Man in the Window: Tracking down the Golden State Killer
During the 1970’s and 1980’s, entire neighborhoods in California went to bed thinking about one man. His crimes earned him many names: the Cordova Cat Burglar, the East Area Rapist and of course, the Golden State Killer. For years, he broke into hundreds of homes, sexually assaulting more than 45 women and murdering 13 people, before disappearing into the night.
This week on Crime Story, Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Paige St. John reveals why it took more than 40 years for victims of the Golden State Killer to learn his true identity.
Note: This episode contains details of sexual violence.

Cardi did it for free! She was a great poli sci student before she dropped out. She’s surprisingly smart
The party that thinks men are women and want erase Title IX laws didn’t win the election? Who would’ve thunk…
I am in shock that Canadian taxpayers must pay for this propaganda. It is time for the CBC to pay their own way.
So let me get this straight. People are droping X or Twitter because it has Freedom of speech. Oh make no mistake you say otherwise but the truth of the matter the left liberals and democrats have censored freedom of speech, freedom of press, and freedom of expression for the past 4 years. The problem is the left think that it's hate speech well hate to break it to ya that's life. We all had someone else hate someone. When I grew up people hated me gave me hate speech and so what just words. I said well your using your freedoms and I cannot cancel that out. It's building blocks in life. You cannot censor it by law but you can censor it yourself by just not listening. If you hear something bad on the TV or Radio you have the power to turn it off. If someone is using their rights to use hate words against you. You have the power to walk away. It's not the governments job to decide for you.
I believe it's Billie or Charlie's moment for album of the year, but I still rooting for Beyoncé...
X is about free speech. Otherwise, you woke clowns would be shutting down discussions that need to be had. Long-live Elon, Rogan, and Trump!
Wow. I could relate to his " taste " in mathematics. I got interested in all this because of the real analysis degree. I was jealous of his abilities, I was sad for months because I couldn't conceive that someone like him was better than me. And then this sentence. " He mastered college level math by the age of twelve ". Oh my God. Me too. I can't believe that what was probably a mistake when reading about this made me so sad. I'm thirteen now. I'm studying real analysis, topology, and non math subjects. I went to an university once. I know that this probably isn't the right moment, but I need to shoot this somewhere. I'm so glad now. I'm glad for Sarah to be living a good life. I can't believe I just got free of a feeling I had for months. Thank you so much.
It’s old school cursing how we talked back in the day
Finally something me and Hassan can agree on😭
Have been listening to this podcast for years. One of the best out there . Keep up the grind David.
Much appreciated!
This guy’s swearing is so juvenile and insincere, it’s like he’s pretending to be “cool”, he doesn’t know how to curse.
Didnt elvis play there regular?
I remember watching that documentary on CBC Sunday with Carol and Evan. Wish the original full length version were posted on RUclips. As the critics might say, it was "gripping".
Thanks for the comment. We're working on getting this published. Expect to see this online after SKS9's season finale.
Why no mentions of her Eurovision win?
Shawn seems like such a likable person. Great personality.
Thomas Moore Keesick. (Muscowpetung Saulteaux First Nation) I saw another photo on FB recently and thought to myself that.... That guy, looks like the modern day guy Andy Lau... It is like a spitting image of. And he's Cantonese, but his skin tones are still so kind of dark? And then it made sense. Even this name now, it comes across as Indonesian ? "Muscowpetung Saulteaux".... Oh wow.. so much secrets.. and the entire English into the British empire.. then into HK... and into SE Asia... wow...
This is so shocking, it seems so bad. I hope, deeply honestly, that she's well currently. It makes me worried that people like this are still hiding under the average ethical society
Elamin: we are not in YOUR house, you took over MY house years ago.
I wasin class watching the documentary and we all went wild ngl
David Ridgen is the gold standard for true crime journalism. I absolutely love his work. SKS remains my favorite podcast even after years of listening to so many other true crime podcasts. I get so excited when I see there’s a new season.
Thanks for listening!
Yes!!! He is soooo good
Any hit could suffocate and stage victims if the desire is to make it look personal. Why is there never a mention of DNA? This was an area which wasn’t used by anyone anymore. Also, belts. Money belts?
After listening to this I was reminded of the case of Justin Evans in Muskoka in 2020. You may want to look into that for another podcast. The Bracebridge detachment of the OPP is notorious, even at their head office, for being negligent and incompetent. I , myself have had dealings with them to do with break-ins, theft and sever harassment and increasing threats of violence that ended with us feeling further victimized by the police with no resolution. The same detachment has multiple ongoing investigations on them where SIU is involved concerning unwarranted physical abuse of the public including an 11 year old kid.
My heart breaks for Maryanne and Sean. David you’re such a good storyteller and investigator. Thank you for sharing their story.
His podcasts are my favorite!
They were treated much better in these schools than at home, thats exactly why the government had to step it and take the children. At home they were beaten, raped, starved and forced to live in abject conditions. Trudeau gave them countless billions in compensation before even a single official inquiry was made or a single corpse dug out.
You can drive illegal you're already illegal!
So much respect for these two journalists

That study was probably funded by corporations who don't want to buy their workers standing desks
why you making up stories
at least when you are standing and have a heart attack someone should see you hit the floor. If your sitting someone might think you fell a sleep
I am amazed that the comments are on. CBC usually always turns them off. There would be no issue if English CBC was a private network (like CNN or MSNBC). Taking taxpayer dollars to produce content that is entirely left learning (and often with low ratings) is wrong. Andrew Coyne is correct on this issue. The CBC should simply be made a into a subscription model service. There are people who love the CBC... and those viewers can fund it with donations/subscriptions. It can also be funded with ads. The point about the CBC being "nice to have" rather than "essential" is so true in 2024. It is not an essential service whatsoever. The money can be much better spent (maybe paying down the national debt or balancing the budget for the first time in a decade).
Nice knowing you They lied too you. BYE bye
Trump won😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
My favourite podcast. David is phenomenal at dealing with cases sensitively and with real empathy. That’s a rarity in this world.
My British husband’s relatives, the Barnes boys, perished in that tragedy. Thank you for sharing the story.
Kamala had a laundry list of celebrity endorsements. That played well with GenZ, but grown ups are typically more insulted by that ploy than swayed by it.
Maybe they realize that they should support candidates that want to end wars not send them to war!
I was voting for him anyway, but going on Rogan was genius. Millions of people got their first actual experience of uncut, non-biased footage of Trump, and I believe it had a huge impact on the election.
“Convicted Felon” 😂
People no longer care what the main stream media and/or celebrities have to say. Period.
Listen to CBC’s Céline: Understood here or wherever you get your podcasts! 🎧
Did we miss any other Céline classics?
Or maybe celebs are just full of it and everyone knows it 🤷♀️
Why is she smiling so much, I think she’s a proud right winger 😂
