It is not " classical folk dance" , it is 'classical dance' and one of the 8 classical dances of India. For context 'ballet' would be close to a classical dance but it is mostly semiclassical , it is not as orderly or regulated as Bharatnatyam or other 7 systems . They are not folk because it is not limited a particular group of people as everyone can learn it without restriction .
