I’ve been reading tower of god for nearly 7 years now and even I will admit the anime is subpar, but I’d like to clarify that the comparison to HxH is meant in a positive way and I was surprised to hear you say it could be regarded as “HxH but worse.” If the first season wasn’t enough to hook you then the series just isn’t for you, but you should 100% follow that feeling of just reading the manwha. Unfortunately, the first arc of season 2 was already pretty weak, but the anime adaptation made some spotty decisions that made it worse. The biggest complaint you’ll hear for early tower of god is the art style. SIU was not an artist (fun fact: he had come up with the story of tog during his mandatory military service) so all of season 1 and first 4th of season 2 (I believe) is him learning to draw and it’s incredible seeing his work improve as you read the story. If art is a big deciding factor for you then you should probably wait until after season 2 to start reading. I’d recommend watching uncut content videos regarding the stuff that the anime has skipped over so that you don’t miss any information. The story is incredible and seeing the poor animation quality and questionable decisions on what to cut really hurts to see. I just hope we get a better studio next season because this story is just not getting the love it deserves.

I think it's important to remember that we're discussing the anime here, not the source material. And while I'm enjoying ToG, I'd say it's adaptation is pretty clearly lagging behind HxH's. I'd be lying if I didn't also say that the concept for HxH was more interesting to me too. Sorry if that disappoints you! Mike

There has been a lot of great adult animation coming out for the last half decade or so. Castlevania- surprised you didn't mention this as it was one of the first big budget adult animation that wasn't a comedy. Blue Eye Samurai- another great show set in 1600s japan. It wasn't popular when it came out but word of mouth got the numbers to grow enough to greenlight S2. Scavengers Reign-a canceled sci-fi Max animation with such an interesting world and story that didn't draw in enough viewers for the first season that it was canceled. Love, Death, and Robots- fantastic anthology series with each ep being a different animation style. Really showcases different animation studios around the world. These are just some of the great Western adult animations that have come out that tell such interesting stories and I hope we continue getting them too. One big western cartoon I'm sad you didn't mention was Gravity Falls. A fantastic show that kids can enjoy and adults enjoy with humor for both audiences. Then there's the mystery aspect that's perfect for adults to try to figure out too.

Here's my problem with the whole "separating the artist from the art" thing: I think it's bad to monetarily support or to promote these individuals. Read, watch, or listen to their work(s) ill3gally that's fine with me tbh. But if you're giving money to or talking positively online about these works which could then prompt others to give money to a piece of shit then you're part of the problem. If an artist of whatever craft has already passed away, they won't be getting my money so therefore I say enjoy if that's something you're able to do.

EDIT: Because I worry a lot I wanted to clarify that my rant wasn't because anyone said anything that made me upset or anything, you guys are awesome! Its just one of those things I'm passionate about. :). See... Most people are just like, "BROTHERHOOD!!! FMA 2003 DOESN'T EXIST!!!" and I'm just UGH. For many reasons. First of all, the music, is just so magical and nostalgic. But besides that... they skipped over some important stuff in the first series because they assumed that you'd already watched the other series. If they REALLY wanted to make a defenitive series, they should have taken their time and told all those stories again. But many great things are completely ignored that drive me nuts. The ep with the mining town is skipped completely even though the guy Ed swindled shows up and you have no idea why he had a grudge against Ed unless you watched the other series. The ep with Ed and Al on the train where he stopped a criminal on the way to central, that was a great ep. Maes was my favorite character and I feel like Brotherhood barely gives him any screen time, so his death feels a little hollow if you didn't already know him. The impact of meeting Barry The Chopper as a human that tries to kill Ed and Winry really makes it more mennacing when they meed him in warehouse 13. And its easy to hate Tucker for transmuting his daughter and dog, but instead of one episode, in the original Ed lived with that family for 2-3 episodes, so the impact REALLY hit harder. Then there are even a few non cannon things that are still great to see as fans, in particular Ed and Al helping to deliver Maes' daughter. It might not be cannon, but its such an adorable moment. Sorry for my rant XD. I just.... And I even agree that Brotherhood is the "Better" series, I just really wish they would have taken their time and did everything right.

