Digitakt 2 Poly Tempo Pendulum Experiment

I've seen this done before and I wanted to try it myself. There are 9 different notes looping at a steady tempo but all of their tempos are at a 0,15 BPM difference compared to notes next to them so they immediately start to drift apart forming new rhythms and musical ideas. It's a very interesting and inspiring exercise.
Bowing the Bass for Blissful Ambient Sounds

Always on the lookout for new ways to create soundscapes. Needless to say this one was a success. I'll definitely be bowing more in the future. It sounds incredible. Why not? Try it out! It's a lot of fun. I ran the guitar into the Behringer Cat and did some slight filtering there. From there it goes to the EXT in of the Model D mixer section with the mixer and filter running hot and distorting. There's a boost pedal on before the synthesizers for a stronger signal but the guitar does not distort before it hits the Model D which provides all of the grit. UA...

I love your experiments... 🤣 Fantastic!
@@RainerMuenz Cheers! :D
Excellent idea. I have seen this quite a few times but the bass never sounded that fantastic! Great combination of your play and FX. Wow!
Thank you so much! It definitely takes some dialing in to get it right. The most important part, I feel like, is getting the right amount of saturation in there. A cleaner sound won't sound good. Slap a distortion in there and don't be afraid to go nuts with it. It'll work wonders! The UAFX reverb/delay pedals help a bunch too though. They sound fantastic.
@DawlessAndBibleBlackThanks so much for the details. Very helpful indeed. Just one more question... the bow, is any bow (for violins) good or does it need a special bow?
@RainerMuenz No worries mate happy to help. Nothing special here, I'm using just a basic cello bow. Remember to put some rosin in it though or you won't have enough friction for it to sound. They'll sell rosin blocks in the same place you can get bows!
Oh and by the way, I'm using an octaver here to go up one octave. I turn it off in some parts to get lower on the same string. If you have one, definitely try it out! It'll make your bass sing like a thick lead instrument.
@ Thank you again. Yes, I do have resin and a (cheap) violin bow. Might be OK for a first test, and then I'll see if I should get something better. I don't have an octaver (if it is not included in one of my multi-FX units but I don't think so). Good idea, I will do some research. I have already included my e bass in a few synth recordings but not using a bow and only using a Zoom multi FX bass pedal with some of the presets. I was quite happy with the result, but there is potential for more. 🙂
Ye Gods , this is gorgeous! I cant believe that this recording is just what it sounds like out of the box .
Thank you for your kind words, much appreaciated! Yes this thing sounds very gnarly and massive. The oscillators and filter are super nice.
Nice to see the case full. Cool jam. Like you I tend to go in all kinds of directions. In the end you just gotta go with what you're feeling that day. Thanks for sharing.

@@TheMachinesWon Cheers mate, thank you. So far I think it's a really fun machine. Sounds growly and big. Being battery operated it's fun for couch sessions.
@ that’s dope! And u can change the notes via cv or midi I’m guessing as well?
@@TheMachinesWon CV yeah. It has two LFO'S itself too
God damn it sounds good. Great drone machine.
@@rasmusinterstellar It sure does! The oscillators and filters are gnarly!
@DawlessAndBibleBlack Oh yes its really gnarly, somehow it reminds me a bit of behringer neutron in the sound!
@@rasmusinterstellar Sure they have something in common with the traditional analog approach. I like the filters on this better though but the Neutron is a beast for sure
What do you think about the internal speaker? Did you try it out? I only made a quick test with the synth, only using the internal speaker, and I was not satisfied with the bass. I couldn't make low frequency drones as low as I wanted but I guess this was only because of the quality of the speaker. What you made sounds better.
@@RainerMuenz Thanks for listening and commenting! The internal speaker to me is really for some small noodling on the couch. You're right it has no low end whatsoever. Plugging in any headphones will make it sound like a completely different synth. I'm happy that the speaker option is there but it really doesn't give a good impression of the sound. But I guess I expected that, it's the same with any of these small battery operated synths like the Korg Volca series. They sound big plugged in though and the oscillators and filters on this one are really growly, I like them a lot!
@DawlessAndBibleBlack Thanks for confirmation. The noodling on the couch was exactly what I did. Not enough time for more so far. So I am really looking forward using it with headphones or connecting it to my mixer and do some recordings. Internal speakers are often not the best... but maybe I expected too much. The speaker in my Yamaha finger drum pad is great, for example, and I think the speaker from the Stylophone Theremin is also quite OK. But I guess it's all about frequencies... bass doesn't work well.
hell year.. that was cool!

