I like small fires. I used small fires in the rip-rap at the lake here. Dig a small hole for the same effect. Always be careful with fire in the woods.

I used the gas bottle stabiliser and the coffee filter when out last weekend, they are great. The coffee filter I used over a steel flask, with patience I made almost a litre of coffee, kept hot all morning and tasted great.

DIY gear was the order of the day within the family for years. Where I grabbed early retirement, we quickly learned that there was little selection and imported items from the US were whacked with import fees and taxes. We made many items to get the young'uns Beautiful Bride brought to our marriage up and running. We were having so much fun, no one noticed the gear was home made or converted from inexpensive items we found in grocery stores, import shops and small hardware chains. Over the years, we have upgraded and added to our supplies and still use favourite handmade items.

Thanks for sharing. Love what you did! I made a similar pot out of a smaller tin I got at the dollar store. I don't like putting holes in my pots so I made a riveted copper band heat shrunk to the pot. I used pop rivets with 1/8 tubing for spacers to attach the bail. Hint, hint. I would use that copper fitting on the outside as a spacer. Lamp hardware would make a fancy spacer too 😁👍

I may have a different usage for this, I stumbled across the emergency tents and it similar to how one would pitch a bivvy so i may not have access to trees close enough so was thinking to have my own portable support each time i use such a tent. Wanted something with a spike that can be hammered into the ground just to hold up the rope that's threaded through the tent to give it its shape.

Just my 2 cents but my wife and I looked at tear drops- too expensive for what you get. We looked at expandables- didn't like the "tent" part. We found the smallest travel trailers (under 25ft) offered us almost exactly what we wanted at a better price point. We rented for 3 years to find what floor plans, sleeping arrangements, kitchens and bathrooms we liked. We ended up with a unit similar to the KZ Escape you guys liked, Venture Stratus Sport, made by KZ. Good luck!
