Your home for ink stains and watercolor splashes!
Spice Up Your Color Palette- with that one watercolor you hate!
I sometimes have the feeling my watercolor palette is too boring so in this video I'm going to spice it up by mixing colors I wouldn't normally use!
I'm not huge fan of orange for example- but after this swatching session that could change!
I'm also playing around with general "rules" of color theory such as color value (the range of lights and darks)- as well as creating a harmonious range of cool and warm shades.
Come join me as I make a huge mess in this short but sweet watercolor process tutorial!
In this video I'll be using a variety of artisan watercolors by:

Thank so much for this great video! I’ll be traveling to Italy next year and this was a great help! Do you know witch of the italian shops have the best prices?
Wonderful tour of art stores in Florence… so generous of you to do this! I’m passing this on to my traveling artist friends. Miss your videos Auria!!
Thank you for this video! I'm traveling to Florence in April and will love visiting some of these shops. It will be a wonderful treasure to explore your beautiful city.
Beautiful mixed media piece! ❤
@@rusukebordones awww thank you so much!💙💙
I love this video! ❤
Thank you! Just what I needed, it's saved me so much time to know where to go for what!!!
@@kateleney6800 so glad you liked it!🌷🌷
Wow such an amazing drawing ❤❤❤
Too quietly recorded
@@evaangel6961 I agree! It was one of the first videos I ever published here. There’s been a big learning curve.🙌
Beautiful, colour just speak to me. You fill my creative cup! Thank you.❤
Green
Excellent instructions...thank you for your beautiful demos
I love the free approach you take! I'm fascinated by your papers so that's next on my list. Thank you!
That so creative and not too hard. Japanese art and folk craft is my favorite in the world. Besides Renaissance architecture and art. Thank you so much! Your work is inviting. ❤
Ooh I didn't know you were on RUclips! This was so fun to watch; I love hearing your thoughts aloud, and such a good point about bringing in the colours you don't like sometimes - beautifully demonstrated! {Also I think this is my first ever RUclips comment.🙃}
Tara! I'm sorry I missed your first-ever RUclips comment! Thank you! I hope to be back here soon with more videos! I'll keep you posted!💕
Thank you for this! I love looking at art supplies.
Great video! I’m so glad I just found your channel. What is the surface you are mixing on? It is so awesome and such a great idea to mix on your desk or table. I also love your color palette, I’m new to watercolor and I’m in search of my own style, so your color palette speaks to me, thank you.
I'm so happy this resonates with you! Basically, I bought a piece of countertop like board from the home depot we have here in Florence. It's like a coated particle board- something that ikea would make their cheaper line of furniture out of. I put it over my table that I want to protect- it gives me a big enough surface to let me just play and have fun! And i juggest if you are trying to find your way with color to do just that! Play and have fun! Grab the colors you like and resonate with you- there are no rules! You make the rules for you- lean into what lights you up and start your exploration there! Hope this helps!!😊
Such a lovely video! Thank you for such a visual feast for the artist eyes ☺
Do you glue pages together?
Love your swatching!!! Love to see you work. I am wondering what your surface is that you freely mix and add paint to ? It looks so freeing.
Thank you Diane! The surface was just. a piece of white countertop that i picked up from the building supply store. It is fun just to mix the paints right on the table so to speak! Thank you for watching and appy painting to you!🙂
So nice to see a new video from you! Loved these swatches & this whole vibe! Amazing 🤩
Awwww thank you so much! You're very kind!!!🙏🌺🌻🌼🌷
Such a fun video to watch!
Thank you so much for watching Jamie! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!🌺🌻🥀
Love this!
Thank you so much!
Your roll of paper is plaster tape for covering the line between 2 drywall panels…

Lovely colors! Thanks for the tray idea!
Happy to share! so glad you enjoyed it🌺
It's beautiful I just couldn't do this. Not a vintage book. There's history in a vintage book and I wouldn't want to ruin it.
I totally get that! I have many vintage books, magazines and viintage photos that I Wouldn't dare touch for those same reasons. But I also have many (because I am a bit of a hoarder of these things😊 that are beyond repair- I use those and hope to give them a new life in this way. 🌺
Art and Books! All at one time! Can’t wait to try this. Borahae!