Awesome I'm so glad to hear that!!@DawlessAndBibleBlack
Hi,Compliments on your talent! I’m interested in this synthesizer, but I’m undecided between the Proton and the Neutron. Which one would you recommend for creating dark ambient, drone dark ambient, and Harsh noise death industrial ?
@solitudewaysproject1001 Thank you, much appreciated! It's a tough question. I would personally maybe choose Proton for Industrial but Neutron for more experimental dark ambient / drone. I reckon they would be incredible together but all in all I think the Proton sounds a bit more modern in a way and the Neutron has sample and hold. Missing the S&H felt really bad when mskikg stuff like in this video. If I could only get one I think I would go Neutron but it's a hard choice and probably comes down to preference. The Neutron feels slightly more experimental though. But also more limited in a different way. I'm not helping, am I? :D
@ My idea was to get the Neutron, and in the future, add the Behringer K2 and the Proton with a couple of pedals. All of them together would be spectacular. I don’t have experience with real, physical synthesizers, and I feel uncertain. I’m a beginner and have no prior experience. However, the Proton has a unique sound, and in this video, its sound completely captivated me. If I were to buy the Neutron as a starting point, which pedals would you recommend adding alongside it?
That sounds like a good plan. I think a good reverb will go a long way. Something that can handle the hot signal. I use UAFX Golden Reverberator. It's incredible but pretty expensive. For the things you're doing some distortion/saturation would probably be good too. A lot of people use the Zoom MS-series multi fx pedals with synths and they seem pretty good value for the money. That could be an option. Reverb should definitely be the first priority anyways.
The Ochd expander could add more funky modulation in 4HP.
That's a good idea. It's something I've looked at and if I need more modulation, I think the expander is what I'll get. What I'm thinking here is can I survive with 2 envelopes only? If the day comes when I want two volume envelopes and a filter envelope, I'm screwed. Could always do 2HP VCA + 2HP Envelope also I guess :D Not that important in drony music especially when I'm firing off samples but I don't know. Hard to tell.
How did you get the samples of the strings and piano?
I made them on the pc and transferred to the Digitakt
Great thank you. Brailliant work.
Thank you, much appreciated!
Great. Is it solina on leads all the time? What fx are on it?
Oh. Just got that it’s cat. I was thinking about 3rd 70hp module of behringer for triple rack. But I think model d and cat is all I need:(
You could maybe consider a Pro-1? It sounds great and is a different flavor compared to the Model D. Thanks for tuning in!
@DawlessAndBibleBlack i think it's 80hp:(
Oh you're right. My bad. It seems that Wasp and Solina are the only ones you don't have. But hey, not buying anything is also great :D I should do more of that. Wasp is very basic and maybe not that unique after all. Solina does literally just the one thing. But it does it so good that I'll just keep mine even though I don't use it much. But when I need to go full Pink Floyd I just gotta have it.
@ I thought to buy wasp filter separately but I didn't find it sound fit me. Not buying is the best thing, agree:)
Iike matrix 6 fm, a bit better...
Don't have personal experience with the Matrix but the TEO surely slaps hard and the FM is great!
I had a matrix 6 and FM was Good , but this better ...
Good to hear. The Matrix looks like a really intetesting synth too. I do think the FM on this one is really, really good.

@DawlessAndBibleBlack Sounds promising. And in addition there are many older videos that I need to watch. 🙂
Very nice, I am still a novice at this could you tell me how it is connected? What is providing the sequence?
@@gasnocash5612 Glad you liked it! Qu-Bit Bloom is sequencing the Plaits and acting as the master clock. It also send triggers/clock to thw Mutable Peaks which in turn provides some modulation and envelopes for the Plaits. There also a metal clanking sample looping slowed down from the 2HP Play. I run the Plaits into Clouds for granular processing and reverb.

@@scottnelle Hell yeah! It works like a charm, should try it if you have a bass and access to a bow. It's a Sire Marcus Miller P5 bass. I got it used and it's a ridicilously good instrument for what I paid for it. Like it a lot.
@DawlessAndBibleBlack awesome! I have a small pile of basses and I'm pretty sure my brother has a bow, maybe I'll give it a shot! I've always liked those Sire Marcus Miller basses, they seem like an incredible value for a really well built instrument.
@@scottnelle Yeah I'm bit of a gear snob with stringed instruments and this feels like a premium instrument with the rolled fingerboard edges, roasted neck etc. to me. They're great!
Amazing!
@@SoulSearchingGaijin Thank you! This was a beautiful session for me. I haven't really done it before outside of trying it out a bit. Took me by surprise.
sounds very cool! I dig it!
Thank you for stopping by! Glad you liked it.
Not a screwdriver, but I've used a brass slide to do something similar. It sounds like a "manual Ebow" a bit.
For sure! Any hard enough surface will work and yield different results. I find that sanding metal to be more coarse will bring out some additional harmonics and randomness to the sound which is really nice. The tip of this particular screwdriver has a coarse magnetic coating which works in a similar way.
Any chance of seeing these on preset patch?
