In this video we answer the question “Is my General Lee show correct?” in respect to the interior! As you’ll see, there are things that are, things that will be and some things that won’t ever be (due to my restomod plans for the General Lee in the future).

The Brown dash is factory. Not all saddle interior cars had a brown dash. Mine did. I have tried and tried to research why some cars came with a brown dash. But I love it
@@NortheastOhioDukes that’s awesome to know! Is that why I’ve seen some cars that have a brown upper door panel as well? It is interesting, and I think it looks fantastic too!💪
It looks terrible but for the show they just spray bombed the whole interior generic tan. There were so many cars used the only economical way to make them match was to spray paint them all
@@stevehenson5737 yep! The early GA cars that I’m trying to replicate though (especially Lee 3) actually had the factory saddle tan, so that’s why that is my goal for mine. But you’re totally right, they just sprayed them so it could be seen as tan when going by on camera💪

15:29 ok about the stainless steel trim around side window to back ! i know that seasons 1, 5, 6,7 had it as a permanant part of the General lee ............. but i was tryin to remember if seasons 2,3 and 4 had it without the steel trim ? i also know that the animated series , TV Reunion movies and the 2005 and 2007 movies didn't have the stainless steel trim either ! apparantly it was removed due to rust issues ??? not sure if that was true or not ?

As far as the reverse lights you are correct if it’s during the first 3 seasons if you see one with out the reverse lights it’s a 68 however when WB took over building the General lees in house they removed the side marker lights on every 68 and 69 and the reverse lights on every 69. They stayed that way till the show ended. The first episode of the WB General lees is goodbye General Lee . So from that episode on the only real way to tell a 68 from a 69 is if the dash was pointed it’s a 68 if it’s smooth across it’s a 69
@@Jeremey72 yep, spot on man, thanks for the comment!! I was just comparing mine to the GA era cars and can easily get too far off track with some of the information, so I tried to be brief in this series: there are times where I think I mention too much though 😂. Charger R/T on the head light door & on the back between the tail lights looks alot better.....tho it wasn't on the Georga cars
@@aaronland1783 I hear ya! If I built a Charger that wasn’t a General Lee, I’d definitely keep all of the original factory emblems, because they do look good💪. I’d do one in the red that mine was before he became the General Lee, I’d even add the stainless rocker molding like Lee 1 had and keep all of the Charger emblems too.
Dirty Marry Crazy Larry did it 4 me Charger wise
@ I love the Charger in that one. It builds up a rage of anger that they destroyed it (same for me with the Dukes of Hazzard as well). Gorgeous car though!
Kinda wrong Lee 3 had its R/T badges still on the grill, bur they were painted black You can see them in the Griffith Park promotional photos
Great video! I love it. I learned a few things I'm definitely going to look into mounting the horns under the washer bottle. I think that's a much better place. Now, you also have me questioning about the front license plate bracket if I want to put it on or not. New Hampshire requires a front license plate, so it's probably better if I do put it on. Looking forward to watching the rest of the series. Thanks for the photo credit! Jeff @restoringmy69dodgrcharger (a.k.a. 603GeneralLee) You rock!💪💪💪🔥🔥🔥
Not bad but the interior of the Duke's General Lee was tan (or fawn).
@@YippeeSkippie426 thanks for watching and I appreciate it man, stay tuned for part 4 where I do a deep dive into the interior and my future plans for the interior change 💪. They used at least two (possibly 3) interior colors: factory saddle tan, and a light beige color on the later cars. Also, there’s a discussion about a darker brown color on some of the cars too in the earlier seasons. I may do a video on that as well in the future. But you’re right: it needs to be tan for sure 🤙
The Color is wrong to red
@@Bob-cd5pp well, what’s wild is that Mopar Hemi Orange has “orange” in the name, but has red in it. The opposite is true of Corvette Flame Red: it is actually orange but has the word red in the name! My car currently is the Mopar color which has more red in it: so I’ll correct that to the actual orange color eventually, despite it having “red” in the name💪. So you’re correct, and I’ll fix it when I get the resources to do so! Thanks for watching!
the color is wrong its a TandT EXPRESS ORANGE ,,,THE DID A COLOR MATCH A FEW YEARS AGO
@@dye1429 thanks for the comment man💪. I address that in the video and offer my reasons as to why it scanned for that color and why the real color (at least on the first three General Lees ever built) were Hemi Orange and then repainted 1975 Corvette Flame Red. Check it out and let me know what you think🤙
Look up travis bell ,he did a color match of the original car from georgia
@ I did, I even mention that in this video and there’s a link to his video in the description below this one, and I give reasons as to why it scanned the way it scanned and why it’s actually 1975 Corvette Flame Red 💪
oh, yea, that is correct if you are a member of a failed attempt to overthrow of the United States. fascist
Actually, this comment demonstrates why reading history with a careful eye is important. The South did no such thing. The North aggressively invaded their homelands and they had to defend it. Some great resources on the topic that contain arguments/evidences that I have found to be very solid are as follows: The Real Lincoln and When in the Course of Human Events. Both of those contain a great assessment of the evidence associated with the Civil War. Both sides were racist and desired slavery, the South fought for secession and on that point they were correct!
@@GLRESTOMOD read you own articles of confederation of each state that became traitors to the United States of America. The whole lost cause theory is a bunch of bunk, and your own papers prove it. every one of them said they were about slavery and not the economic reasons you use as an excuse. in Texas, the acritical said, "it is our god given right" do you have a god given right to own people?

