    I bought a house with a bar in it. It wasn't a great bar, but I jazzed it up and added a bunch of bottles of everything, thinking it would be a great social room for friends. It seems none of our friends are drinking like they used to. So now I have a lot of liquor we will never drink. 😕

    Secondary market sellers are getting most of their items from distributors, unfortunately - not flipping bottles. Keep in mind, flippers are competing with drinkers and hoarders. The reality is such that distributors scalp at least half of allocated bottles to the secondary.

    I don't think this was mentioned.........but Georgetown, strategically, is a very important and smart choice. And rather odd that no one picked it prior. Georgetown is where the most famous story of Bourbon's creation took place. As Elijah Craig reputedly first developed it at Royal Spring around 1800. Hes at least the first guy on record to use charred oak barrels in making his whiskey. So it has a reputation for being the "Birthplace of Bourbon." Blue Run is going to use Royal Spring as their water base. So they would be the only distillery using the water source of the original Bourbon. In addition, Georgetown sits on TWO national Interstates. Interstates that link it to cities such as St. Louis, Miami, Cincinatti, Detroit, Louisville, and Atlanta. These guys aren't plopping that 50 million down for nothing. They obviously have a smart marketing gameplan. It may be a gamble, but its the CORRECT gamble.

      @@WeeklyWhiskey No problem, its a pleasure. I wanted to add one more thing. Given that they literally named Blue Run in reference to Royal Spring......i have to think that Georgetown was ALWAYS gonna be their Phase 2, if Phase 1 was successful enough. But i understand building right off the bat was gonna be too risky. They had to play with the product itself first.

    I bought this last night and have had three pours so far. Each one gets worse. The upper pallet has a lot of bitter/sour, the middle is Ok, and then it finishes with a chemically turpentine note. I don’t get any of the oak influenced Carmel you guys are talking about. I couldn’t even finish my glass this afternoon. I really enjoy Larceny, Willet, Regier (my fave), and even tho I’m not a rye guy, 6yr and 10 yr Pig is awesome. Is there a such thing as getting a bad bottle? I really had big hopes about this bottle.

    • @WeeklyWhiskey
      @WeeklyWhiskey Год назад

      Sure there's definitely a chance for a "bad bottle" but it's also just possible this one wasn't for you. It's worth noting that this is a blend of MGP bourbon and WhistlePig's own bourbon. If you have had other 6+ year bourbon from MGP and liked it, this may be indicative that the WhistlePig Bourbon itself isn't something you dig. Thanks for sharing! Cheers 🥃

      I had the same experience. Maybe my taste buds are different. I'm still developing my niche. The best tasting straight for me so far are High West (normal bourbon not Campfire or anything else) and small batch 4 Rose's. I also enjoy Elijah, Knob Creek (Rye as well) among a few others. I've yet to dabble into higher end blends of any distiller. Whenever I name something, I mean something you can basically pick off the shelf anywhere. I'm curious to try the Evan Williams Bottled in Bond for $22. A risk, but I'm simply curious.

  • @JD-qh3sd
    @JD-qh3sd Год назад

    And no one asked why this is not a STRAIGHT bourbon. I'm curious. Straight bourbons can't have additives such as flavorings or colorings. Does Piggyback bourbon have additives?

    • @WeeklyWhiskey
      @WeeklyWhiskey Год назад

      If the label says "bourbon" it cannot have additives or flavoring added to it. The "straight" designation (in reference to bourbon) would indicate that it is over four years old; or, of course, over two years old but bearing an age-statement if less than four. Good point, though, and something that rye drinkers should also pay attention to--as rye is not legally protected in the same way as bourbon. Thanks for watching! 🥃

    I paid for a pour of the lot b. I really liked it. I didnt like it enough to pay secondary prices. To make matters worse, the "pappy influence " has inflated the prices of Weller. I dont know if the distributors are to blame or if Buffalo Trace is feeding the problem for profit. The biggest contributing factor is the thise who will pay the exorbitant prices. Why does Buffalo Trace keep creating nee versions of Weller? This takes away from their ability to meet the demand for the products that use the wheated mash bill. Why are they exporting these highly allocated bottles? Why not cut production of the 20 and 23 year old bottles. That way there would be more 10, 12, and 15 year bottles. Maybe the 3 teir system needs to be altered. Why not let the producers have input as to where the bottles are shipped? Send all the 10 year to one set of states. Send all the 12 year to another set and so on. Then rotate every year. The biggest thing that needs to happen is for the consumers to unite and stop buying. This would not only stick it to the flippers, it would get the attention of the producers

    • @WeeklyWhiskey
      @WeeklyWhiskey Год назад

      For what it's worth, Buffalo Trace has invested $1.2B in expanding. In 2022 they released press info describing how they have increased their products to consumers by 50%. Of course, that doesn't mean there is 50% more Pappy Van Winkle (or Weller, Eagle Rare, Blanton's, etc.) on the shelves or anything like that. I feel like your sentiment of consumers who are willing to pay whatever the price of admission is just to have something rare are contributing more than their share to continually push hype (read: increase demand and decrease supply). Thanks for watching, and for taking the time to share your thoughts. We appreciate it more than we can describe! Cheers, -John 🥃