No need to apologize!! The original was beloved for a reason. They also definitely had room in the series to add some of those details, so it's too bad they were left out. - Mike

I LOVE THE THOUSAND YEAR DOOR!!! This is a great remake. I love the few changes they made, but it's pretty much just a peice by peice remake. Talking about keeping a game for 8 weeks and not having late fees and should have kept it... I'll tell you something extremely stupid that happened to me back in 04. I had gotten Pokemon 2000 from the library. All the sudden it came up missing. I ended up having to pay the library $20 for the lost item. A couple months later it turned up. Apparently my mom was babysitting, and she got a bag and picked up their toys and put it in there, and apparently she thought it was theres. What did my dumbass do? ... I took it back to the library. I mean, I PAID for it. I should have kept it! IMO - Best action anime, Fullmetal Alchemist/Brotherhood (Yes brotherhood is 'better', but I still love the original.) Don't do Horror. Music - Beck AKA Mongolian Chop Squad - YES!! Glad Jay knew about this gem. I really love it, It's such a good anime. And I love the music, I have it on my MP3 Player - Though I'm not a big fan of the usual vibe of the band, the songs the main charicters sing I love. Sci-Fi.. there's a lot of interesting choices... I think I gotta go with Space Dandy. ... He's a dandy guy... in space. I looked up Psycological anime and I only watched one on a list of 100 so... I'm gonna skip that one. The Slice of life is hard like you said, because its usually secondary. But I'm going to say My New Boss Is Goofy. This show was really funny, and I highly reccomend it! Have a good week guys!

    • @AniProPod
      @AniProPod 3 месяца назад

Having actually beaten TTYD on Switch at this point, the remake was so good! So many well-needed tweaks were made to the game while still keeping it faithful to the original. MAN! While going back and doing research for this episode, I rediscovered BECK. Like, the moment I saw it I knew, but then going deeper down the rabbit hole, listening to the songs, and feeling the nostalgia wash over me really elevated that. I'd probably have to give the same answer if this were a manga list, and I'm glad to hear you share in the sentiment for the anime! Such a great gem. Ok enough of me babbling haha. Have a great week! - Jay

I really love anime OP's, my absolute favorites are "Ready, Steady, Go!" - FMA, "Odd Future", "Make My Story", and "Starmaker" - My Hero Academia "Get Over" Hikaru No Go, "Dang Dang" - Eyeshield 21, "History Maker" - Yuri On Ice!!, "Hit In The USA" - BECK/Mongolian Chop Squad, "Rakuten" - Dr. Stone... I could go on really.. ^^... (Have to mention though "To All The Dreamers", Yakitate!! Japan second ED is one of my favorites, and have to meantion the BECK/Mongolian Chop Squad original songs "Face" and "Slip Out (A Little More Than Before)" The best dub is Digimon. Fight me. :P. No but like... I had this discussion with someone recently. A lot of people hate it, and I get why, but...at no point in my life would I have heard of the show as is, and it make me want to watch it. The dumb jokes are part of the appeal for me. And even with changing things it still dealt with fairly serious stuff, especially Tamers. It was light when the dub wanted to be, but it still got dark. My Actual answer is... Ghost stories. :P. No but seriously now. I'm a dub person. I have a low attention span. XD. I WILL watch subs, if I really want to watch something that doesn't have a dub (IE Yakitate!! Japan) But I'm slow watching, where as a dub I can binge. Now there ARE dubs that I think are bad, or bad aspects. Personally, I cannot stand the dub voices of Naruto or Luffy, a big reason I stopped watching them. They are just grating and annoying to me. But there aren't a lot of amines I've watched subbed AND dub, only ones that got dubbed later... eh, after thinking for a minute about it, I guess earlier in my anime carrier that happened more, Hikaru No Go, Kenichi: The Mightiest Deciple, OH! Edo Rocket, Ouran HS Host Club, ect. ... Hikaru No Go did an interesting thing. It was dubbed in Canada and they got actual Teenagers/Kids to voice the characters, and... it has mixed results. Particularly one character that is introduced later in the series sounds really annoying, and it's kind of distracting. But Hikaru, and lots of the other characters do feel natual. Ouran I really liked, other than it felt weird, because it was basically a Fullmetal Alchemist reunion. Most of the cast of FMA was a main character in Ouran, with LOTS of minor FMA charicters having guest roles. - Even having Ed's VA call Pinako's VA an old hag, it was funny. - And one of the few voices that joined Ouran that wasn't in FMA joined the dub of Brotherhood. But I do agree with Mike about comedy being better dubbed, I agree with that too. I REALLY want to watch and like Gintama, but I can't get into the subs. Really wish it had a dub. And I'll tell you what, I'm STILL pissed off at Netflix... probibly always will be... I dunno if you ever watched/heard of "The Disasterous life of Saiki K."? It's Hillarious. Well... Netflix took over season 2 and never bothered to dub it... Well, without spoiling, lets just say, there are very often more than one sets of voices going at once, and having to keep up with subs is impossible. Sorry for my rant guys, you guys are awesome!

