Просмотров 804Год назад
In this video, I'm sharing my first impressions of the new edition of the popular D&D campaign setting, Planescape 5e. I'm a big fan of the Planescape games, so I was really looking forward to trying out the new edition. And I have to say, I'm impressed! Using increments of 5% then wanting to keep that and wantingto expand it is a waste of cryin over tidbits. Just go to full D100s or back to whatever mathematical system you want to implement into your game. Either way without the 1 and 20 rule ikethat, you are just saying i don't care for D20 system for whatever it is. There is always a chance for you to hit a cross court basket and have the greatest player's of all time to miss the backboard. You could have your best tim ever in a 100 yard dash. Say youwwre racing Usam Bolt. He rolled a 19 vs your 20. He really should beat you. He had a great run. But he tripped or something happened that let you win that race. Its the life isn't fair rule and part of the storytelling of D&D. 90% of the time it plays out near expectations. Those other 10% the bad is just bad and the good is that bolt should have taken my head off, but I'm alive and unharmed and have a chance now.

    It would be kind of a moot rule in tabletop IMO because if your players wouldn't pass a check with a roll of 20 plus their modifiers anyway, then you're wasting everyone's time by having them roll for it. So the hardest check I would ever have them roll would need a 20 to succeed, which is in effect the same as automatic success on a nat 20 In BG3, where rolls and their DCs are scripted and there's no DM to tweak things or rule when a roll is necessary, critical successes ensure that no check in the game is completely unachievable regardless of how the player might have built their party

    In my opinion, you need to learn how to organize your own character sheet. I list the names of what I get from levels 1-20 in the features/traits box listed out so it's easy to level up and I can put pg. 123 ect next each thing for quick reference. Weapons and attacks works better if you collect weapons or have multiple ways to attack. The 2nd page should be pretty covered but not full at the start. Your going to have a blank section for factions but think of it like "allies". You can put any allied characters you meet, towns, factions, or even people and factions with which you have a NEGATIVE reputation with. Your backstory box should be full when you start if you're good at making a backstory but even if it's not, use it to make room for character growth.

    You're being overly strict, but I wouldn't say you're being an ass. Make them roll for it. Deception, usually. I could also see sleight of hand or performance. Try to say "yes, but" to your players, and make the consequences clear. "Yes you can try to hide the spell, but if you fail, you'll be noticed/you'll lose the spell/etc"

    As a forever DM (been running since 91) I have always followed 2nd ed ways for stuff like this. Using Cleric as example. Spells lvl 1-3 come from within the cleric SPells lvl 4-6 come from an agent of the god SPells lvl 7-9 come from the god themselves keeping with that, people (NPC's) scale the same way based on the level brakcs, CLeric lvl 1-6 (3rd lvl max spells) are those that are run of the mill adventurers, not really known outside of anyone they have helped CLeric lvl 7-12: now getting known, a region knwos them with a good int or knowledge check 13-20: their known all over. why because they have done stuff, maybe saved kingdoms and more.

    You can say: Lvl 1-5 or so are your 'run of the mill'-adventurers. Maybe not 'a dime a dozen' but people are familiar with those somewhat competent folks. You know every barkeep had to clear their cellar from rats at one point or another. 6-10 - those are the folks people know off through stories. Those are the guys who have slain the dragon (or convinced them to take couples therapy to not constantly fight with their spouse making everyone elses life miserable) I'd say those are the 1:1000 kind of experts. 11-15 - heroes with stories spreading far and wide - they've worked for lords and ladies, have titles and lands it's told they have vaults full of immeasruable treasure. But still - people know of their deeds. this are the 1:50000 guys - the Freddie Mercuries, the Einsteins. You have some of them in every generation. 16-20 - Stuff of absolute legends. If they are 'heroes' they appear once every few generations. If they are artists, scholars or craftsmen - they are those legendary one of a kind folks. Still - they are part of the world. And even if a lot is rumored, embellished or lost in the endless game of telephone - people still know of them. they're the 1 in a million or more. Rare but hardly unheard off.

      @@two20slater that's already allowed in base game. You're allowed to just take 10 on a roll. If I need to make a perception check, I can just take my passive perception and not roll any dice. Same for all other skills. If you're stealthing with a +8, then you can just take 10 and effectively have a passive stealth of 18.

    I've found some of the most helpful to be dividing the skills up by ability score and organizing all the battle numbers (i.e. HP, Attacks, Saves) into one area. And if you don't use the regular 5e encumbrance rules, I love using Morgan Brackish Meadows' Anti-Hammerspace Item Tracker (info in a Rotten Pulp blog post). You divide up your inventory into equipment slots around the body, like right arm, left leg, back, etc. It makes for simple inventory management and reinforces a mental image of your character actually having to deal with carrying all the stuff ya got.

    Individual boxes for different weapons. These having separate spots for range and damage and to hit etc. Completely removed all of the stuff about background and used that space to extend the features box all the way up the page. Use the area for temporary hit points to instead add a section for armor. I just put a little thing at the very bottom of that with a dot with word shield next to it. That way you could just put a check in it if you have a shield. Way less writing for later.

  • @chaozflame126
    @chaozflame126 9 месяцев назад

    Somatic might be the easiest to play off as at a minimum you only need one free hand to make the gestures. Vocal components is what gets you, as in most editions it states that the caster must use a strong voice. But that's RAW, if you wanna let your players do it, then do it. A semi more balanced solution might be to allow the whole group to gain an extra ASI/feat (perhaps as a reward), and strongly suggest to the mages that they might wanna grab metamagic adept.

  • @ironroundhousegaming2386
    @ironroundhousegaming2386 9 месяцев назад

    This might just be me but in my worlds, the casting of magic is very flashy, generally something like a magic seal appearing in the air behind you or a thundering word of power issuing forth from your lips, think Gandalf in Rivendell, so hiding it is essentially impossible, casters aren’t really meant to be the sneaky archetype unless they’re specifically built that way in my opinion. Hence the need for subtle spell I think, if you can bend the very fabric of reality to your will, hiding that warping has to take something more than a slight of hand check

  • @tthomas8756

    Id say its more limiting than rude, you would want your players to be able to interact with their world freely. Id say its much more entertaining when you have them act out how they would 'subtly' cast their spells to make them feel more immersed

  • @fanficlover
    @fanficlover 9 месяцев назад

    You'd be better off having them role like stealth or slight of hand to determine how sneaky they are instead of just a flat no. That way non-sorcerers can still try while not invalidating the automatic success of subtle spells. Plus, it could lead to interesting developments if the players fails to be sneaky enough.

  • @treybranham4094
    @treybranham4094 9 месяцев назад

    Oh that is a good question, personally, i would have them roll a stealth check, if it had verbal components they get -5 to their roll, if it had a projectile or other visual effects give them disadvantage, but a subtle spell is like auto success to this roll.

  • @horrificbeauty1666
    @horrificbeauty1666 9 месяцев назад

    Sure id allow that but then there would be a perception check around the table then a knowledge/arcana roll of they passed perception.

  • @Theroha

    Normal spell caster needs to make a stealth or slight of hand roll to hide the somatic component. Subtle spell removes then need to hide completely.

  • @Siegsoul
    @Siegsoul 9 месяцев назад

    Generally speaking there is no chosen somatic components words and what not for spells no specific movement just movement a bard could be just talking at someone while using there hands to gesture like i do there is no rules on what the word is or the Volume what we can assume is it can't be zero because of silence but it can be pretty much as quiet as you want

  • @DrakeWurrum
