Lesotho - Mafika Lisiu pass in the snow
One that looks younger (I presume) came to our house in North East India yesterday.. And unable to fly.. We put him in the outside this morning and couldn't fly.. We checked but theres no visible injury.. Am just waiting for it to be stronger to fly.. I fed it seeds and rice with water
I've seen them at Magoebaskloof, Kologha Forest and Hogsback. I've heard them at Ingeli Forest and, believe it or not, Lekgalameetse.
Indian bulbul is same but calls are bit different.
Loved this episode and it was so good to see Dlinza forest again. Thank you, Doug for all that you do.
Thank you for a super interesting episode!
Absolutely amazing show, thank you so much
Thanks Philippe
Aww shame😅
My first thought was that your thumbnail was so unmistakably Martial because of the head shape and dark patch around the eyes - but useful to know the other four features. Thank you!
@@max22able thanks for the compliments. This was aimed at relative beginners who don’t always know that bad shape that well.
Love the book, the only negative is the owl drawings aren't great. Everything else is great.
That is a wonderful prize! Very happy for you.

Great interview, Keith--congratulations on your new book!
I lived in Clarens for 10 years, the best 2 years of birding was when I worked at Old Mill Drift on the Lesotho border. Now I am in Cambodia, only see sparrows and doves mostly but I have seen some hornbills in Siem Reap. I really miss our South African birds, especially from living in Zululand.
whats the diff between a dove and pigeon ?
Hope you don't mind a question but I saw a bird in krugar with a thick red Stripe going width ways (not length ways) across the middle of the underside of its wings, I just can't find out what bird it is, any idea? I've tried to find out for a few years, now I'm very ill but would still love to know, if you can help I would be very grateful. Kind regards, Jilly
Maybe a Purple-crested Turaco?
@@justusroscher6355 yes maybe. I thought the red Stripe was in the centre of the wing but after searching all this time and not finding anything I must be mistaken, so I have to agree with you, thank you very much for your reply. Best wishes .... Jilly
😊👍🏼
Incredible!
Your Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird distribution map is incorrect. They are also found along the KZN coastline.
Fabulous thank you
Love your programs thank you
Brilliant. Been nearly 20 years since I’ve been to SA. Can’t wait to go back for some of these birds. Subscribed. Return the favour? 😂
Hey my famous friend 😊🙏🏻!
Beautiful diversity of animals being heard here. It almost sounds alien-like, in a good way.

All is explained in here: sabap2.birdmap.africa/docs/Horus_Swift_Jansen_Driessens.pdf
Eat little clip I've seen thus far of the Barbets calls and sounds. MY FAVOURITE Barbet is the Crested Barbet, my kids and I hand raised a baby Crested Barbet, you hardly ever find a Barbet but down the road from where we stay a person was cutting down a few trees and I think the Crested Barbets nest was in one of the trees that was cut down. The Crested Barbet has a character of its own, extremely Bold and Scared of Nothing at all. I know every bird from all bird species has their very own character, Our Crested Barbet, we Named Hopper, cause a Crested Barbet doesn't walk like other birds, they hop wherever they go, and if a Crested Barbet is in a hurry then it can hop so so fast, anyway our Crested Barbet, Named HOPPER, didn't like to cuddle, it loved to sit on your shoulder and and hop from one shoulder to the other shoulder and when you bent over it would hang like a parrot on your shirt, our Crested Barbet was very independent, and it had different calls and sound when it say me, a different call for attention and a different call for some food, and there was a slightly different call for when it wanted certain foods, like a slightly different call for when it wanted fruits or insects like , crickets, meal worms ect. I promise you I'm not making this up. Anyways I couldn't keep HOPPER in a fairly big aviary by itself, so HOPPER out little Created Barbet was now big and healthy and I could see it wanted to be free like it should be, so we released Hooper, we see Hopper often in our Bird Garden, still comes to eat and have a drink of water and loves to take baths in the one water bowl as we have 4 water bowls in the bird Garden, hopper use to come to me when it say me, it would land on my arm or shoulder, then hopper would land on the floor and come hop over to me and then jump up on me and now, it doesn't land on me anymore, but still comes very close. When I take our Pitbull for a walk and hopper our Crested Barbet sees us, it flies from one tree to the next tree and has different calls and sounds it makes. I've got a few photos and videos of Hopper our Crested Barbet, I miss that little bird but it seems so happy free now, I'm just so grateful that my kids and I had the opportunity to save/rescue a baby Crested Barbet and release it back into the wild. Not many people at all have opportunity to like that with such an amazing bird like the Crested Barbet. I know you need a permit to keep a Barbet and all that, but we saved the little birds life and it's been released and is a daily visitor at out house.
Very helpful- thanks
Thanks for the kind words 😊
Thanks for that, very useful.....
Thanks for the positive feedback 😊
This video was awesome to watch and listen to!
Where is the most colourful of all: Grey Headed Kingfisher?
Wow Lesotho is beautiful 🔥🔥🔥
that fricken babboon in my right ear!
Lovely Thankyou
I love this! May I just suggest that you add the name of the bird to the image in written form? Looking forward to more of these!
Tolles Taubenvideo!!!!!!
Was that a Woodland Kingfisher at 3:04?
I was wondering that too!
Great job....
Epic video! I'd love to visit South Africa.
Looks really interesting!
It is spectacular and so much more to discover.
Is Everton River Gorge the Northern most limit of the distribution of Knysna Warbler? Here in the Garden Route you can still locate them in winter by their short scratchy repetitive krrr krrr alarm/contact call with the odd bird even obliging with the full territorial call, but they are definitely less vocal at this time of year!
They are not known to extend this high up. This is a small seemingly isolated population in KZN
Thanks so much for posting your videos. It's really interesting as a UK birder to learn about South African birding.
Thanks for the kind words. I am glad you are enjoying our videos.
Not perhaps 24th June, Doug
You are right and thank 😊. I have corrected it.
I live in Cambodia now and believe it or not, I really miss them! There are very few birds here in Siem Reap. Mostly sparrows, mynahs, and a few LBJs. I have seen a few doves with blue heads, so birding is just a memory for me now. 😢
