My grandpa hobo'd from Nocona, TX. to Northern CA. He said the hobos in every jungle took him under their wings showed him the ropes and protected him from bad men. He said the only time he feared for his life was when he was riding on top of a train in Tehachapi CA He said he layed down flat and he could feel the tunnel rubbing his shirt. He said but the smoke is what almost done him in. I used to think about him everytime I'd haul calves to Bakersfield. And see that train tunnel and the black soot on the outside top of the tunnels exit. He raised me since I was 13 we were fishing and hunting buddies and loved him till he died. I think of him when Jerry Jeff sings Stoney and Desperados Waiting for a Train😢❤

I'll add another comment, after 9 years. I wait for Eliza's reference to the man she knew she would marry because he flung himself into the water of the Wildewood Spring. It brings the song, in the third movement, to the closely personal. It's a deep, almost overwhelmingly beautiful touch to the honesty of this song. One of my favourite songs from any singer; a masterpiece.

Beautiful song. And I have felt a kinship with her. She was married to Eric Taylor (not me though) and as if that isn't enough, if she had taken her husband's name, my mother's married name was Nancy Taylor. I had always hope to meet her some day and introduce myself, "Please don't hate me. My name is Eric Taylor.

It's 1980 again and I'm listening to Jerry Jeff in concert in Adelaide, South Australia, twin city to Austin, TX. I live on farmland now, an old man too poor to give up his office job. But in my dreams, at least, I've always rambled highways a free man with Scamp and Stoney.

I think this song means . I believe this song signifies that there was a time when he deeply loved her , but now his feelings have changed . She is beginning to notice his lies , and the trust between them is broken . It is likely that they will repeat this cycle again . However , in her dreams , she imagines that everything will eventually be resolved . As the sun sets on the other side of town and the world sleeps . I will quietly leave your life because you no longer want me . I will take my belongings , return your key and and leave you with your ring while I hold onto my memories . Despite the heartbreak , it is better to end the relationship than to endure constant tears and lies . In my dreams , everything will be alright as I still hold you close . Maybe it is for the best to take a little break from this love , but will always be willing to return if you ask . Farewell , it seems that our relationship has come to an end , leaving me feeling saddened yet , in my dreams , I believe that things will eventually fall into place as I hold you in my arms . In My Dreams
