as an old school anime fan to me anime is not represented solely by shonen or isekai but more by all the weird stuff you talked about in this video because animation in general doesn't have to suffer the limitations of live action which makes it perfect for showing all this weird stuff that live action could never come close to showing as emphatically that being said I also don't want anime to be only weird stuff I do like the beautiful drawings and all the sakuga as well but I never want the weird to not be there because having it be part of anime's identity as well makes it so much more well rounded and I like when things and people are well rounded but hey that is just me!

had no idea there was another show like this, I still love baccano and durarara so I will at least give this show a chance because it sounds bad but it also might surprise me you never know

very fun video to watch especially for someone like me who did actually keep up with the show but never read the manga heck I still listen to the music of the show and not just the openings and endings but the actual bgm as well! I can even think of multiple chinese restaurants that I have been in and they are playing nice soft music only to realize that some of it is from naruto which always makes me chuckle!

To me, scoring has always been tricky. I have been into anime for over 13 years and I can not tell you how many times I have tried thinking of a "scoring system" that suited me but these days, I usually tend to sit and think about the score since I have a much clearer idea of what I went through (plus it's better than saying "it was good, 7/10" since it doesn't give that much of a discussion from personal experience)

Another one I'd like to include is Harumi from Paranoia Agent!! It's an amazing series, I highly suggest you watch it sometime <3

IDK for me this was all flash and very little substance. The first 5 minutes are fantastic, the animation is stellar throughout, but the rest falls pretty flat and it only gets worse as the story goes along. After we get a great setup explaining the dynamic of these characters in the first few minutes, with Momo getting dumped by her asshole ex and inadvertently saving Okarun from his bullies only for him to sperg out about aliens to her.... we then have a retarded DOUBLE MONOLOGUE in the middle of the bombastic fight scene where both characters explain in painful detail what we've already learned about them. And this is the SECOND time they've reiterated this, after they basically had the same conversation over the phone a few minutes earlier. Even though we already understood all of this shit in the first 3 minutes. I'm getting GATE flashbacks On top of Momo getting sexualized during her near-rape scene, where the story gives zero fucks about her feelings in this moment, it then expecting us to cry while we hear her sobstory for the 5th time a minute later, just sets my expectations very low. And having read the manga, I know it unfortunately just becomes increasingly generic shonen trash as it goes along. Momo and Okarun never make any meaningful progress in their relationship, new characters keep getting added who have one-note personalities and got thrown on the backburner indefinitely after their introductory arc. Every female character is in love with the protagonist, and the wacky super-powers are quickly reduced to just being a basic ass Super Saiyan mode that simply makes you strong/fast/durable with zero technique or limitations

I was a big fan of your content when you were still Digibro. Your anime analysis videos and GoatJesus too was some of the best I’ve ever seen. You inspired me to blog and take writing more seriously and eventually I grew enough courage to now be a content creator myself. You made me think more analytically and look at life differently. Concepts like lateral thinking you introduced were ingenious. Ironically YOU were the one who helped me grow out of anime for the most part. I’ll watch it a little bit here and there now but you inspired me to grow and try out different things in life. I also went through lots of stages and versions of myself. I can now safely say I’m a different person than who I was back then when I was watching your old videos but you were apart of my journey indirectly to get here. I also understand now Digibro was just a persona you created. I get it now since I had to make a creator persona for myself too. This video really does take me back to golden age anime RUclips. Thank you for everything and I real hope you’re doing better now.

I got into Naruto really late. Late 20s. Watching low quality streams of the Naruto anime. A younger friend of mine introduced me to it. I quickly jumped to reading the manga instead. Honestly, I'm like 10 years older than Trixy. I was watching anime in the 80s, Speed Racer was my first anime. But from around 2000 to 2010 I only caught a little anime because I just didn't have cable TV that entire time period. I was extremely poor and even living on the streets from around 19 to my earlier 30s. Occasionally having a regular job and place to live but living paycheck to paycheck. I didn't have a father and my mother died when I was 16. So I was in foster care until I was 18. With no family or friends I ended up on the streets whenever I didn't have a job. So while I grew up watching anime I didn't really know it was from Japan until I was an adult. I've certainly watched a ton of shorter anime, but for long running shounen I've really just preferred to read the manga. Naruto was a great manga to read. Even when it gets to the long ass war arc at the end. I could never sit through the filler filled anime though.

Highly recommend reading Mitsuru Adachi's Touch! The anime is pretty good as well but will take a lot longer to get to the great psychological explorations than the manga. Also the anime's ending somewhat misses the point. I think Tatsuya has an incredible narrative arc of depersonalization and is a fantastic example of a character with a less over-the-top depiction of DID. While I think the anime isn't quite as perfect as the manga, there's still a lot of charm if you wanna go that route.

when i was a kid i dissociated a lot but it didn't feel like a different persona, more like i was distant, like my consciousness was watching everything from a third person, like i was trying to masturbate with thick rubber gloves, the action is the same but there is no heat. Watching lain for the first time was probably what adults who turn into lifelong christians feel when they accept jesus.

I can’t help but feel like this is just like the ADHD fad with people using these diagnoses’ (plural) to build their identity out of. Yes it is easy to feel like you are “disassociated” when you spend a lot of time on the computer.

This is such an awesome topic to cover. Now that you mention it, they really do all share that common link. I really want to see an anime about moving on from dissociation as well.
