Great tips, thank you.u
You are so welcome!
I’ve been looking for a good one to make forever thank you this video helped me a lot😊
Your very welcome. Come back and let me know how it turned out.
On the entrance to the trap sure a wire pencil holder. It's the same wire mesh and it's tapered...
That’s a great idea. I have some that I need to add to them.
Good idea. Crawfish are plentiful and can be found in nearly any body of fresh water whether stream, pond, or lake. If SHTF, this kind of stuff can help you survive.
That’s kind of why I started fishing. Great skill to have.
This is great, I'll have to check my local laws to see if I can build one to use.. thanks
Always good to check local laws.
You looked to be realing too fast for jigging. But I could be wrong lol. Good stuff Maynard!
Ya I was. That clip was after I had been jigging. I tried different speeds to see if I could get a reaction.
Good content 👍
Thank you. If there’s anything you want to see in a future video let me know.
Glad I was able to help and see the other side while stuck at camp!
I’m sorry buddy. You are a rockstar for helping us out.
Do some research on how to handle a trout properly
If we catch and release we handle much different. However we cooked this one up.
Thank you
Your welcome
Grand trap design. Thanks for sharing. I plan on building about 6 of these tomorrow when dollar tree opens up,with a few minor modifications. Will let you know how it goes.
That sounds great, how did they turn out?
A hangman’s knot would also work for securing the rope to the trap, and then you don’t have to use the shrink tubing and zip ties. I personally use the same knot when putting on a hook or swivel on my fishing rod. And another thought, Dollar tree also sales paracord that is a little stouter than that plastic rope.
I like that idea, it would help to be able to remove the rope.
Thank you for showing us how to build a crayfish trap and you showed us how to make it so cheaply.
Your very welcome. Hope you have fun building one of your own.
Caught a bunch of Dad’s last week on the homemade trap…. I suspended a box inside for the bait so the dad’s have to crawl inside to get to the bait… I also used the top of a bottle as a cone on each end…. it worked… thanks for the video!
That’s absolutely amazing. Glad you got a bunch. I need to revisit this and show my catch of craws.
MacGyver..thanks for sharing...
Your welcome.
The Amazon trap is now 9 bucks. Can't beat that
That’s cool.
You really need to bait your traps with a type of oily fish we use herring we catch skipjack herring at a dam on the Alabama river about 10 minutes from the house
I have used some tuna in oil. I will try some herring or sardines if I can. Look forward to another video coming soon. I hope to film one this weekend.
How about using some wire mesh from your local hardware store instead of all the chinese made plastic junk from the dollar store. Ya I get it, things are expensive. BUTT, if you just have a little patience and support your local stores and buy USA made materials, things will get better and cheaper in the future. Crayfish don't give a shit what your trap is made from, but you should.
These wire baskets are not plastic. They are wire baskets coated in a black plastic type paint. It’s not a matter of things being expensive either. It’s just a matter that you could make something on the cheap if you wanted to.
Boo. Someone messed with your traps. Boo. People suck
That’s what I said. I just need to hide them better.
Thanks for sharing your Dollar store crawfish trap and I also like some of the tips left by viewers...
Thank you for the comment. My viewers have great advice.
You need to get some black or camo rope so no one takes your trap
That’s a great idea. At first I thought it was a otter or something but second thought was that a otter isn’t going to coil the rope up. The other trap was empty as well and looked like it had been pulled earlier.
And put your traps around a rocky place they hide under those rocks
I am absolutely flabbergasted. I have over 20k views on this video. Thank you all for the support. Add a comment of what you all want to see in other videos.
Pool noodles work great for floats.
Yes they do. It’s just easier to put your fishing ID number on the bottle.
Big Hawaiian punch type bottles might work as your float instead of 2 literally bottles. They have the rectangle handle so you don't need to compromise the air in the bottle. My father in law uses one with chicken, string and a hook to catch the snapping turtles in his pond.
That could work as well. I used the ones I had on hand. They work great. I actually have another video coming out for an update on these traps.
Hey was just wondering, what do you think about pillow traps? Would they work as good as these cylinder traps?
Pillow traps are good for setting by hand so the hole isn't the wrong way. But if you don't know how deep the water is or if you don't have waiters use a cylinder so it doesn't matter what side it lands on if you throw it out.