It looks spot on. I just don’t see the beige rollbar. I’ve painted four Generals in my life and I hope to own one someday. Looks badsss regardless.🔥
@@embee1973 thanks a million 💪. Yeah, my interior is no where near show correct (that will be Part 4 of this series🤙) and because the color is wrong I haven’t yet installed a roll bar: but it’s definitely in the plans. That’s awesome you’ve painted some General Lees! My hat’s off to people who can do that type of work, very impressive!
No matter what color you paint it, it’s going to look awesome but for me personally I’ve got to side with John, he was there, he lived it but in saying that, no matter what the base color was , no matter the mutt mixed paint Ill have to believe that TNT Express is the closest match color to the original General Lee, Lee #1. Not the other early cars but particularly to the first Orange General Lee. Now pick your poison 😂
Thanks again for watching💪. I appreciate it! Well, I only have a few caveats with John’s testimony, despite him being there: one is that there have been things he has been wrong on in the past that we have photographs of to show it wasn’t how he remembered it (he’s absolutely not a liar and seems like a very sincere guy, just mistaken, and we’ve all been there before). Also, Jon Holland spoke with Henry Holman and he was a Corvette guy. The Hemi Orange was too red for television, so he knew that 1975 Corvette Flame Red was a true orange: he had all three of the first General Lees repainted 1975 Corvette Flame Red, despite them arriving from CA in Hemi Orange. That’s according to the testimony of the man in charge of the operation of painting the cars. So while John and Henry were both there, Henry made the decision on the color of the cars. Both are extremely good colors, and very close to one another. Again, the paint scan can yield different results even when using the same color paint and the same batch of paint, especially if the color underneath was different: so I’m a Corvette Flame Red guy for those reasons. However, both colors are very close to one another, and I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference if the two were parked next to each other😂. So any orange that one decides to use is a fantastic choice and wouldn’t be like “That’s not correct!” I think any of those colors are somewhat correct and I completely understand why some people go with TN, Corvette Flame Res, Hemi Orange, Big Bad Orange, etc. and I think they all look great to be honest💪 Thanks again for the conversation, love talking about this stuff 💪
TNT express was never even mentioned by the builders as a color they used. Travis bell says it’s tnt then everybody wants to believe him. The original roof off Lee 1 scanned corvette flame. The first 3 general lees was first painted hemi orange then repainted corvette flame by H&H in Georgia
@ agreed! However, I think the paint scan did yield the TNT color: but like I mentioned room in the video, the car could have been painted Corvette Flame Red (and I’m convinced it was) and based upon what color was underneath it will scan a different color than what it was painted. I’m in full agreement with you 💪
@@GLRESTOMOD tnt is very very close to corvette flame it’s just another one of Travis scams to get people to believe him. When I built mine Tom Sarmento told me himself corvette flame was the color they used the most and sometimes they did mix up colors when they was in a hurry and running low on paint. Yea paint colors and scans can change depending on what color is underneath. So when the builders actually say this is what they used I’m going with that.
@@Jeremey72 you and me both! I totally agree! Once I’m in a position to do a repaint I’m definitely going with the 1975 Corvette Flame Red 🔥🔥🔥

@@randyravage7873 You nailed it, lol, except l cover the roll bar in part four where I discuss the interior💪. As far as the color goes, both are close and would look incredible, but I’m a 1975 Corvette Flame Red kinda guy: as you can tell from the video😂). Keep us updated on your progress!

