How I Find Grunter and Fingermark
Просмотров 5 тыс.11 дней назад
The last fishing session for 2024! There has been some good Grunter and Fingermark about for the past few months, so I thought I'd go out for a quick run while the wind was down and show you how I fish for them. What I'm looking for, bait, rigs and rough location. Our contact details are at the end of the video if you'd like to enquire about coming to stay with us.

AJ brought his son and daughter up for the week from Blackall for their first shot at catching a Barramundi. Check out how their week on the water went here with us. This footage was filmed in October 2024.

@@frankfinlay155 it cooked up well too mate 😋
For me.. they start biting when I open a beer 🍺
@@JamesLawrence-v2w 🤣🤣🤣
What language are they speaking?
English with a mouthful of food 😂 Had to pull the old fella up on his swearing though, he gets a bit excited on the water!
Pump and wind JJ
@@frankfinlay155 yep she’s hectic out here Frank! Will continue to be like that until something is done about these sharks
@NQFishingAdventures are they there all year round ?
@ yep even on public holidays, they don’t take any days off 😤
@NQFishingAdventures 🤣 but no good RU aloud to keep or strictly throw back
@ yeah you can keep them, I think the bag limit is 1 per person or per boat under 1.5m (I could be wrong). You’d bag out in 12 seconds if that was your target species
Wow, speak to text sucks.... My original comment was I noticed you don't have a lot of line spooled up on your back country rig, short casts in and out of those trees. Looks like a productive little estuary right there
@@mattgurin6168 we call this type of fishing ‘snag bashing’. One of my favourite ways to fish. You don’t even need to look at the sounder just go along throwing lures into snags and you could hook any species of any size, then you have the battle of getting them away from the snags. Super fun and exciting way to fish. Yeah this estuary can be very productive most of the time, but there are also times when it goes quiet. One day you might hook 20 good fish then the next day hook 0 at the same location.
@@NQFishingAdventures yep, fish stay on the move. We have something similar here in Florida fishing the mangrove vegetation that runs along the shoreline. I to pitch livies in the gaps and just on the edges of the roots, not sure if you've seen the way mangroves grow along the shore. Definitely can be hyper productive at times
@@mattgurin6168 yeah I’ve seen a video on RUclips of a guy fishing mangroves in Florida catching a fish that we call ‘Mangrove Jack’ (I think you guys call it some type of snapper). Without audio I could have been fooled into thinking it was in Australia as the environment/mangroves and fish looked just like ours. What other species do you get along the mangroves in Florida? Our number 1 most targeted species along the mangroves would have to be our ‘Barramundi’
@NQFishingAdventures we have a lot of species around here, and I am somewhat familiar with different names in australia, species of fish you guys catch.... Your reference to Mangrove snapper is correct and they're all around here. Jack crevalle, ladyfish, mangrove , mutton, juvenile goliath grouper, spotted sea trout, snook ( I target sook the most) , red and black drum - most of which are considered game fish and a lot are tablefare. I don't harvest much out of the estuary and the Indian River lagoon, deaths are intracoastal waterway as I live on a barrier Island. Play fish to eat, so Beach fishing is the best overall. Add pompano, whiting to the list of available species when you're fishing off the beach. Structure of the beach underwater just north of here but mostly it's a Sandy bottom where I fish, very productive especially during the fall and winter months.
Nice, I will have to have a google of those fish to see what they all look like. A lot of people here prefer to fish for Barramundi and Mangrove Jack in the summer/warmer months thinking they don’t really eat in the colder months, but I actually catch just as many and possibly more in the colder months. Just have to use different tactics for them in the colder water.
Nice job pulling him out of those trees, I know that she don't have a whole lot of lines pulled up I guess you just doing short casts with that rig mostly
@@mattgurin6168 yeah I’m usually quite close to the bank/trees with this style of fishing so only short casts
This is why I make lunch 3 times a day 😅
I’m starting to look like I make lunch 6 times a day. Maybe I have to ease up on this theory 😂😂
I love grunter. Great fight. And for chewing, I honestly wouldn't swap it for coral trout. I found squid and prawn together on the hook worked best. Eating quality prawns to. The buggers know their seafood...
@@seanyuke3249 I like making ceviche with coral trout. Will have to give the squid/prawn combo a try next time. Yes they definitely know the difference in quality bait. Have been out before with farmed and wild caught prawns for bait on the same day and they will only take the wild caught prawns.
From that pic u are over the limit
@@Kobe-yf7so 3 people in the photo with the bag limit being 5 per person? 🤷♂️