Pillow traps work just as well if not better in some situations. These small cylinders are for smaller spots. You can also place these by hand if you choose to. I’ll be shooting a new video and show different ways of placing these.
I'm so happy that you saved me money on traps! It's a little fun project to do at home too!
They are super easy and fun to build.
Exactly what i did. I used some wire mesh for the funnel openings
I ended up not adding the funnels yet. I want to revisit this video and make a upgrade video
Bluegill works good for bait also.
I just uploaded a video with a mystery box unboxing that had the perfect bluegill bait. I am going to revisit this video in the future and use different bates and see what works.
Awesome video, doing this with the kids tomorrow.
Come back and let me know how it turns out,
Great idea. 👍👍 I will definitely try it. Dollar store here I come😊
Hope to hear how it works out for you. If you do something different let me know what.
For sure. I want to try using crawfish for bait.
I hear it is great for trout
Tuck the rope on the trap end back through itself 3 times if you don't know how to splice. Then you do not need a ZIP tie or heat shrink. After using our traps a few times, we did not get many crawfish? When we swam over the trap lines, we found 50-100 chewing on the lines which had been contaminated with the smell of bait by keeping them in the trap as you do. Bad idea. We now use a short loop to tie to on the trap and keep the line in a clean bucket during transport. Our traps fold open at the center so they nest for storage and transport.
That’s great advice. I haven’t had many problems with mine doing that but I can definitely see that happening.
wrap tie around rope twice before pulling tight will hold more without slipping
That’s a good idea. I may make another video with viewer suggestions. Thanks a bunch.
Actually a great idea, thanks for the info I’ve just subbed, looking forward to more videos.
I thank you for your kind words. I have subscribed to your channel as well.
Another one of your great ideas.
Thank you very much.
Very innovative method with the two cameras. Well done.
I’m slowly working on getting better with my edits.
Awesome cages bro
Thanks brother.
Good info bro 👍 I was actually going ta get a trap at Bi-Mart but, think I'll hit the Dollar Tree instead 👊
Did you end up making one? How did it turn out?
Try using cut tilapia or some other oily kind of fish.
I hear chicken works really well.
That’s essentially 3/4 mesh right? Insanely retarded regulations here in AR.....we can only have a 2” opening.
So sorry for the late response. I’m not sure on the measurements but you can always measure it at the store you get them from. The hole at the end is still pretty small. Nice part is you can customize it so that it fits regulations.
The garden plant ties are also @ the dollar store.
Yes you are correct. I just happened to have some already.
Cool i found this video after i ordered trap from amazon. Next stop dollar store
Super cheap and easy to build these. Let me know how it turns out.
Nice! Gonna build one tomorrow 👍
Hope you send a pic of the one you build.
Look into maybe a fish finder for your kayak, try doing some lure fishing
Thanks for the idea. I’ll look into that. I also have a lot of different lures. I will touch on those in a later video.
That's a cool trap, but it wouldn't be legal in Washington State, but with Rot Cord instead of the bread tie, it would be legal.. That's for sharing this trap.
Your right about that. I know for a crab trap in Cali you have to have something like that but it doesn’t say for crawfish.
Ive done my part sir i loved it huggg
Thank you very much. Keep an eye out for my next video in two weeks.
Since it has been brought to my attention by a viewer I will address this. Always check the regulations in the state and area you live. This trap is made for California regulation. Other states won’t allow this type of trap. Thank you for the information 99neworleans.
I've been searching (and will continue doing so, though I am certain I once knew) the regs for trap regs for Iowa. But I know in some states they will treat you like committed the worst felony imaginable if your traps aren't up to code lol.
Looks like the winner is angelcrz4dogs. Get ahold of me and I’ll get the crab snare out to you.
Nice Snare. Did you make that one?
Yes I did. This will be the snare I’m giving away.
Just remember Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries crawfish traps requirement has to be 3/4 by 11/16 square, or larger, a three-quarter inch hexagon chicken wire or larger, With a $15 trapping License up for 35 traps Max, Telling the agent you didn't know that will not get you out of a $250 fine
Thanks for the information. This trap is built for California. I really do appreciate the information. Thank you.
I definitely need a mic. Got one ordered and on the way. I’m sorry for the poor audio.
