Channel Update, What's New?
Просмотров 542 года назад
I want to do something a little different in this video, I want to talk a little bit about some new content that I will be adding to the channel. One of my personal goals has been to become an MSF certified RiderCoach so that I could competently teach the MSF Basic Rider Course to new motorcyclists. I am currently taking an MSF course that should allow me to become a certified RiderCoach within...
Practicing Slow Speed Skills - Offset Weave & Snowman
Просмотров 2842 года назад
In a previous video, I covered riding cone patterns with a group of riders in my local area, NOVA Cone Camp. In this video, I practice riding a large offset cone weave and the snowman with a figure eight. The course layouts are intended to help riders to develop the skills necessary to navigate their bikes around tight corners at relatively slow speeds. These cone patterns are designed to help ...
Practicing 3 Different Lines On Small Whoops

When I'm out riding the trails, I sometimes come across a challenging section or an obstacle that could be ridden using more than one line. I like to try and take the opportunity to practice riding each different line so I can improve my riding and get better at recognizing and picking lines. This video covers riding 3 different lines across 4 small whoops on the trail.

Will larger foot pegs on a TW200 drag while cornering?
Просмотров 6152 года назад
One of the members of a TW200 group on Facebook was interested in upgrading their stock foot pegs to something a bit larger. They were concerned that larger foot pegs might drag on the ground while cornering. I have larger foot pegs on my TW200 so I decided to see if I could answer the question.
Practice Riding Up Stairs On a TW200

I like to practice my motorcycling skills while I'm out trail riding. Many times I practice on natural obstacles that I find on the trails like dropoffs and ledges but there isn't any reason that you can't practice on manmade obstacles you might find. In this video, I choose to practice riding up and down a set of stairs.

The yellow Jeep in the video was trying to get up a small rock ledge on the trail and somehow it started to slip left toward a pretty large dropoff. • @mototrailsandtrials8482
      @mototrailsandtrials8482 2 года назад

Hi Paddle Board. I'm glad the video was helpful. The Tundra suspension is stock but its not a problem because the bike only weighs about 300lbs with fuel and saddlebags and the truck's tongue weight rating is a little over 1,000lb and the payload rating is 1,600 lb so nothing is over loaded. I use to have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 and it's tongue weight rating was 500lb and the payload rating was 1450lb. I used the same setup to carry the bike with no problems. With both of these trucks the weight wasn't noticeable while driving and it did not make the headlights shine higher or blind oncoming drivers. On the Toyota there is a control that can compensate for added weight on the rear of the vehicle by lowering the level of the headlights. One point I did not cover in the video is using a hitch anti-rattle clamp. In the video you can see the carrier wobbling around when I load the bike, an anti-rattle clamp prevents the carrier from moving around. The hitch carrier came with a hitch anti-rattle clamp which worked well on the Dodge but would not work on the Tundra. I purchased a Trimax THC200 Univeral Anti-Rattle Clamp from Amazon and it works very well. The only thing I changed on the Trimax was to replace the standard 3/4" nuts with good quality nylock nuts. Here is a link to the one I purchased. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JPCVM14/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I used to worry, but as my confidence grew, and maybe overgrew haha, I now grind the shit out of my pegs ripping on the the island I live on, but thats what the little spring loaded tips are for right haha? When you feel them start to lift, just take some foot pressure off and you still have a few more degrees to lean haha, I don’t recommend riding like I do though, no cops around here and I also seem to have a horseshoe up my ass and never break myself to bad when I do slip off the road from pushing it too far and never quite learn my lesson enough to tone it down haha. But gosh do I ever love that round stock rear tire! I’ve raced my buddies here and Im always out-powered by at least 200cc’s, but because the the island is all corners, and everyone else’s dual sport tires are fairly squared, they have to slow down for corners muuch more than I do, as the round tire gives grip right up the sidewalls and a perfect transition, I just fly past them in/after the corners haha. Even with the fresh knobbies on they hold exceptionally 👌 I’ve had my fair share of bikes up to 600cc’s, dirtbike and sportbike, and the TW200 is my favorite by far. Trails, roads, and bush, she loves it all. In 90+km/hr hard corners though I could feel my ass sway left and right as the knobbies bent, but they hold haha. Just have to be careful in those right turns! The cursed crankcase oil leak that all these bikes seem to have, slicks up the right side. But yes like he says, it’s not a racing bike and doesn’t have the oil delivery or cooling to keep up with sustained high RPM, I go through a piston ring set a season, and I should probably be ashamed for treating the old girl like I did haha, going to treat her right after this rebuild though, have a ktm 400 exc to abuse now haha 🤣

