I began going to Sunderland in the early 70’s in order to renew my PPL. The club used the Victa Airtourer . I could only afford to fly the minimum of 5 hours a year, and took a weeks holiday and a bank loan in order to do it !! Eventually I bought a 1/12th share in Émeraude G-ASCZ and that enabled me to build up my hours, eventually enabling me to leave engineering and follow a commercial flying career. The atmosphere at Sunderland was fantastic, both fixed wing and the parachuting fraternity, centred around the clubhouse run by Margaret and Lee Banburgh. I have many many fond memories of those days, and enjoyed this video very much.
