Not a PB lap at Sonoma (2:00.94) TrackMasters 7/13/24
Просмотров 14615 дней назад
This was my first time running with the Trackmasters Racing organization for a track day event. I was in the Mixed group. Although I didn't get a new PB by the end of the day, I practiced a lot of open passing. Will come back for a PB next time! 💪 Setup: 2023 Toyota GR86 in 86 Challenge Stock Class Tires & Wheels: • GT Radial CHAMPIRO SX2 (225/45ZR17) • Apex Wheels VS-5RS (17x8 40) Mods: • CSG ...

This was my best track day at Laguna Seca so far! Not only did I improve and learn new things throughout the day, but I could keep shaving off time and reach a new PB in the last session. Finally, I got a new PB after the re-pavement on the dry surface. Before this, my PB in the Miata ND was ~6 seconds slower (ruclips.net/video/Hmuw48TY3B8/видео.html). This was my 1st time driving the 13CCW configuration and running with NASA. New track, New PB :D I loved each classroom/download meeting after the first 3 sessions, where the lead instructor was talking about driving techniques, doing reflections with us, and calling out the car numbers and drivers who did sketchy things out there. …(⊙_⊙;)… This event was actually covered by the "Toyota GR Trac...

This was my 1st time bringing the GR86 here! Before this, I drove my ND2 Miata here with the same tires, and my PB was 2:16.21 back then (ruclips.net/video/xsa2OLjuNvg/видео.html). A slow PB is still a PB, even though I wasn't happy about it. (╯-_-)╯~╩╩ This PB lap was with everything OFF and was the 3rd lap of the day. I went off 3 times in total at the Sweeper and near the Truck Stop... (I st...

