Flutter 3 has native M1 Support - finally !!
wait 10 + seconds after npm start is clearly not usable... spending 1k on good chip and bottleneck it with swap? lol
Love it, very helpful tips. Thank you I am about to purchase Mac mini m4 base variant (16Gb Ram -256GB) for Flutter dev. ; will this system is fine for next 2-3 years
Thanks. And congratulations, that’s a great machine
You need more ssd on m2 for faster result
good work
Thank you! Cheers!
I am flutter dev thinking to buy macbook but i am confused should i buy m2 or m3 but i can buy only the base model 8 gb ram and 256 of them is it worth for running Android studio and xcode
It’s always a good idea to get the latest processor if you can afford. 8 GB is sufficient for Xcode and android. Unless you are building very large projects you should be OK. See some of the videos on this channel to get an idea of build times etc with 8GB
hello to question today , i used 16gb-core i7 now for 20 chorme tab everyday , sometime it have to reload , I want to change to mac with same 16 gb ram , m2 or m3 . can you confirm for me is it better than 16gb of window ?
Even Windows i7 would have no problem with 20 tabs. Probably reloads happen because some websites are buggy, not because of memory shortage
what about now can i use flutter on m2 + 8gb ram without any problem?
Nice one!
Hi My mac is Air M2 8GB and 256GB and I used Xcode last version Sequoia and my project is use IOS 18 but everytime I build screen 1 or 2 it always Crash do u know why?
I can't see any reason on the specs front why this should not work. Could be a bug in your code or something ? Or try cleaning the build cache? It's very hard to say for a specific case. I'm using the M2 8GB in this video and as you can see its fine.
it did'nt work why
According to you, it has sense to boy m3 macbook air 8/256 to start a new experience in xcode? Starting from zero
Yeah it should be fine. As the video shows I’m using an M2 even
I thought Apple said the intelligent code prediction would require 16GB memory. Is this the feature you're showing at ~2 min in? If so, it looks like they made it work on 8GB.
So I have verified now. Yes "Predictive Code Completion Model" is installed in Xcode. That's why I'm getting such good intellisense
Are you noticing worse speed on Sequoia, compared to Sonoma? It typical usage: browsing, excel, etc?
No difference at all - same experience
@@TechCode50 and when system uses much swap - also same experience like on Sonoma?
Yeah. I haven’t noticed any difference. There might be some small edge cases but to be honest I haven’t noticed anything - and I’ve been on sequoia beta for a few months
Loving you tests about 8GB ram!
Hi 👋 Should i go for m1 air 8gb or m2 air 8 gb ... In most of the reviews I'm finding that m2 sucks a lot and even today m1 is beast ..this is what I'm getting all reviews from many people .Also I work as an ios dev and i need for my personal projects. Is is still fine in 2024 and with xcode 16 and since swift 6 is also about to come .. Please help me I'm really confused.
M1 and M2 are pretty close in performance so there isn’t much personal difference. If you wait a little bit the M4 machines should be out soon and that would be a better jump. As for xcode 16 - I just did a video of using xcode 16 on M2 and it’s fine
@@TechCode50 aaj but I can't wait . I need urgently for projects. I'm focusing on M1 after your reviews but since m2 is new that's why I'm confused.
Well if the price difference isn’t much you go with m2. It’s always good to have a newer model. If nothing it will get OS updates for longer since it came out later
Okay thanks
thanks for this vid!
Which is better > m2 ram16 256gb ? m2 ram8 512gb? Im looking for a new laptop to work with excel files that have more than 500k rows and a ton of formulas. Please help me😢
In terms of Excel both of these will probably have the same performance. I have several Excel usage videos on the channel in which I open large Excel files on 8 GB. Please take a look at them to get a sense of performance
@@TechCode50 thanks sir
Does it use a lot of swap memory? I'm thinking of buying an iPhone SE 2nd generation so I don't have to use the emulator
The swap file for the project in the video runs to around 2.5 GB, plus or minus, depending on how many other things you are doing on the system.
Shitty notch. 🤮
For C or c++ or not
hey i know this video is 3 years old but i just installed xcode 16 and in my simulator i use iphone 16 pro, but the simulator is lagging like crazy even for the smallest projects. everything else is working fine and CPU is only using 30%. any idea what’s going on? build is running quick too…
It’s running fine for me with the latest Xcode and simulator. The simulator takes some time the FIRST time it is opened after installing Xcode update. But after that it works fine
I’ve also just added a new video showing how xcode 16 runs in this laptop. That should give you some idea of performance
@@TechCode50 thank you. i kind of fixed it as i had a misunderstanding of the simulator. i thought, because it’s lagging, i should close it between runs but actually that was causing it to lag harder than just stopping the run and rebuilding without ever closing the simulator!
hey i have a macbook air m1 with 8gb and my build is running quick but in my simulator it’s lagging very hard (most noticeable when trying to enter text and it’s very delayed) any tips to fix this?
I’ve just made a new demo video of using Xcode 16 on the m2 Mac with 8GB. Take a look and it might help
So its basically equal to an m1?
The m2 ? Yes. Basically
Could you do this for video editing how much screen real estate are we getting while video editing thanks
The m2 and m1 are practically same for video editing. The screens are also the same size
@@TechCode50 so when we are editing we don’t get any screen size advantage, am i right and what about the performance for both the base models, do they perform identical for an average video editor, or an extra gpu core favors the m2, as per an average user.
Yes exactly. The same screen size so nothing changes. Performance for an average video ( I use iMovie ) is basically the same. For reference all the videos on my channel are edited with iMovie
@@TechCode50 4k editing any difference between m1 and m2?
