Entropy, the relentless march of chaos, governs all of existence. In this composition, I use just intonation to represent order, and equal temperament to indicate disorder. The movement from order to disorder is my conceptual path of choice, as whenever I force myself to think in just intonation, I tend to slide back into ‘equal-ish’ temperament, my comfort zone. Since the piece arose from a just intonation seminar, I regard it as order, and my impulse to get back to equal temperament as disorder.