@@tyclark97 thanks for watching man! On the Sure Grip, I may or may not do it. Expense is one reason, but another reason is the restomod plans for my build down the road. The restomod build will only happen if my funds significantly increase 😂. Having said that, once that happens I’ll swap out the rear end completely for something super heavy duty and reliable (I’ve looked at the mini spool, but just they seem more for drag racing and have some other draw backs antithetical to my long term build plans) I’m looking at several options on the rear end once the resources are there. QA1 is a fantastic company. I’ve researched their products and I also may do a video on Mopar aftermarket suspension options and cover their advantages and disadvantages depending on what type of build one is doing. Looks great!
There’s nothing wrong with the factory wiring or the bulkhead. Actually the factory style harnesses being built now uses the same type of wiring that the AAW uses, GXL and a lot of the wiring is even the same gauge, not all of it. The problem with the factory harnesses is now they’re 55 years old and people not understanding how low amp alternators, ammeter setup and overcharging did to the bulkhead and wiring way back then. Even the new AAW has a bulkhead. It’s just a newer style GM bolt up. I do like the AAW, despite what AAW says you can’t use it on a 70 Charger, it’s a completely different beast on the wiring set up but you can do the exact same thing with a Factory M&H harness as you can an AAW harness except the M&H is a plug and play. You’ll have at least over 50 hours in wiring that AAW I’m guessing.I’ve got, EFi, Vintage Air, Dakota Digital, Vacuum pump, Electric Fans and a big radio. I’ve ran them all at once a lot with a 1 wire 160 amp powermaster alternator with Zero issues. I mean it hasn’t fried the 16 gauge fusible link yet 😂😂😂 I’m guessing the AAW would be a way better option for the Hellcat/Gen 3 crowd. Let me know if you need any help with anything. Another great video.
@@thechestnutking736 I appreciate your input! I’m actually one of those guys who thinks the factory setup, when done correctly and as intended, is actually great! However, I realize now I wasn’t clear enough in the video that I’m wanting to ultimately do things beyond what the car was engineered for: hence my desire for those specific aftermarket parts. I’ll do a video in the future about my ultimate restomod plans and what options I’m considering depending on what my future resources may be. I am planning on a Gen 3 Hemi and some other upgrades, hence the AAW harness being best for application long term. I also want the amp gauge delete and go with a volt meter, hence the Dakota Digital upgrade and AAW harness. That’s great to know about the AAW and the 1970 Chargers! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment: this is helpful! Once I’m in a position to rewire the car I may need to reach out, as I’m less than a novice on this stuff, but I love to learn and usually can figure things out. While daunting, I’d love to rewire it myself! I’ll even do a full video series on it! That 50 hours number is VERY helpful! I figure it will take me much longer, especially with me being a novice and filming it all at the same time😂💪😂. Thanks again man, appreciate your help!
@@GLRESTOMODYou’re welcome buddy. I’ll advise you buy a very good crimper also, AAW probably sells a good one. I told AAW about the wiring differences in the 70 when they first came out with this option and they had no clue 70 was different than 68/69. As far as the hidden headlight set up and ignition. I could have figured it out, but it would’ve took way too much work.

@ thanks for watching and commenting! I say “safer” because I plan on straying from what the factory engineered the car for. The factory setup when duplicated as they intended it is a safe setup for sure. All the upgrades and changes I’m going to do in the future ensure that I’ll need to change out the wiring, etc. If one stays factory they certainly can be daily drivers, as that’s what they were when new, and untold millions of dollars were spent to ensure that: within power and chassis limits, that I plan on exceeding and upgrading based on my specific requirements for how I intend to use the car.
