While we have been pratting around here, Dias has been busy with yet another brilliant interview with Harsha de Silva. You can see the frustration in Harsha here, who holds values that run counter to his own party. I hope that after the elections he will be able to lead a reconfigured Centre Right Political movement. If you listen to the interview, he too believes that the Public have been hoodwinked in to voting for the NPP. But here lies the issue. WHY DID RW AND SAJITH LOSE THE ELECTION (Hint: is wasn’t due to Stupidity) A plutocracy will, by definition, enrich a minority at the expense of the majority, hence the extreme wealth accumulation of the 1% with a proportional loss of buying power of the middle classes. What has happened now is that the Middle Class has got impoverished to such an extent that they have now joined the voting block of the lower income groups. That’s over 50% of the votes, which we will see come to fruition at the upcoming GE. I think we can all agree that we are held within a Plutocracy. The point of contention (in this group) is the impact that a plutocracy has on a county’s growth. Its quite evident the impact plutocracy and corruption have on a system, the only way an economy can grow in that environment is with sheer authoritarianism to hold in check the extreme wealth disparities it causes. China and India being prime examples. Which became the default position RW had to take too. The reason we, the Centre Right, make the contradictory argument that, in a plutocracy, corruption has no bearing, is that we don’t have a Centre Right political party that addresses this issue.

Harsha reminds me of the character Karna in the story of Mahabaratha. In fact, Karna is a character that he should do well to learn from. In Mahabaratha, Karna, despite being the eldest son of Draupadi, was never acknowledged as one of her sons. He was one of the most virtuous characters sometimes surpassing the five Pandavas. But he made one fatal error. Out of loyalty to his friend, Duryodhana (who was cunning enough to help Karna when in need), he chose the wrong team/side to fight for. As a result, he was never able to live up to his potential and ultimately paid the price. Similarly, Harsha is with the wrong team. His mistake is that he sided with a corrupt team despite himself not being corrupt. Ultimately, in this world, you are judged by whom you associate with. Harsha's weakness is that he isn't taking a strong stand for his views and principles. Yes, that path would be significantly difficult, but it is the only option for him. Unfortunately, his decision to stick with SJB (or previously RW) has cost the country a politician who could represent the center-right economic views in the parliament. Sri Lanka is in dire need of a new center-right political party consisting of politicians who do not have any corruption charges and have a long-term vision for the country. All existing parties are utter failures.

Good Governance is sitting around table talking about things.??? These interviews go round and round. Have this lot ever had to work really hard a day in their lives. Have they been near poverty? Have they had to really struggle? Were they actually in bread queues, petrol queues, gas queues> Have they lifted a broom or mopped a floor? They have drivers, maids, live in highly residential areas and then think they are experts on good governance because they want to be in the lime light as doing something... what a joke! Talk is cheap. Are people are great at talking! They love to sit around discussing, gossiping, slandering, judging

I'm a first-timer to your podcast! Congratulations, loved your conversation. I am grateful to your guest, Mr Hajaaz Hisbullah, for sharing information about his case and giving objective opinions on several other incidents, such as the Easter Sunday bombings, forced burials during COVID-19, etc. and much more, such as constitutional rights, etc. This was a constructive, informative conversation. Several foreign media reporting on the recent elections have cited the NPP's victory was to the economic downturn. They overlooked to report on the atrocities recent regimes have committed against their own people, and at this election, the people stood, up courageously, voting against unlawful arrests, calling for the State to be accountable for those who disappeared, and much more.

I love this Chathuranga, is not afraid to express his view, name names and point the finger when it is proven justified to do so... Why do so many have to interview the same people on the same issues. Sri Lanka not only needs policies for equality and ridding corruption but also proper laws which need to be strictly enforced. Sri Lanka also needs to only have two parties like at the US and rid this Country of all these other parties... as long as every citizen has his/her rights and is able to exercise them and this applies to the entire country - no selective laws. We should also encourage local produce and not completely depend on import for everything. This creates more jobs and gets people out of being lazy. The CAA also needs to play a more active role in ensuring that standards are met and there is no overpricing, which is currently happening.

Ranil and his gang of crooks under his protection are in panic mode with the new president Anura Kumara Dissanayake taking office. Sajith is run by the leftover crooks or the other political corrupt politicians who are not in favor of the other three leading candidates and are awaiting to take control of the SJB and its leadership after his collapse 😅

Prof. Your point about the education system is spot on! We need a drastic educational reform. Today, children are not encouraged to ask questions. Also, the subjects need to be revised. Also hats off for making the point that education and insight means two different things. We will definitely get a system change with neither Ranil nor Sajith running the country, the change that is welcome by the people of this country.

When we talk about education reform we have to also talk about mental health. Are we raising our children in ways that they grow up to be adults who act with integrity, empathy, discipline, honesty etc. to do this we also need adults who are capable of modelling such behaviour. Religion has failed in delivering on this in Sri Lanka. In a country that does not protect your right to not have a religion we have a nation that is largely morally corrupt. Yes there are a few exceptions. But as a rule we lack discipline and integrity. Based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs we can argue that until basic needs are met we can’t think about things like integrity. if we are to develop as a nation we have to focus on mental health and a sense of self. Especially to get rid of this mentality of subservience.