I don’t do 4k
How is the m1 video editing as compared to m2 video editing? Base model thanks
Pretty much the same
you don't say what Mac model you have. This does not work on Macs before 2020. the reason is the lack of T2 chip. I have a 2019 iMac and it does not work. Apple support tried and eventually came to conclusion it only works on Apple Chip Macs or 2020 intel iMac {which has T2 security chip}. if anyone has got it to work on older iMacs please comment
I have the M2 MacBook Air with 8GB
Hey I want to buy m2 air 8gb is it good for xcode and ios development. Please reply
It is fine for it. However the new version of Xcode has AI code completion feature which only allows works with 16GB. So if that feature is important to you, you will need at least 16 GB
Should i buy m1 with 16gb or m2 with 8gb plz reply
much better with a 16gb
at least in fullscreen the whole display should be in use, that shut is so annoying to me
A SINGLE ClickUp (Project Management app) tab can be 2GB! One. Tab. So no, 8Gb is NEVER enough. Case forever closed. Also, keep testing it with opening tabs, then closing the lid (putting the laptop to sleep) a few times. That would be a realistic test.
this is awesome!!!! thanks for this! where do you find your c64 games?
Well try googling for them ;) google for c64 games d64 files
What is more worth it? A Macbook Air M3 or the Asus Zenbook 14 Olded? For excel, sheets, docs, canva, & analytics applications?
I don’t have a zenbook to compare with. But I feel both will be ok and it comes down to what you prefer. I like Macs but there’s also some excellent windows machines out there
Hi, I'm a student and I'd like to know if the M3 base model is capable of doing tasks for research, ms excel / google sheets, docs, ms teams, jamovi, tableau, canva, and figma (only light use/free version)? My workflow revolves around these applications and let me know if its feasible. Also, what browser would you recommend (aside from safari), that is not heavy on ram?
Yes the M3 should be fine unless you’re dealing with very very large files. For Mac it’s best to use safari - there’s no downside, it’s an excellent browser
hey! i just bought this with 512gb, i hope it runs smoothly in mine too!
any news or suggestions ?
it has been great! i recommend it very much. @@kirosho
@@kirosho i really like it so far! recommended for sure
Brilliant, thank you! Man, The Last Ninja brought back so many memories, as did Commando. Now I just need to find the actual games!
Please make video when u combine it with stage manager!
Nice video
The performance of the simulator for a react native its ok with only 8gb?
A bit off-topic, but: have you tried the predictive code completion in the Xcode beta? Apple says it will require 16GB. Do you think the baseline for iOS devs should now be 16GB, or would you still get 8GB if you had to buy today?
No I'm not seeing code completion - probably because of having 8GB. So yes, this is an important point and since code completion will only get better with time, 16GB would be the best starting point for Xcode dev
Is m3 air any better?
my work is mostly doing automatic testing using katalon + emulator with bunch of chrome tab open do you think m1 air 8gb ram is enough?
i was checking if the video is playing at 2x speed
:)
Would i go with a mba m1 or with mba m2 i am sooooo confused please tell me
Well performance-wise there is not much difference between the two so if you’re looking for a bargain, the M1 is still good - specially for general computing and everyday work. If you have the budget and want the latest and greatest, you should go for the M3.
To me this is a bigger deal than Apple intelligence. Apple does not have a universal way to expand a window in macos (until now). I find that simply incredible. On windows I never use the actual expand button but always just drag to the top. Remarkable that it has taken them this long. The most essential function in the entire operating system missing for so long. Simply baffling.
Agreed. Coming from windows it was always incredible to see this basic functionality missing. Better late then never I guess
'Maximize' feels essential if you are used to Windows, but the macOS UI has always been designed for multitasking with multiple overlapping windows, and it does that very well. It has never been designed for tiling and maximizing. The Windows UI is the opposite - it makes overlapping windows a pain to work with, and it feels like it's designed first and foremost to work with tiled and maximized windows, so that's what everyone does. With tiling in Sequoia, macOS now has the best of both worlds. I agree that macOS now having a proper 'Fill' (maximize) option is a big and welcome change for the UI, but it's hardly the most essential function of the OS.
I think mac os barely got it because microsoft patented it or something legal like that that prevented them from using it
they still have that natural scrolling option for both trackpad and mouse and i still have to use additional app to fix it. it's unacceptable.
Because Microsoft has held a 15 year patent on it since 2009 which just expired.
hey man just watched your "100 chrome tabs on M2 MacBook Air - with 8GB memory !" and i was wondering if you have the 256gb model or 512gb, because the 256gb model has a slower ssd ?
I have the 512gb / cheers.
@@TechCode50 thanks man !
Do you have the 256 oder 512gb version?
This is the 512GB
@@TechCode50 thx im really not sure if I should buy the 256 version due to the slower ssd speed. I’m using insane amounts of browser tabs for university research. Ur 512 version seems fine but it also has the faster ssd.
I think 512 would be better. I’m not sure there would be much speed impact - these things are often exaggerated in reviews - but also 256 tends to fill up rather quickly. I have another video on the channel about storage if you’re interested
dr.disrespect making cameos in unexpected places
can you also move a window to another monitor with the shortcuts for left and right (as with rectangle)?
I don't have another monitor to test this on, but I don't think so
@@TechCode50 okay thank you👍 I also never had an external monitor until I started feeling increasing amounts of discomfort in my neck😅
:)
Hello, is that wallpaper a static one? is it official by Apple? Can you change its colour? I asked these questions because I can see there is a dynamic screensaver. Thanks
It is official in Sequoia from Apple. You can change the color and it also comes with a screen saver which is dynamic. It's really very nicely done :)
I will keep at most 10 tp 12 taps open. Thanks my guy for this video
