weird, why were so many people claiming its rigged and people wanted wukong when majority of people in this compilation supported Astrobot or were neutral about it. Like always just the loud minority complaining again.

If any other games had won, the negativity wouldn't have been this bad. Many gamers are shocked Astro Bot won and think it's biased because it's: A game with a low player base compared to the other nominees. A game exclusive to PlayStation, almost like a mascot for the platform. This year is Sony's 30th anniversary and TGA's 10th anniversary. Nominated but not even in the top 5 for Joystick's Ultimate Game of the Year. Only an 8-hour game (10 hours at best). How can a game that wasn’t even a top-5 contender in other GOTY awards suddenly rise to the top and beat the rest? Isn’t that enough to warrant suspicion? To everyone saying Astro Bot won because of its originality, you must not have played Mario. Astro Bot is essentially a rip-off of Mario, borrowing ideas from Mario games or even WALL-E. If you’ve played both, you’d see there isn’t a single original concept in Astro Bot. It's a good game but it's not GOTY.

I think Astro Bot won because you've got a lot of aging people on the panel who are raising young kids who are of the perfect age to play a game like Astro Bot and so they are enjoying the game but also enjoying their kids playing the game.

I simply love adults dudes and gals to see cheering when Swen read AstroBot. Almost all of them also saw a message to Sony and PS too which is true. Great show.

Congratulations Team Asobi for shattering expectations that only realistic-looking RPGs and MMOs only get GOTY awards. Astro Bot absolutely deserves it! I wish I could play it but I don't have a PS5 (too broke to buy one, and no employer wants me to work, I guess)

the only people that are hating astro is for: 1- they dont play it yet (main reason) 2- his favorite game dont win so they are hating for free 3- is a exclusive sony ps5 game so people that hate sony hate astro by default (beleave me i´v see some people like that)

People who are surprised never played Astro it’s amazing it’s literally up there with Mario that’s why it won. Mario wins game of the year all the time.

Astro Bot didn't win just cause it's a really good platformer, it won because it quite literally perfected it's genre. While Wukong and Rebirth are expansive and ambitious games, Astro Bot took on a different genre with different values and requirements to be good. In the realm of 3D platformers it nailed EVERYTHING. Super responsive and tight controls, fun and creative level design, catchy music, amazing visual direction both in the world and the portrayal of 30 years of playstation history, replayability, a fantastic balance of difficulty that makes it fun for all ages, a shit ton of content and collectibles that actually feel rewarding and fun to collect and to top it all off it utilizes both the contoller and it's hardware insanely well being one of the technically more impressive games on the system. All of this is why it won. You can be ambitious all you want, but Astro Bot won with pure passion. The amount of joy and fun inside that game is something that rivals the likes of Mario at his PEAK. Astro Bot might actually be on the same level as Super Mario Galaxy, it's THAT good. While TGA is full of shit in many ways I think both TGA and all the people who voted decided on Astro Bot because of what the game had given them. Fun. It is the purest form of fun we have seen in gaming in a long time, even Nintendo hasn't in recent years been able to achieve this level of pure fun where you just cannot help but smile when you play the game. Creating a product that can give people joy on a level like that is absolutely deserving game of the year. What does game of the year mean? Does it mean the game with best voice acting, most well executed combat system, best story writing, most expansive and highly detailed worlds? Or does it mean the FIRST game you think about when you think "hmmm what games came out that year?" When I think of last year I think of Baldurs Gate 3, everyone was talking about it and it was getting insane praise everywhere you looked. It became iconic to the year it came out, which in turn makes it the game of that year. Now for this year, everyone has been talking about Astro Bot despite it only coming out a few months ago. It managed in that short time to wow everyone. It has 94 on meta critic, it has multiple videos explaining why it's so good, it managed to basically be everywhere after it came out because of how damn good it is. At the very end of the year, it managed to take all the attention of the gaming industry because it had managed to not only stand up to old beloved platformers that many would claim is a quality of the past that companies will not make anymore, but also trash on that very thought and be probably even BETTER than some of the best old platformers that are deeply loved. It has certainly left a giant mark on the gaming industry in 2024 and for that I think it is absolutely deserving of being this years Game of The Year. Astro Bot is the best game of its genre, a flag raiser if you will. Not a single moment of the game felt dull. And the game kept giving me new experience. Seriously, this is the most enjoyable game I have ever played in my nearly 3 decades of playing games.

I AM ASTRO BOT!!!!!!! As a mostly pc gamer, Astro Bot is the only console exclusive that made me even consider getting a PS5. Game looks insanely fun in the playthru's I've seen and even then, I still want to play it some day.

IT's clear that a lot of these gamers, especially the bigger ones don't wanna come off as "weak/uncool" for liking the cute colorful family game. They really need to take a step back and understand how important this is for gaming as a whole. Astrobot is the games they grew up with. It's a dying breed. Nintendo is the only one breathing life into the genre that's not an Indie company. 3d Platformers have been fading into the past of gaming more and more each year. Replaced by Call of Duty #53535, or Soulsborne game #45646644747, or Open World Game #4565475784757548768. I love me an open world game. I don't like call of duty, and I genuinely feel like soulslike games are a tired and at points harmful genre of games. But a simple 10-12 hour collectathon. With funky beats, perfect platforming gameplay... it makes me feel like a kid on my PS2 again. It's a core genre of gaming that's been phased out for by the numbers military shooters, Hero shooters, Battle Royals, Soulsborne, Open World, Microtransaction filled stuff we've been getting for over a decade now. Astrobot is like a pure representation of pure "Gaming". It's fun first and foremost. It's easy to get into, easy to play, easy to beat. It's there for one thing. Fun. It's not there to make you made and fight a boss for 5+hours straight. It's just there to relax you, and make you smile. And that's important.

To see whether GOTY is fair or not, just switch the position -- if Astro Bot was developed by Game Science, and Black Myth Wukong was developed by Sony; where the little platformer game has 10 hours and sold only 1 million copies, while Sony's BMW has 60+ hours gameplay and sold 30 million copies. in that case, which game do you think would actually got the GOTY? 😢
