Dune Biking the HWY 1 Dune Apr 13, 2024. The End of the 2023-24 dune biking season.
This was my final Hwy 1 dune ride as the area is roped off for the Snowy Plover habitat. With the rainy season over the dunes sand dry's out making dune riding more difficult. Now I have just wait for the 2024-2025 dune biking season to come. Can't wait!

California State Parks creating obstacles to access our beaches.
Просмотров 258 месяцев назад
So little taxpayer money is put into our California State Parks that accessing them is a real challenge. We used to take pride in our state parks but now with technology and cell phones, funding them is not important any longer. Our politicians must be thinking, ...who needs parks when you can just look at outdoor pictures and videos on your cell phone or computer...
Big Sur, Andrew Molera State Park, Beach Biking adventure Mar '24 " A River too Deep"
Просмотров 4310 месяцев назад
My trip down the coast to Andrew Molera State Park in Big Sur didn't turn out the way I was hoping it would. With a low tide I thought I would revisit the beach there on my beach bike. As it turned out the only way to cross the Big Sur river was thru about 3-4 feet deep crossing. I was not prepared for that and was disappointed they still haven't put in a permeant bridge. I can only speculate t...
Sand Biking the Eolian Dunes, Sand City, Ca March 2, 2024
Просмотров 1310 месяцев назад
The Eolian Dunes is a big open space sand dune that is fun to play around in on a sand bike. Butted between Hwy 1 and Monterey Bay beach, it has mostly small dunes that require some creativity to get the best out but when conditions are right it's super fun to play out here. Located in Sand City, Ca it's very easy to access via car and with the Monterey Coastal Rec Trail as a boundary, hikers a...
Sand Biking the Marina Halfpipe Dune (Revisited) Feb 8, 2024

The Marina Halfpipe Dune is actually 2 halfpipes. One is the Hwy 1 halfpipe dune, and the other is the Westend halfpipe dune. Both are similar in nature but with different features. It had been a couple years since I first discovered them that I decided to revisit their unique terrain on Feb 8th, 2024. I was not disappointed! In what only can be described as perfect conditions both dunes provid...

The start of the dune biking season is off to a great start! This day will go down in the books with massive waves along the coast of California! For big wave surfers mavericks was rock'in! For dune bikers like me the low tide with high waves gave a whole other mind feeling on the beach...very powerful. With the packed sand on the Double Dome Dune (3D), the whole dune opened up and allowed me t...

When the first rains of winter arrive that signals the start of the Marina Dune Biking season. That's when the dunes sand become packed allowing you greater traction to cover more of the dune. Combine that with stunning sunsets over the Monterey Bay and you have the makings of a really good bike ride! Enjoy the Dunes!

Now that I'm living on the coast in Marina Ca the Tour comes to Laquna Seca just 20 minutes from my house. Laquna Seca also hosts the largest bike festival in the world the "Sea Otter Classic". Sand Biking the Salinas River State Beach Aug 10, 2022

The historic Salinas River beach is long, level and usually without people. You really feel like you have the entire beach to yourself. In History, The native people in this area thrived off the rich abundant land and used its resources for 10,000 plus years! The state of California needs to do all that it can to pay respect to these people. Having a broken boardwalk doesn't help us nor does it...