I'm pretty picky and boring. For the spring season the only thing (new) I've started watching so far is Oblivion Battery. It's interesting. It's really funny and interesting about me, IRL I HATE sports, so boring to me, watching other people throw a ball around. Yet, Eyeshield 21, Hajime No Ippo, (and if you wanna count Hikaru No Go and Initial D? I could see those counting and not counting.) among many others, are my favorites. Funny how I love sports anime so much. I do have Wind Breaker on my list though. Hope you guys are doing well!

I'm sad we don't get more Yuri on Ice, but it's been so long I can't say I'm that surprised. When I started watching anime I was watching Dubbed mainly but as the years went on and I had better internet speeds and was able to see OPs, (And they started leaving the ops in the dubs)... Before 2006, There were several OPs I really really liked liked, Haruka Kanata and Fighting Dreamers from Naruto, Get Over from Hikaru No Go, and Stray from Wolf's Rain, but in 2006 I heard the OP that slapped more than those others, and it's still one of my favorites to this day: Ready, Steady, Go! from Fullmetal Alchemist. That was the one that really made me realize how great they could be. My opinion: (And remember I am a picky watcher...) Best Romance: Toradora. It's not even one of my favorites, but you can't deny how good it is. Best Fantasy Anime: Hikaru No Go Best Drama Anime: Beck AKA Mongolian Chop Squad AKA Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad I haven't watched any mahou shoujo i guess. Mecha: Gurren Lagann Best Comedy anime, for the millionth Time: Yakitate!! Japan. :)

I've been an anime fan since 2002 (I don't count when I found my first or second, when I didn't even know it was called Anime, but when I started branching out.) And it's varied at different times, but through most of the time, I generally rewatch more than I watch new. I know there's been anime that on a rewatch has went both ways. Sometimes better than I remember, some times worse. I watched the Spy x Family movie yesterday. I really loved it. ... Except for one.... thing close to the end... no spoilers. It was a dumb but funny moment... but really dumb... but still funny. If you get the chance to see it, there's a post credit scene, Nothing major, but worth the wait if you aren't in a hurry.

@@AniProPod I hope I didn't cause any trouble with my question 😅 But S1 ends on one hell of a cliffhanger, so I think it's in your best interest to immediately watch on! Glad to hear you'll cover both :D

I love my steam deck! But I agree and it's weird some games only work in desktop mode. For Physical media, I don't have a ton of money, so I only buy my absolute favorite series. Here's what I have (And over 10 years of collecting) : Cowboy Bebop, Space Dandy, Digimon season 1-5 DVDs, Season 1 dub remaster BDs, season 1 sub remaster BDs, Fullmetal Alchemist, FMA: Brotherhood, Ouran HS Host Club, My Hero Academia Season 1-4, all 3 MHA movies, Yuri On Ice!!, Pokemon seasons 1-4, Summer Wars!, and I have the Yakitate!! Japan manga. (I would have the DVDs but long story and many reasons why I prefer the original fansubs to their subs). (That is more than I thought I had...) You guys are awesome!

