It was over the day Mo hired Oli. He was promoted to a position he did not earn or deserve. He knows it and so do the players. My guess is that most of the players and all of the veterans have very little respect for him or the process that put him in charge of a once admired team. The guy is not even comfortable in his own skin. Most of his moves are based on how they will make him look. His tough guy move with O’Neal and then Contreras shows just how shallow and unprepared he is for the job.

The cardinals put themselves in a tricky spot with Mikolas. He is making 18 million that is hard to trade and just cut especially if payroll is limited. I don't think anyone will want him even if we did eat most of the contract. But if we do cut him I think we could spread that cap hit for multiple years.

Miles Mikolas's attitude is a contributing factor to his performance. He has become a prima dona, great outlook when things are looking good on the field, but cranky and edgy as soon as a little something goes wrong. You pointed out one noteworthy example: muscling up to throw three consecutive pitches in the high 90s after being called for an obvious balk. As for Ryan Hellesley, I would say sit back and wait to see what changes are coming with the Cardinals' front office. My preference would be to pursue an extension with him this offseason, and let's hope some restructuring brings about some philosophical changes in the organization.

I agree that it makes no sense to DFA Miles. He has no trade value and if DFA'd nobody picks up that contract. There is a case that his presence will cast a pall on the team. What does that do to a team when you're down 5 before you come to bat. He gives you innings, but only in blowout games. I dunno, what are you gonna do?

The Cards have demonstrated many times they won’t do what’s needed to players locked in to money and/or players who’ve been around a couple years. Miles and Matz will be the 4/5 next year. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if Pallante is isnt in the rotation with the way Mo manages the team.