@@ShaneBrunello no stress as it would have been released anyway being closed season for Barra. Was targeting grunter at the time

Stinking sharks!
@@wadejensen3301 too many of them around these days
How good is that, beautiful fish. Thx for the shoutout brother, made my day!!!
@@martinprice6793 gotta give props where due mate! I would have never thought to use pillies for grunter and Fingermark out there, but there’s a little spot in the bait freezer for them now! Hoping your recovery is coming along well mate and looking forward to hearing you back on the radio this year!
Good clip mate, thanks for the info
Happy to hear that, hopefully it helps you find a few 🎣
grunter for me JJ. Nice fish, and some good info on what ground to look for. Sharks give you to much truoble you can always come mow a lawn
You’re a grunter type of guy Rick! If this wind keeps blowing it might be nicer on the mower this time of year 😳
Nice work mate, two cracking fish for the table. My vote is FM. However, Grunter comes in at a very very close seconded :-)
@@Knightysfishingadventures I seem to change my vote every cook up, I’m stuck 🤷♂️ 😂 I was shocked how evenly split the vote was amongst the recent guests thinking Fingermark would have won in a landslide
Thanks for the great tips! I will be giving this a go when I'm back out on the water.
@@shaneg6245 happy to hear these videos are helpful. I know I appreciated any tips I got along the way, and to be honest I’m still learning more every time I go out on the water and from other people too. Good luck out there 🎣

@@vivianhenningsen1339 haven’t done a lot the past few weeks, trying to catch up on a few jobs I’ve been putting off all year. I did go for a quick fish 2 days before new year tho and got a couple of good fish. I took the GoPro with me and made a little video from that day. Video should be up in the next day or 2 hopefully
Nice pic guys , the fisheries will love that photo . Good effort .
@@janicekapcelovich9565 I’m confused, are you saying the fisheries will love it because we have abided by the rules and regulations?
@NQFishingAdventures No mate , im sure you guys are abiding by the regulations . Its just that every time i see photos of loads of fish i think of the fisheries guys who set the bag limits . I will check out your video tomorrow , they look like good grunter . Cheers .
@ no worries. The fish in the pic are Barramundi, we couldn’t find the Grunter on this day 😞 I hear what you’re saying, but I think the regulators will use photos from both sides of the scale to back their rulings. My understanding is that the new bag limit regulations on Spanish Mackerel comes from evidence on lower catches in recent years. Thank you for your comment, much appreciated 🎣

Hey mate it's Rhylan, just wondering if the savage gear squad baitcaster combo is any good.
@@RRFishingAdventures hey mate I haven’t actually used that combo yet. What are you fishing for and what’s your budget?
@@NQFishingAdventures mostly barra, jack, flathead, whiting and bream. My budget is $200-$300
@@RRFishingAdventures I recently got a couple of Abu Garcia revo x 5 combos for just over $200 each that I’m quite happy with. I haven’t owned any savage rods or reels so I can’t really comment if I think they are good or not. If you do go ahead with the savage combo, let me know how it goes. @@ReddestofDogs love it when a bullsh!t plan works out 😂
Great idea, cheaper than boga grips I use one of the cheaper original fish grips about $55 work well
@@ozfishwa lip grip are great I still use them, especially for teethy fish like jacks. I’ve just seen a few pairs of them take off into the water on the end of fish lips which is heartbreaking not only losing them but knowing the fish will die.
Noticed a different way of bleeding your fish at around the 23 minute mark, seemed a lot easier. Does this cut the gill rakers in a better place?
@@ozfishwa if I don’t have a kill bin in the boat, I cut 2 little slits under their bottom lip to put my fingers in for a better grip when bleeding over the side of the boat so I don’t lose the fish if it kicks. I don’t recommend using this method for fish with teeth though 😂