Ranger Reject does get crazy as we get further in and the best girl and best boy options increase steadily. I don’t remember how far Volume 1 covers, so I’ll be vague. As for the anime, apparently they’re doing a batch release for it, so you can binge it and I’m pretty sure it’ll cover the first big arc. My favorite characters are tied between Jade, Cherub, and Director (these are code names.) D is above them all, of course. 26:09 - The best description is The Boys, but Tokusatsu.

If I'm not wrong here, the reason the actual animation of it was so little was because they didn't have a lot of money to make this anime. That's why they reuse scenes so much, most notably in the opening, cause anime tend to prefer the opening visuals to be unique to it. Also why it took so long for us to know if a season 2 was even happening, it did not exactly make a lot of money.

1:24:33 You should definitely watch the movie(s) when you get a chance, especially since the new movie is coming out this year. The first two movies, Beginnings and Eternal, basically just serve as a recap of the television series with redone voice acting, remade scenes, new music, and new scenes. However, the movies do cut out a decent amount of scenes that were in the original series. The third movie, Rebellion, is the sequel with all-new original work. The fourth movie which is the sequel film to Rebellion, called Walpurgisnacht: Rising, is set to come out “Winter” 2024 in Japan.

Odd taxi is the king, very self-contained and dialogues felt really good! Feels like Chained Soldier isn't really comes to terms until rest of chiefs aren't introduced, still main name villans are quite jobbers. Funnily 100 girlfriends manga came 3 month's earlier then Girlfriend Girlfriend, so in animanga community mind it was the first series to do whole "no losing heroines" ridiculous harem. Although Girlfriend Girlfriend got anime first it's not like they declared everyone would win here, by season 2 it's still Saki Saki and Minase as girlfriends with Shino and Mirika pending. Potential final season 3 that likely won't happen would be quite mixed in reception just like the manga for that period did, the comedy got reduced and it upped the drama levels which btw wasn't that welll written and dragged on, last arc was rough... Meanwhile 100gf still going strong with 27 main characters right now, which is impressive.

The amount of loved showed to Hyakkano here was incredible. I am glad anime made more people notice this peak. It might be "just a very big harem", but it never fails to deliver funny, genuine and heart-felt moments without ever skipping a bit.

When you guys were thinking hard about good EDs it feels like you kinda forgot Undead Unluck one, it has really nice visuals, symbolism, song is thematic, made by veteran director, everything came together. In general I felt the same about this strong season, it was super stacked and besides obvious juggernauts with lots of pre-hype that was delivered on like Frieren, Apothecary Diaries, underwatched yet acclaimed Pluto, my personal favourites that thankfully managed to shine and still talked by the community like harem comedy gem that is 100 girlfriends and battle shounen/shoujo Undead Unluck (though in this case Hulu and Disney jail really hurt it for international fans, feels like it's going to be more recognized in long-term like then manga become). Then you have lots of other good shows and sequels/continuations like still good Spy x Family S2, JJK S2, Magus Bride 2, Eminence S2, Doctor Stone Part 2, nicher good shows like ShangriLa, Overtake! (good character sports drama), Migi Dali (quite a unique one), Ragna Crimson (although the main reason it didn't popped off much is due to anime adaptation being just fine, not doing justice to the source material, better studio would have elevated it for sure) and really more others I heard good things about... Insanely stacked Fall, by comparison Winter is way more subdued although it has some good shows.

I had definitely considered undead unluck for a lot of these awards, honestly. The ED is great, too. It sure was a stacked season, which makes it tough to decide these awards, honestly 😅. Luckily, a lot of those great shows continue into winter. - Mike
