LREQ - Beautiful Soul (Live at CNote Jazz Club) Selmer Supreme
Luis, you sound amazing on both, but I like your mid range MUCH more on the VI. In 5 years, when the Supreme's really depreciate- Yes. Right now- No.
Poppin!
10m all day !!!
It sounds like the Supreme seals better, probably by virtue of being a new horn. Otherwise, they sound remarkably similar. I like that your demo included improv as well as playing the head of the tune, and the quieter dynamics were nicely covered. I could use more loud playing to hear how the horn responds when asked to project a bit. Overall, nice demo!
Nice playing Luis, what mouthpiece are you using and how is the Supreme tenor since the video you compared to a VI. Cheers
Thanks! That's a SKMouthpiece Omnis 7*
🔥🎷🔥
Bad to the Bone Luis. Nice work by everyone. Your base player is outstanding.
Much appreciated!
yeah!!!
Cooooomo!
Demencia pura !!
Vaya! Gracias! Saludos!
Beautiful sound on your tenor. Beautiful vibe in the music. Stay on it. Peace.
Thanks!
Nice, Luis
Thanks!
Everyone keeps talking about MkVI sound. But it's the fingerboard that's WAY better than anything else. I tried the VII when it came out, and the fingerboard sucked compared to a VI. Just like EVERY other horn.
The ergonomics are very comfortable and the horn responds well and mostly in tune. At least is the most in tune horn I've ever played.
Lindo, lindo, lindo! Me encanta tu sonido y lenguaje al improvisar! Calmado, dejando espacio y melódico al improvisar! Grande Maestro! 👍🏼👍🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🇵🇷🇵🇷
Thanks!
For me, any selmer is 10,000 times better than any Yanagisawa. Selmer can work in any style. The sound of all Yanagisawa saxophones is strange, in a bad way. The selmer sound is a stylish, cool, recognizable, understandable sound.
I find the Yanis sound a bit spread. But very well built horns.
@@larodmusic I wrote this comment a long time ago, but nothing has changed for me. This year I bought a Yamaha purple logo 62 saxophone. I think it's a good tool for a reasonable price. I like it more than modern yamaha or other modern tools. Yanagisawa is always a bad tool for me, for me, the best yamaha 62 purple logo is only selmer.
the 6 sounds so much better
Great to really hear the Supreme at last - Bravo!
Thank you!
Great playing Luis. Thank you.
Thanks!
Yamaha custom Z , yanagisawa two or selmer?
Get rid of the snare drum !
hehe
Selmer has cracked it with the supreme. In a blind test even experts would have difficulty telling which one is which. And on top, better intonation and more reliable modern mechanics. I’m buying one.
I love my Supreme, so much easier to play.
SALUDOS A TODOS USTEDES CON TODO MI CORAZÓN LES MANDO MUCHAS BENDICIONES Y SALUD Y LOS SALUDO DESDE 🇲🇽🍄🐕 GUADALAJARA JALISCO 🐕
Gracias! Un abrazo!
I love your sound on both, but I'm guessing with your skills, you could make anything sound great. What mouthpiece and reed are you using here?
Wow, thank you! That's a Theo Wanne GAIA 8, reeds are probably Rigotti 3.5
Absolutely beautiful! 🎷🙏🎷🙏🎷
Many thanks!
Hard to tell until I play one myself. I really like your sound on soprano and was wondering what the name of the tune was that you were playing so beautifully.
Hi, the name pf the tune is “Shining”
Luis, where did you get this playalong from? sounds really good.
Is a JA play-along if I recall correctly!
I’ve been thinking about this yani to buy one of those. How do they compare ergonomic with each other? About blowing it’s more free blowing yani of the vi one? Which one in your opinion most fit for you? Thank you so much for answering those questions made by a student player!
Yanis are amazing horns, ergonomically they are second to none. It is more free blowing than a MVI or even a supreme. IMO they are more forgiving than a MVI and more in tune. Is you are a beginner I would suggest the Yanni.
@@larodmusic much appreciated!
Thanks for your comment!
Very good comparison. The six is more centered darker and defined in tone. The problem with the new horns is that individual sound is taking a hit because it seems like every person that plays the new horns sounds very much alike. Yes it is the selmer sound but lacking the character to some extent of the individuals unique tone. Is this a good thing or bad thing? Only time will tell.
I do feel is a bit harder to make it sound like you want. Is more in tune and even but that’s trade off of a new horn IMO. What I can say after playing the Supreme for several months is that now finally I can speak with my voice, it took me quite a while to get used to, you have to unlearn all the habits you build on a vintage horn (which is what gives them character).
Mark 6 sounds way better, but the Yani isn't bad either
I love my Yanni, amazing horns.
Supreme sounds great. In my experience, vintage horns sound more like the human voice to the player- though there may not be that much a difference to the listener.
They do have a certain distinct voice.
NO MÁS 👏💯💯👏👏👏🍄🇲🇽💞🌷 QUÉ TEMASO HERMOSA MÚSICA 🎵🎼 Y HERMOSA INTERPRETACIÓN SALUDOS DESDE 🇲🇽 GUADALAJARA JALISCO GRÁCIAS 🙏🌷🐕. GRÁCIAS
Im in high school and just starting to learn how to play saxophone can you give me tips on your embouchure and how to blow into it correctly?
Thank you for writing! Well, I cannot give you specific advise without seeing you play. But I can say that is important to keep your embouchure relaxed, it shouldn’t hurt playing the saxophone. Long tones are important when starting with the saxophone, they help develop the muscles in your mouth and help getting that air column where it needs to be.
Hello. Beautiful sound. Which mouthpiece and reed are you using?
That was a Theo Wanne GAIA 7*
Hi. What neck were you using on the Yani ? Sounded great. Just bought one myself. Beautiful sound. Tried a MVI in the same week. Found the Yani to have better intonation control. How did you find it. ?
Hi, I was playing the stock neck.
O me encanta sax alto 🎷 feliz día linda voz .
🎇🎷👍
Toca muito irmao
Thanks!
great playing
Is that the original MkVI neck?
Yes!
Beautiful soulful sound and excecution. May I ask your mouthpiece and reed setup. What horn were you using before the Supreme? Thanks for the video.
Hi, thanks for your comment! That is a 7* Otto Link Florida 100th worked by SKMouthpieces. The reed is a DAddario Select Jazz 4s. Before the Supreme I was using a Selmer MVI 66k (1956).
Most soulful play. The Selmer supreme is sounding great. What mouth piece and Reed you are using
@@dileepnaik1312 Otto Link Florida 100th 7*, DAddario Jazz Select Filed 4s
Beautifully done, Luis. Sounds very Houston Person-ish, whom I love and work to emulate on tenor myself.
Beautiful, nothing wrong with that. Nice work.
the neck don't look like mark 6.
Hi, that neck is a BSS Heritage Neck.
Thanks for your comment!
Thanks for your comment!
Selmer M6 sounds warmer and rounder.. yani sounds brighter. I prefer the M6, but both are magnifique!
Thanks!
I look forward to all of the pro players ditching their MK VI's for this, so I can finally get one at a reasonable price (lol, I wish). I think most people don't realize the imperfections of the SBAs/MKVI/MKVIIs are the reason they sound so interesting, this horn sounds great, and modern horn tech makes playing them infinitely better. but you're arguing what's better, a vintage Ferrari sports car or a modern Porsche, both have their reasons why people love them, they don't need to try to replace each other.
