Does English Football have a Problem with Homophobia?
Просмотров 1864 года назад
Only one player has ever come out in English football during their career. The reaction that followed the revealing of Justin Fashanu's homosexuality in 1990, however, has had long-standing ramifications for the game. At amateur level though, there are football teams which openly welcome gay footballers. Village Manchester Football Club (VMFC) is such a club. I had a chat with Steve Joyce, a me...

Man City 4-2 Bolton
Просмотров 2235 лет назад
In their first season post-Allardyce, Bolton Wanderers endured a miserable start to the campaign which saw them win just one of their first 13 games. The appointment of Gary Megson at least made them hard to beat, but they faced a Manchester City side enjoying heavy financial backing from Thai businessman Thaksin Shinawatra. I weaned myself off 5 Live when they gave Alan Green the boot. Shame he hasn’t got a RUclips channel so we could still hear his views on football.
I remember Alan Green commentating on a match even worse than this one; he was virtually pleading that the referee should blow for full-time because everyone had had enough.
I do miss the big game commentary from Alan Green, especially when Jimmy Armfield was alongside him. It was an absolute treat to listen to them both.
Alan Green, the GOAT radio commentator 😎 loved his passion and how well he narrated the on-pitch events. Mark Pougatch was good too.
Up there with the best. Sorely missed on the airwaves.

Love listening to pre-2008 commentary on Bolt. Sometimes they can seem so prophetic. You could see everything he needed to tweak from this race and Coach Mills worked on them. Switching from 400 to 100 made all the difference. Spearmon should have switched from 100 to 400.
I miss his voice
Bruh I really would love to watch this back in 2007 n smile looking at everybody not knowing what this guy will do

That's great. Cheers mate
11:07 To sum it up, yes, Bogdan was fouled by Walters, but Bolton had been a weak side since the 5th matchweek, hovering just above or within the relegation zone. Alan Hansen summed it up, home form is crucial for teams at the bottom. Bolton had only 4 wins at home all season, the second-worst home record, with only Wolves having fewer wins with three. In contrast, QPR won16 points from a possible 18 at home during the run in, beating Arsenal, Tottenham, and Liverpool when they came back from 2-0 to stun Sir Kenny Dalglish's side and all that meant that QPR along with Norwich and Swansea, completed a trio of promoted teams to avoid relegation that season the second time that had happened in Premier League history.
You should be a writer man. Your comments were informative as well as really easy and fun to read :)
Yes you're right mate, bolton paid the price for their shocking home form and qprs remarkable late season home surge 5 home wins in a row, and Bolton suffered relegation from it, west brom home game for Bolton killed them, 2 0 up and then blew the lead to 2 2 for me relegated them that day
@@antcunningham1997 they didn't score enough goals as well because their top scorer was Klasnic with 8 then Kevin Davies with 6 says a lot
@@classicsportclassictiyl8547 I mean they had lost elmander and Daniel sturrige in that summer cause they were brilliant for bolton, and their departure hurt bolton a lot and hurt their firepower upfront

Like Bolton, Wigan Relegated From The Premier League To League Two
Walters touches dogs up
That first goal didn’t relegate us to the championship, nor league 1. That sent us to league 2. We never recovered from that.
until this season thanks to Ian Evatt and Sharron Brittain
TBF tho it shouldn’t have counted as the ball was in the hands of the keeper already
haha bolton this the revenge you when you guys beat leeds 2004 now leeds back to pem you guys sitting on league 2 next season you guys will get relegated from league 2
Relegated from league 2 would we VIVA LA BOLTON were gonna go up to championship
Ted lasso aint keepin you up 😂 leeds are falling apart again
where leeds heading now in 2023/24???😂
This had aged well. Fucking Weeds 😂
The telling aspect of Bolton's season was that when a team is relegated, typically a few players stand out and secure moves to Premier League sides, either to teams being promoted or even to those contending for titles or European spots. For instance, Jordan Pickford moved to Everton after Sunderland's relegation in 2016/17, Shaqiri joined Liverpool following Stoke's drop in 2017/18, and Wijnaldum and Robertson secured moves to Liverpool from Hull and Newcastle respectively after their teams' relegations. Moreover, managers sometimes ascend to larger Premier League clubs; Roberto Martinez moved to Everton after Wigan's relegation in 2012/13, and Marco Silva took over at Watford following Hull's relegation in 2016/17. However, none of Bolton's players, except Jaaskelainen who joined West Ham, managed to move to Premier League clubs, which speaks volumes about the team's struggles that season.
The day that made bolton dead
From Prem to League 2. Peak times for Bolton and their fans are crestfallen.
Paul Jewell certainly told this game as it was Derby was so dreadfully bad in this game Paul Jewell called it "The worst performance I've ever seen from a so called Premier League team" that's the scale of how bad Derby County were that season.
Wasn't a shock that this side got 11 points, its a shock they got that many ffs. It was inhouse sabotage in my opinion, there's no way a professional club can be that badly managed from top to bottom, the players signed were... fook me lets not start. But when you're "marquee" signing is Kenny Miller well... you get what you deserve.
@@therebel4332 dreadful absolutely dreadful they were under prepared beyond belief
Poor refereeing sent Bolton to Championship. Walters clearly fouled Bogdan when he was heading the ball. And it was never a penalty. There is a contact but Crouch went down so easily.
it wasn't this game that sent Bolton down its over the course of the season and as Lineker, Shearer and Hansen said at the end Bolton's home form sent them down only won 4 games at home that season only Wolves had won fewer home games.
@@classicsportclassictiyl8547 Agreed but there is poor refereeing thats for sure.
@@savastepeli4210 also QPR had a goal chalked off against Bolton when it had clearly gone over the line so you could say things even itself out over time
Lol league Two. 🤣
@@themishmash4351 I am not a fan of Bolton mate. I am supporting my local club.
poor officiating, bolton shouldve won to put pressure on qpr so that qpr wouldve tried harder against man city
The qpr players didn't know about it at the time only the fans
@@alexander92179 Some players were aware moments before Aguero scored the decisive goal; the QPR bench's eruption indicated their knowledge, and the QPR fans present knew as well. Niall Quinn, during the Sky Commentary, noted, "QPR fans are jumping up and down; maybe there's more favorable news for them." Similarly, Steve McManaman, commentating with Iain Darke on an international feed, observed that the QPR bench celebrated wildly just before Aguero's goal, aware that Bolton had not won. However, players like Nedum Onuoha, Shaun Derry, and Shaun Wright Phillips were unaware on the pitch, initially believing Aguero's goal had relegated them, until they saw 3000 QPR fans celebrating Aguero's goal. Martin Tyler mentioned in the documentary "93:20" on City's Official RUclips channel that a member of Mark Hughes' backroom staff was at the game, tracking the score and communicating it to the QPR bench at the Etihad, which likely informed their celebrations. Bolton, on the other hand, could only blame themselves for squandering a 2-0 lead against West Brom the previous week, with West Brom equalizing in the final minutes through James Morrison, and Djibril Cisse's last-minute winner against Stoke compounded their woes, as a victory would have lifted them out of the bottom three.
@@classicsportclassictiyl8547 Bolton shouldve get 3 points against WBA. They wouldve jump out of bottom of the table.