I don't do much street riding so I don't usually have an issue dragging the pegs but I could see how you might drag them on the road. I do hit the pegs on rocks and logs but it's not quite the same as dragging them because the bike is leaned over that far. Where do you live? It sounds like a great place to ride. It sounds like you have a lot of fun on your bike, be safe and enjoy it.

@@mototrailsandtrials8482 Street riding was all I was used to in Vancouver 🇨🇦, but was fairly inexperienced, and then bought a sailboat to live on and slowly worked my way over to Cortes Island, a couple small islands off Vancouver island, come visit if you can! It sure is a special place, less people living here than my old highschool population haha. Haha I think I have too much fun on my bike haha 🤣 I keep a foot aircast bungee corded to my seat just incase haha, only needed once so far but Im sure I will again haha. I went from being afraid to peg scrape, to intentionally peg scraping, and now I set beer cans up and try to grab them off the centre line while scraping haha, only mucked up once but I don’t dare attempt these leans in any other rig I’ve ridden, especially on these roads here. Logging roads with packed crushed rock on top, the curves are great, but improper banking, very soft shoulders, lots of gravel, and the occasional drunk driver out of lane, but I can’t think of anywhere else Id rather live. I normally wouldn’t use knobbies on the road at the speed/angles I do, but I tried a more street tire, and I needed to change my underwear when I got home hahah 🤣 Where abouts are you? Close to a forest/trails to get away from people I hope. I always forget how hard it is to escape the city noise and laws. I think the bush freedom we have up here is something I take for granted, all the cities are tucked right up to the US border and nothing is happening with the rest just a couple hours North. Anyways Ive had a few beer and only youtube for company and all if a sudden am a friggin Novel writer haha🤣 signing off for the night haha. i know video doesnt really do justice to whats actually there but that trail doesnt look as bad as i heard it was.i never tried that one cause ive heard its the hardest trail there but i believe ive been through some on the taskers gap side worse.great video!

Thanks for the comments. I'd have to agree with you, I don't think its more difficult than 494 (Edinburg Gap, .5 miles), 495 (Taskers Gap .2 miles), or 499 (Bowman , 1.6 miles). However, the downhill/uphill section on the southern end of Green Mountain is comparable to the more challenging trails on the Taskers Gap side. I think the bigger challenge with Green Mountain is having enough energy to complete all 6 miles of the trail safely. Most folks start by climbing to the ridge using Walters Gap trail and then head south on Green Mountain toward Opechee Peak and down the final rock garden to join up with Peters Mill Run but that's only half of the trail. The section this video covers is the other half of the trail that most people don't seem to know about. When the trails open again I would love to complete the entire trail in one go. Map of Green Mountain trail: www.alltrails.com/explore/map/green-mountain-trail-fa246d0?u=i I did two videos of riding up and down the southern end of Green Mountain. Very nice video, so many TW riders would benefit from a trials class training.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I agree, almost all dirt oriented riders and many street riders would benefit form some trials experience. Unfortunately, where I live in the US, there doesn't seem to be much interest in trials. I've been looking for a used trials bike for a while but no one seems to have one and none of the motorcycle dealers in my area sell new trials bikes.

It was fun and a bit of a work out at the same time. You could always consider getting a second bike for trail riding.

It does a pretty good job. I'm not able to keep up on the smoother sections of the trails but when the trails get more difficult, the TW really shines.

That trail looks painful to ride. You need some trail fairies to come and move about a million of those rocks outta the way!

    • @mototrailsandtrials8482

There are plenty of rocks but I suppose it's like most things, if you do something for long enough you get use to it.

Thanks. The trail does take a little getting use to but I've been riding on the rocks for long enough that I don't worry too much about them now.
