Tried to watch this with my mom, but she fell asleep because she always falls asleep to movies that arent suspense. She even fell asleep to Nope and Pan's Labyrinth. But I know this about her and always did so I was kinda shooting myself in the foot, making her watch EEAAO. When she woke up, she asked me, "I fell asleep. What happened?" And I explained to her it was about an immigrant mother trying, failing, and trying again to connect to her daughter, no matter what, she just smiled at me and I knew that I didn't really need to watch the movie with her.

The film score was a huge standout for me. On occasion it accented the fantastical elements of the film in ways that reminded me of Danny Elfman’s scores of the early 2000’s Tim Burton films