Hi there, how did you get the screen to display lap time delta? Is that using a cable from the pixel 2 running race chromo app? Have you also got oil pressure info?
@@grblue-86 stay tuned for the app. 😉 I don’t get oil pressure info. I know other 86 friends got that logged with extra wires and sensors
Sure thing, I will subscribe to get notified. Cheers
Holy shit that looked fun until that lol but iv never drifted before I thought it'd look alot faster from inside lol. that's cool the
Miata looks lil angy
So sick dude great driving
You were flyin well done !
Aww❤
I was in the NSX. Glad I moved out of the way during my cooldown so you could do a flyer. 0:40
@@danieltiet7491 aww thank you so much Daniel!! That was a perfect point-by 🤝🙌😆 Couldn’t have done it without your help!
What's that timer on your infotainment screen?
I was testing a WIP app 🤓 stay tuned…
If you like drifting and want to go faster, you can try four wheel drifting. It’s very hard, but it’s the fastest way to go around a corner. Just search up what it is.
Smooth operator as usual!
😹😹😹
100 degrees oof. What was that car that you let pass? Looks like an old American car or something
😅 it’s a Pontiac Fiero: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_Fiero
Rotation through T2 looks nice. Great lap finished off with a fist pump at the end!
🥹🙌thank you Brian! Love driving T2 when I could hit the 2nd apex lol
wow this looks insanely hard.
😂this direction? Definitely felt weird!
Very nice driving!! Why two RaceBox's though - redundancy?
Sally, this is a great video. I tell all of my students to watch it. Hope all is well. Lou G
how much camber were you able to get out of the new eccentric bolts?
-2.4 and -2.7 on both sides. Then just dialed both to -2.4…
@@yuzuracing I did .2 more on the rear in my Miata as well. Good for learning but eventually you gotta back off that ratio
@@tealchief 🤔ohh the numbers I meant were for my 86’s front ones. The rear ones were not changed. For my miata I remember the alignment also gave -2.4 front but I had -2.0 for rear ones. I didn’t install karcept camber bushings before selling the car which could add -1.1 more…
I have a question for you. Which car is more fun to drive? I'm torn between the two.
Both are fun to drive as a daily, on canyon roads, at autocross and on racetracks. 😆I’d say miata ND2 is lighter and more nimble. It’s my favorite daily and autocross choice! But 86 is way more practical for family usage and more comfortable for longer road trips. If you love drifting, get the 86, with the longer wheelbase it’s way easier to initiate one. 🥹 ND3 would have a similar track mode as the 86, so the track driving could be more predictable if you want some nannies.
@@yuzuracing Thanks! so, if practicality was a non issue, you would say ND2 is more fun to drive right?
@@mptboi7284 yeah 🥹 also if I’d pick an ND again I’d do a soft top. However, there was no event/community like 86 Challenge for miatas. That’s one of the reasons I switched too 🥹
nice
ND?)
Yeah 😅
Oh no!! Thank you for your lawn services!! Haha! Jk
😂😂
Did you have any trouble meeting tech inspection rollover requirements with an RF at tracks in California? It's the one thing that I'm worried about moving to CA, if I'll be able to keep tracking my car without a rollbar
Hey 👋, so I never had a problem with tech inspections but it’s really up to you to trust the factory RF protection. I’ve run with Hooked on Driving, SpeedSF, Speed Ventures and they were okay with me in most groups. No open passing group for RFs with SpeedSF. And even at the Miata Reunion hotlap sessions at Sonoma Raceway, RFs could only run up to the Low Intermediate group. FWIW, PCA and SCCA don’t approve tracking the RF w/o an after market rollbar. 🥹Good luck!
@@yuzuracing Thank you so much for the detailed response! this is incredibly helpful
Great drive! I saw ur car at laguna that rainy day in Feb and loved the stickers u have on the rear bumper lol. And now yt is recommending me ur video :D I noticed u also using racebox, what software are you using for the telemetry overlay? I'm having trouble finding a good one...
Heyy 😆 please stop by and say Hi next time! But hope to see you soon at another event. The overlay is from RaceChrono. :)
@@yuzuracinghaha, was too shy last time. The rolling shots were great!!
gratuitous burnouts?
😂😂
😮
🤦♀
did you leave the nannys on?
I used the Track Mode (traction control partially off)
👏👏👏👏👏
Nice driving! I actually just got myself a Racebox Mini, and was wondering what you were using to mount it in the car?
Yay niiice! I love my Racebox Mini :D I got this Joby suction cup (joby.com/us-en/suction-cup-and-gorillapod-arm-jb01329-bww/) and sticked it to the windshield on my passenger side.
Awesome driving!! I have yet to experience Laguna in the wet; it looks like so much fun!
Thank you! Yes it's sketchy but fun 😂
Nice lap!! How is it I almost never run into you guys anymore?? 😅
Right? 😂Maybe Laguna next month???
@@yuzuracing 24th Lightspeed??
oh no lol 17th SpeedSF/86 Challenge@@needsadjustin
@@yuzuracing whomp whomp 😂🤣😂
Looks lots of fun! Are you running an oil cooler or just the OE heat exchanger?
Not yet 😅just the OE one
Yay! Lfg! Nice work!
Thank you Joe!! Congrats on your recent Sub 2!!
Is your front right wheel bent?
Brian helped me jack the car and we checked by rotating the tire: 🛞 seemed fine with only a small scratch…
Awesome!!!
Thank you Joe!! ☺️
This is terrifying
Any issues running HPDE in an RF without a roll bar? I've done 5 HPDE in my GTI, planning on ND2 next year but with rollbar you lose the functioning top. Have you had any issues with the organizers running an RF?
I remember emailing and checking on the policy of SCCA/NASA that they would not allow the RF to run their track day events without an aftermarket roll bar. I really wanted one that's SCCA-approved and still keep the RF function. :( Most clubs are fine with me using the stock RF protection till Intermediate groups. e.g. For the upcoming Miata Reunion at Sonoma Raceway this Oct, w/o an aftermarket roll bar, I could only stay in as high as their Low Intermediate group...
@@yuzuracing thanks, looks like you looked into all the options. There was a post on the Miata forums I'm sure you read by Dr. Chase about a custom rollbar done in socal that retains RF but you lose a few inches of seat travel (I'm 6' so not doable). If I switch to ND2 next year it would be my first manual so I probably would work my way up from beginner and wouldn't be a problem for awhile. My brain says ST but I really just love how the RF looks
@@DriverMD23 I'd get the club with the Brembo, then do either the harddog or BBFW roll bar, brake fluid, pads, tires, and you are basically all set to just run for a long time. if you go ST you'll need an LSD and upgraded brake for track soon, which will cost $3-4k in total at least. Although the upgraded LSD and brake will be better than the OEM ones on the club trim
@@DriverMD23 Yeah I actually installed the ND Miata Seat Lowering Bracket for my driver's seat as I'm 5'10 and wouldn't fit comfortably wearing a helmet with top up. LOL it worked well! This ND2 is also my first manual :) And I love the ND Miata community. RF looks cool but if you are very committed to doing more track days, I'd say ST gives you better protections.
@@yuzuracing嗯,同意,back to back第二天确实好很多。
Cool video, I was there for that track day in the Green group it was so much fun, I will be back next year.