I’ve gotta feeling you’re gonna rock those gessoed pages ! 🙌💕
so glad to see another video from you! you're one of my favorite art creators to watch. (i don't mind the 'kinda's' at all. your own natural self is what's appealing! :) btw, i did try suminagashi, inspired by you, and got some great results. thanks 😊
Aww thank you so much for the encouragement Alice!🙏 I've had a bit of a chaotic spring period so I wasn't able to dedicate time to making videos. That said, the kids are out of school so I have more time. I'm starting back in with some junk journal pages and hope to do some more suminagashi experiments soon...I'm so glad you got something out of those! 🤗🌺
This is just what I needed right now. Great inspiration and knowledge. Getting back into acrylics, what fun. Going to use an old book I found at a thrift shop.
Thank you for watching and I'm so glad it inspired you to think about painting over some vintage books! It's a nice alternative to a more expensive sketchbook! Let me know how it goes!🌺
do you have a video about choosing inks? particularly that float?
I love this idea and have been mulling around an idea for a video for this topic! Stay tunned!🙌
Very creative artwork technique. In case you haven't tried this, any high quality inkjet fine art paper will work perfectly.
Thank you so much, and yes that works too- for sure!! But I've found that it doesn't always allow for a nice contrasted pull. I'm kind of obsessed with trying to get my black super dark! And I find these papers help me get the results I'm looking for. 🌺
Short and sweet. No fussing, just plain ideas which are great ! Thanks for being spontaneous !
Thank you for watching! I'm glad you got something out of it! I love your channel too although I don't speak French I wish you all the best luck! 🙌🌺
@@auriabohn that’s sweet ! No subtitles available ?
Hey thanks for informative video 😍
Thank you for watching Rahila! It was something I've been wanting to share for some time now...so glad you liked it!🤗
Thank you, Auria, for these wonderful videos! You are so generous with your time, practical information and creativity. You have inspired me!
Thank you you Ellen! It's my pleasure! I hope you get a chance to try this process...I bet you would have fun with incorporating into your art process! It's pretty funt to mix these bits wiht collage work🤗
Inspiring! Thanks!
Thank you for watching Charlotte!
❤❤❤
Awwww shucks Todd, thank you!🙏 I’ve been gone for a while on RUclips… and this was my rough attempt last week to jump back in. Thanks for watching, really thank you!💕🤗
But ther is no step😊
There’s a little link at the bottom “Best washi tape tutorial “… that will take you to the full tutorial.💕🤗
Where have you gone Auria....is everything okay?? :)xx
Julie!! I’m still here!🙌 sweet of you to reach out and give me a nudge.🙏 it’s been a bit of a busy period on the homefront- I have two boys in middle school and I also started a new job recently. But I miss it here and was just editing a new video today! I’m hoping to get back here soon. Thanks again for popping your head up!🤗💕
@@auriabohn phew. 😅
Great art works, and also, a great video.❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much for the kind comment! Makes me want to keep going!🙌
So cool, thank you Auria, your now my go to expert for organic patterns! Love it and will try it too!
Awww thank you Heidi! I’m so glad you got something out of this video! Warning that these patterns can be addictive though.😂💕
Can i use this on fabric
That's a great question! I think you for sure can but you would need to use a fabric such as cotton gauze or silk and will need a way to fix your inks to the fabric in a more permanent way if you intend to wash it. I have not tried it but it is something I dream about as well!🙌
This is CRAZY! CRAZY CREATIVE!! 😆❤️👏🏾🔥🎉🎊😁
Awwww thank you so much!😊
Such lovely colours, and your expressive/sketchy style is really cool to watch
Thank you so much! That's a nice compliment!🙏🌺
Thank you for watching! So glad you enjoyed it!🌺🌷
Beautiful, thank you
Thank you for stopping by and watching (and your comment)🙏. These watercolors can be on the pricey side so I thought it would be fun to share how beautiful they are....glad you enjoyed it🌺
Thank you for this series! I fell in love with the papers as soon as I saw them. I gave it a go and got some good results with Amsterdam and Liquitex acrylic inks on a premium copy paper I had at home. Next go is to try some high flows I already have and to get some alum so I can treat and use different types of papers. What I enjoy most about the process is it’s simplicity and the intuitive nature of the designs. So much fun!
I'm so glad you enjoyed these little lessons Sharon..and you have already given it a shot...how cool! The high flow acrylics and a little alum wash first takes it to the next level i tell ya...I hope you give that a try too!🙌
@@auriabohn I will for sure! I've already used some of the prints I made on some WIP canvases and I love the results!
These prints look amazing! Thank you for sharing your process and supplies :D
I'm so glad you got something out of it Kristie! I hope it inspires you to give it a shot!🌺
Such a cool technique ❤
Thank you so much Jamie! So glad you like it! It is pretty fun!🌻
