Nashville during the Norma Jean tour and had a blast at that show. Years later, you guys are coming back out east and Im bringing my youngest brother out to Nashville again to see you all! Absolutely hyped! Hope to see more podcast videos with all of you all.
Thats awesome!
Do yall work with other musicians? My bands looking for a studio for upcoming album
Dawson records other bands.
Love this. As someone apart of a band where the goal isnt making it big (given our personal lives have moved past onto other things like sustaining families) but creating something worth showing, its interesting to hear people talk about your personal lives and the reality of having been a touring band and how at the end of the day, not everyone makes it big and how much sacrifice there is in pushing a band towards "success". cant wait to listen to more from you guys and to hear what you guys have to say.
Who wouldn't care???
This was really fun! I'd love to hear more about what everyone has been and is up to and to get to know all the band members better if you're thinking on ideas for future episodes. I love learning about what makes bands and band members tick
what do yall do now outside of the band? i mean you have this big studio space are you recording bands and stuff out there??? does everyone just have like normal 9-5's now?
We have all had 9-5 jobs. Even when we were touring a lot back in the day. We have a studio space, and Dawson does record bands out of it from time to time. But its not what pays the bills.
How old is Parker?
I believe 26. Or maybe 27
@@TheOnGoingConcept You guys started so young. It's always funny thinking about how so much of my favorite music was made by teenagers and young adults.
God I wish I could have bought Dawson a soldering iron and gave TJ my cheap squire bass back then… Kyle and occasionally Parker went to a small group at Mimi Allred’s house with me at that time. Everyone goes through insecurities around those ages, but look at you guys now! Huge blessing and inspiration you guys have been to me and music. Btw… Kyle is so hot right now!
Just hearing your solo vox, you are such a sick singer man.
So glad you found this doc. This album is so good. You guys rule.
Ignore the view count! I love this, just been busy with work
I am really impressed with your youtube channel and your outstanding video. I appreciate your video content here, sorry I don't usually write in comments section but I think you deserve this complement.. Thanks and stay safe 🌺🌸🌼🌹🌷🌻
Great video, fantastic album, amazing band. Thanks for sharing your recording process.
Awesome
I went to see Hotel Books at a church in Rural NC years ago. And i walked out of that show a bonofied The Ongoing Concept fan. My friends have been very patient with me and my tangents when i show them my TOC flow chart, which points to as many song references to other tracks as i could find. Thanks so much for rewarding your long time listers and fans time and time again.
Thats amazing! Thanks putting your friends through that lol! You should join our discord if you want to chat with like minded TOC fans;)
crazy that this album has been out so long. i love experimenting with music. i loved seeing your process. great work all around. glad to see you guys still kicking around!
This is my favourite album, super happy you share with us this documentary! 🤘
Thanks so much! It was roller-coaster for sure!
@@TheOnGoingConcept You guys reached argentina here
This was really fun! Saloon is one of my all time favorite albums, and likely will be for the rest of my life. It has this amazing fusion of styles and uniqueness to it that really speaks to me. Same with Handmade. Saloon really has a unique, Western metal feel to it that I've never gotten from anything else. Sidenote: I grew up in Dillon MT (right next to Bannack where ya'll filmed the awesome Saloon video). When I saw that video for the first time, I about died from shock at seeing little old Bannack in a music video!
Thats amazing! That place was so cool! We want to go back some day
Thats the variant i wanted... and received! It's dope! Knew i had to have a copy of that album as soon as i saw it announced!
Mines arriving in a few days, already ordered this bad boy! Cant wait
