#85 | Bucket List DREAM: Sailing in NEW YORK with our Swedish Sailboat | Linnea Sailing
Wow! Just WOW! For Emmy, it is the first time visiting New York, and it's hard to believe that we have not only made it to New York - we actually sailed here, all the way from Sweden.!
To anchor by the Statue of Liberty, and travel up the East River - straight through the heart of New York, was a dream. And it was even better than we had hoped for!
And yes, it was very overwhelming to arrive to the city after months living off remote islands with very few people in sight. But here we are, ready to take on the city and explore!
Fair winds!
Emmy & Marcus
Anchorages in this episode:
* Sheephead Bay
* Statue of Liberty
* Port Washington
* Port Jefferson

#84 | How we ended up in NEW YORK CITY with our SAILBOAT | Linnea Sailing

It's only 250 nm from Annapolis to New York, and on paper it might look like a fairly regular sail. But going through the CD canal at night is a bit tricky, as there are lights everywhere messing up your reference of distance to land. But the time has come, and it is now time for us to fullfil the dream of SAILING TO NEW YORK!! Hope you enjoy it! Fair winds, Emmy & Marcus We are Emmy and Marcus...

As we say goodbye to the ICW and enter Norfolk to reach Chesapeake Bay, we sail along side naval battle ships to continue our journey north. If you imagine the Chesapeake to be a colorful, vibrant adventure - you might not want to go here in the beginning of May. Pre-season sailing is in general our favourite as it calls for possibilites of havning all the good spots to yourself. But this time ...

The US capes are known to sailors for being vicious and unforgiving if trying to round them in the wrong weather. After riding out a storm, fairly well protected on the inside of Cape Lookout, we set out to explore this notorious cape. They call this the Bahamas of the US, but we think it has more resemblance to home than to Bahamas. It even smells like home! Isn't it hard to imagine, on a day ...

What would you say to 3 days on the ICW in Florida? Sounds pretty nice huh? And compared to the alternative of being stuck or sailing against the wind along the coast, it's perfect. Welcome to the Chesapeake, with your 6+ foot draft. Many years ago we said a Welcome to the Swedish boat CANTELLA. It was the start of several years of a great friendship. Torsten wrote several books about their cruising. I asked if my husband and I were in the book. He said I'd have to get the book to find out. Last year I was able to get the book from Sweden and in Swedish. I only speak English but Google speaks them all. We were there in the book. We had lost contact, but with the internet I went looking again and learned that both are now gone. Wishing you fair winds (and deep enough water.)

Look up "US Wasp class LHD" and "America Class amphibious assault ship" -"The Wasp-class is a class of landing helicopter dock (LHD) amphibious assault ships operated by the United States Navy"

    I imagine it’s strange for Europeans to get to the US and have us going on about how old this or that was when Europe had been established for centuries (even millennia) before DeLeon even got to St Augustine… it looks like you passed on going to the Fountain of Youth also. Good call… I went when I was a youngster and the “fountain” turned out to be a half meter by half meter square hole in the ground and the water they gave us to drink from it has probably taken 10 years OFF my life, 😂😂😂!!!

    ...sooo should someone go out to clean up an uninhabited key that debris from the ocean washed up on?...should they go and sail out to an uninhabited cay every hour to check for ocean debris?... you speak as if someone had a party on the cay and left garbage there...its literally debris from the ocean on a cay that's not inhabited... pick up the debris while you're there since you're so annoyed

    • @linneasailing
      @linneasailing 4 месяца назад

      Well, sorry for the misunderstanding but this was not on an uninhabited island (even though I cannot really see why that would make a difference). The clips here were taken a 2 minute walk from one of those popular spots where everyone goes to take pictures on their day trips. And, of course we know that this does not come from someone having a party on the beach. We know that a lot of debris end up in the ocean from hurricanes and that is just one sad part of such a destruction. What makes us upset is the mentality in Bahamas to clean up only the popular spots, because obviously someone did, otherwise that popular spot 2 minutes away would have looked the same. And by the way, debris does not COME from the ocean in case you didn't know. Hurricane or not, it still comes from humans.

    • @KennyKnowles-kk2hx
      @KennyKnowles-kk2hx 4 месяца назад

      @@linneasailing ..I dont think you are qualified to speak on the "mentality" of Bahamian people, especially on your perception of what is going on at that location ..there are literally hundreds of pristine beaches all over the country... the fact that you think you can cast judgement on the mentality of the people in a place that you have literally passed through by boat is absolutely wild
