“Why did you hate Quicksand?” [ NAIL WORSHIP RADIO 5 ]
Every Gen-X hardcore kid loves Quicksand. Except Jason. Until like 3 months ago and now he’s in the club. A big convo on their 1993 debut “Slip” and their weird follow-up “Manic Compression” and a bunch of talk about learning to accept art for what it is not what you want it to be. We also talk about Blood Incantation and Black Dice for some reason. Also Nirvana!

90s HC gems: Crud Is A Cult / Deadguy / Honeywell [ NAIL WORSHIP RADIO ]
Просмотров 3528 дней назад
It’s time to talk about an overlooked gem of 1990’s hardcore - the brutal and funny straight-edge band Crud Is A Cult. Fronted by the legendary Sean McCabe (Ink & Dagger, Mandela Strikeforce) and consisting of the entirety of the PA band Flagman (as well as future Deadguy members), Crud made ultra-heavy hardcore with a mischievous flair. Jason and Joshua also get into the genius of Dave Rosenbe...
The Accidental Cults Episode [ Nail Worship Radio on Scientology, Children of God and more ]

We were supposed to record an episode about the 90’s brutal but funny straight-edge band Crud Is A Cult and instead we talked about cults, black magic, metal lyrics and the hippie psuedo-science of Grounding (which Joshua happens to completely believe in). A weird but good turn of events.
Myth-Making: From Mike V. to Numero Group [ NAIL WORSHIP RADIO ]
Просмотров 17Месяц назад
Another wide-ranging discussion from Jason and Joshua with somewhat of an emphasis on how myths keep art (and careers) alive. Topics: Mike Vallely is back on Powell and further building his own self-mythology / More self-mythology from Dominick Fernow of Prurient, Vatican Shadows and Hospital Productions / 90's straight-edge screamo band xFrailx is getting the Numero re-issue treatment and the ...
Why 80’s rap production is so good

Joshua and Jason discuss the magic of 80’s rap like Public Enemy, Ultramagnetic MC’s, and the Beastie Boys and how attempting to recreate what happened in the 70’s nightclub era led to sonic innovation. Also, this was recorded before all the Diddy drama so do with that what you will.

This is our new free-form talkshow. Excuse the rough sound or blame Jason. File under: Coffee and the Cobain Killers / 80s Music Production / Lincoln demo / “Discovering” The Beatles and Black Sabbath in your 40’s / Ted Nugent, Hoover and Fugazi / The Grateful Dead / Eyehategod and Crowbar Links: Lincoln demo: Ted Nugent “Stranglehold” live:
Compassionate chugging: Lincoln’s first (best?) 7"
Просмотров 419 месяцев назад
Jason and Joshua dissect one of the great mysteries of early 90’s hardcore: Lincoln’s “Union” 7" on Watermark Records. Heavy but not metal, melodic but not emo, this was a singular release by a band that would do a hard 180 within the next year and build their legend upon their later releases. But “Union” is an all-time great record and utterly confounding. We try to unpack what’s happening on ...
Breaking Boundaries: Karp/Rye Coalition split LP and 90's Hardcore

New year, a new podcast! Just what everyone was dying for. Jason Gillis and Joshua Hardisty break down a seminal 90's hardcore (sorta) record - the Karp/Rye Coalition split 12" on Troubleman Unlimited. Questions asked: Is it good? What does it mean? Why weren’t we f king with Karp? Why was everybody sitting down in 1995? Why doesn’t everyone hate that stupid Refused record? When did 90's emo pa...
Exploring the Controversy: Punk Reunions - Lame or Legendary?

We’ve seen the revived Unwound, Jawbox, June of 44, Mission of Burma, and some others and the experience has left us scratching our chins. What makes one reunion a cash grab and another a love letter to the fans (ew, phrasing)? This clip is an outtake from an used episode about Unwound’s “Negated” 7" on Troubleman Unlimited. The audio sucked, the framing sucked but this chunk seemed salvageable.
