Dieter plays his Martin DM with the K&K TriStar Pro System. He is using a heavy Dunlop 206 pick. The sound-feed is recorded directly into Pro Tools and some reverb was added. This system features the Pure Mini pickups with the internal TriStar preamp that allows individual volume adjustment of the 3 Pure Mini transducers.

This is Rafi, Dieter found him as a kitten on the tennis-court. He was badly injured and needed 3 surgeries, but he is doing great now. Since he now picked up the guitar, he will make up for the initial expense in no time. Rafi is one of of K&K's office kitties and spends at least half the day in Dieter's office. He plucks the strings with his teeth, just like Jimmy Hendrix did...

A single from Munju's 1984 album Le Perfectionniste. "Spion" means "spy" in German, hence the shades and trench coats. This video features a single-take live studio recording. Dieter Kaudel on guitar, Wolfgang Salomon on bass, Thomas Römer on drums. The album version was slightly modified and includes a second guitar. An original composition by Dieter Kaudel.

My experience with blends is that, instead of enhancing they take away some of the strength of individual pickups. This is not only for K&K systems btw. It is because a blend results in a rather convoluted eq spectrum. I have often entered the blend world hopung f the best of both worlds but achieving the opposite. I am a fan of the K&K Pure mini. Coupled with a K&K preamp still the best 'natural' system for me. Nothing gets in the way but you have to dig in a little deeper to get a good result when playing fingerstyle. It is simply not as direct as either a UST or a mag. So it depends on your skill level.
Hello I would also like to install an acoustic pickup in my Ibanez AG95QA-DBS. If I remove the bridge humbucker Super 58, then I can invisibly install an acoustic pickup inside under the bridge. The guitar is archtop and hollow inside. I wanted to install the K&K Pure Mini Western. Can you recommend this one or do I need a different acoustic pickup? greeting Reinhold

Actually I found this video informative about the system but a very poor example of how it sounds. I'm a straight finger picker in the styles of Jorma, Roy Bookbinder, Keb Mo', Tommy Emmanuelle, Taj Mahal.... the tapping clicking of percussion and tap style playing just isnt a good example of how the pickup sounds for a strummer or finger picker which is how most of us play acoustics. .... On to try to find an example of how this system sounds .......

If you use both How do you route the wiring through one end pin???
It's a single trs(stereo cable). So one cable. From there it goes into a stereo preamp with a volume control for each pickup. A standard 1/4" cable out of the preamp and into an amp or the board or into and amp and then the board, or however you want to amplify it. I have been using it for about 5 years (well over a thousand times)and its the best sound I have been able to get from a pickup. And I have tried a lot of high end options. You can even flip open the lid of the preamp and fine tune the bass mid treble and gain of each pickup! It would be cool if K and K made a rechargeable version or mod. It only runs on 9 volts which keeps it isolated and quite but I always have to keep a lot of batteries on hand in case. it will run on a dead battery but the gain is much lower. Sorry, way more than what you asked for! I love it

I am so dissatisfied with the onboard ES2 pickup/preamp system on my new Taylor 414ce. I am about ready to pull the trigger on the K&K Double Helix/pure mini.
Charlie fitted a K&K to my 12 string....Good system. Should have got the pre amp aswell though.

Could double sided tape be used? to later remove the transducer without damaging it? Does the tape interfere with the sound quality? What other method can be used to remove it later without damaging it?
Can you blend this with the trinity mic similar to a Fishman rare earth mic blend or Seymour Duncan mag Mic Or a Schertler Magnetico AG6 with S-mic?

Did you have those two pickups EQ'd the same? The definity makes it sound like a guitar. That's a terrible sound for a banjo. The twin sounded pretty good.
The ocean of reverb makes it a worthless demo.

I see you installed it off the treble foot? The paperwork recommends the middle foot but I can also see it being placed on the lower register-bass foot and see how it could add more low end sound. Have you tried other foot placements? Thanks for sharing.

Now I have to buy two Double Helix's I guess. It sure sounds great by itself and especially with the Pure Mini Pickup. I have two acoustics and two K&K Pure Mini Pickups. I just don't have the K&K Pure Mini Pickups installed yet. This video on the Double Helix is an excellent demo of the K&K Pure Mini and the Double Helix. Thanks for a great demo.

Does the magnetic pickup do anything when unplugged?
When you unplug it, it is not doing anything that you would hear or feel, other than having it visibly mounted in the sound-hole. There is no battery either, it is a passive pickup.
This is a great tone. I have a Pure Mini in my '67 J45 which I use with the Pure preamp-sounds great, but am interested in using a Double Helix in my Dove as I'm not mad about the stock Baggs Element pickup. Will the DH perform well as a standalone pickup or do I really need to add the Pure Mini and the blend preamp to get the best out of it?
Hello Jinder, thanks, the DH is a very nice stand alone pickups as well. Plus you could mix it with your Baggs system as the DH phase switch allows for any combination of pickups. I personally find the combination with the Pure Mini super-nice though but the DH itself sounds very nice too. Dieter
I can't wait to get this pickup! I think having the dual settings is brilliant. I can totally see myself using both settings on different songs.

Great sound! but wonder if there is much more risk for this pickup get hit by the strings than other mag pickups...(if I do some slap or percussion things you know) cuz the design looks like a little bit...high?
Hi Andy, thanks, you can lower it by removing the foam padding on both mounting ends plus you can lower the pole pieces, should be no problem. Dieter, K&K Sound

Hello Otavio, this is Dieter, thanks for the nice words, we used our standard EQ setting for the Pure Mini on the Dual Channel Preamp: gain trimmer set to about half, bass and treble flat (center) and midrange was cut by about 15dB, which translates to the arrow on the trimpot set to about 9 o'clock. There was no other EQ used.

The Definity and the Fishman looks pretty similar, though I don't know (Not an audio expert, just a musician) why K&K went with such a bulky preamp compared to the Fishman. Banjo Twin sounds like a mic, but then you can only use that instrument with the pickup from then on. I think it's time to buy a second banjo!