Too cute🥰
So cool! Beautiful Scott. ❤️🌊
Miss my long walks there what I miss most❤Thank You for this.
I don't remember Big Sur looking so desert like Lol. The scenery is beautiful.🥰
I really loved this video. I feel like I'm right there with you riding on the Dunes 😂❤
You guys live in paradise! Your video made it look like you were almost going to go over a cliff! Lol, What a blast that must be to ride on the Dunes. ❤️🌊
No and? Mistake. Lol
Double dome sand dune. Wow, the beautiful big waves at Monterey Bay are impressive. The sky is gorgeous. Loved the explanation of the feet in the sand and?❤
Wow, beautiful Scott! I love the music too. Gorgeous sunset. You can send a video every day. Monterey Bay is magical. Can I come live there too? 🥰🌊
Thanks Janet! My #1 fan. You can come to Marina, just click your heels 3 times!
Beautiful Scott! ❤️🌊
Janet, thanks for watching and liking!
Man I just visited it after the recent rains and let me tell you it’s absolutely awful. There’s so many branches in the stream where literally mounds of water bottles and styrofoam are just piled up against. And it’s just not one or two parts of the trail. The entire trail is still filled with garbage and it’s much worse than what you saw in this video.
O.A. Thanks for the unfortunate update. I can only imagine what it looks like now after your description. But it doesn't surprise me, I figured they did nothing about it. Too bad, a gem of a trail for the citizens of San Jose ruined because the city won't keep it clean. I will probably never ride that trail again.
One of the reasons why the high-tech kids don't want to go to Alum Rock Park there's no cell phone reception.
Hi, I'm trying to get any information..Maybe if you ride the trail often maybe you've seen him ..My little brother was killed June 26,2020 in the Guadalupe River at Hedding and ruff drive.. I'm in Louisiana so I don't know the area... He was a science teacher and a cross-country track coach at evergreen Valley high school.. Maybe you are someone has seen him around before his death ...subs I can get some closer... If you need a photo please let me know... Thank you for reading
Years ago there were horse stables nearby. There was once the zoo. You could hike to the end falls. There were historical buildings that had the large pool and merry go round. Despite having significant historical value they were demolished. You could at one time have a wonderful walk or bike ride up the end paved road. Now you are fined for using it as you are hiking to the falls. The park is basically that now. Just another park, with few hints left of it’s rich history.
They took away the all fun stuff that was important for quality of life here in SJ. But I still don't understand why tech workers don't use it to escape their digital world! Thank you for your historical points!
Nice vid. I ride all the trails at Alum Rock Park and Grant Park looks like a good challenge. I'll have to go ridin there sometime.
Seriously wow. I literally grew up in that park as a kid my family also grew up around that park and penentencia creek. My grandmother always talked about the indoor pool building. I used to drink the water right off that sulfur water rock when it was streaming. I also picked the black licorice plants at the creeks edge. Hiked to eagle rock road and horses all over the trails. I haven’t seen it in almost 40 years. Can I ask you what school you went to? I went to toyon elementary then Piedmont middle then independence high school. Lived next to Toyon now I live in Europe in the Netherlands. Every time I ride my bike over here I talk about this park alum rock and it’s mysterious healing powers the old timers spoke of. I could probably talk to your grandfather for hours about this place. Thanks for sharing it with someone who really loved this park.
Glad you enjoyed! The park has given many memories to it's visitors over the years, some last a lifetime. I went to James Lick High.
@@scopau1348 Wow thanks for the reply. What year did you graduate. One of my first jobs was working at the bikeshop next to the bakery kitty corner to James Lick Highschool around 1981 or so. I graduated in 84 from Santa Clara but went to independence for my first 3 years. My mother also went to James Lick.
...could be due to mountain lion sighted back then.
ugh that's just sad. Where along the trail is your turn-around point in the video? I'm moving to San Jose for work and wanted to stay around Riverview Park in hope that I could cycle from there to Alviso using the Guadalupe River Trail. :/
Riverview is further North and should not be as bad as where I was in downtown SJ. You should like that trail to Alviso. Then also there is a ton of dirt trails at the Marina there in Alviso. For road biking hills try Mt Hamilton Rd to Lick Observatory. The biking weather in SJ can't be beat! Welcome to SJ and thanks for watching!
They had barricaded the entrance so cars were not allowed in. Good to see cars can go in now. Used to be a Zoo. Two swim pools. swing. I worked at the Natural History Museum.. Maybe no one knows its open now!!!! thanks fpr posting Scott.
East San Jose is a shit hole
Great video, still beautiful! ❤
Thanks for uploading this video.. very informative. And most of the tech workers do visit Lake Elizabeth, Mission Peak and other neighborhood parks. You mentioned tech workers several times in the video and thats what forced me to write this review. :)
BTW, I am planning to visit Alum rock park soon after watching your video only 😊
@@VikasSharmaUSA thanks for your interest. Alum Rock Park is a gem to explore enjoy your visit!
I grew up in East San Jose four miles from Alum Rock Park. In 1978 I was 10 years old and we used to ride our bikes to alum Rock Park we would take fishing hooks corn or cheese and we would catch 18in trout out of the creek which was stocked back then just before I left I would grab some Watercress for my mother. Those were beautiful days.
Very cool, thanks for sharing your Fat Bike adventure Scott!!
