Japanese Columbia 26992 (c. 1948)
Просмотров 73 часа назад
In response to a Craigslist ad, I bought a box of over 100 Japanese-language records which were stored in a garden shed in Burnaby, B.C. Most seem to be from the post-WWII era but prior to the 1950s. Not being able to read Japanese, I have no idea of any of the content. Scans of some of the labels in the collection have been added.

Not quite able to parse the lyrics as yet. The lettering running across the torso of the female holding up the disc reads: "You'll sure love the rhythm."

Found in near-mint condition. As far as I can gather the 'song' refers to a wedding ceremony where men other than the husband kiss the bride.
The Original Memphis Five: Static Strut (1926)
Просмотров 32316 часов назад
A lively recording from the Jazz Age, obviously meant for lively dancers of the 'strut,' a 'proud or haughty' style. 'Darktown strutters' were dancers in the cakewalk style in the Black sections of American cities.

I would love to hear them. If you upload them, with time I am sure the listeners and collectors will help you with the transliterations. Or maybe you can upload a long collection of them in one video. The first three, for example, are: 0:20 流行歌謠曲集 (Ryūkōka uta kyokushū) 0:29 あの日の船はもう来ない (Ano hi no fune wa mō kona) by Misora Hibari 0:36 偉人傳 (Ijinden) Part of the difficulty, at first, is figuring out which labels to read from left to right and which from right to left (usually the older ones).
Jack died a few years ago.
Yes, recently found that out. Thanks! Ted
L'influence hawaïenne est très présente ici, les cow-boys rêvaient aux vahinés en 1950 ?
The strange title brought me here, but it's all instrumental. We need an anthropologist to explain this!
🎶💖🎶
Fine .
Recorded on March 25, 1942.
Thanks for the info! Ted
You're VERY welcome!
C'est l'hiver, les chats dorment près du feu de bois 😊
Knockout! Any details of band members?
Sorry, not that I can find as yet. Ted
Isn't this a pseudonym for Nathan Glantz and his Orchestra?
your collection is very impressive- -keep up the great work--this is what engineers and collectors dream about
Thank you so much for the kind words, glad you appreciate. Lots more to come, of all kinds! Best, Ted
Eh?
Recorded on April 16, 1926. Red Nichols, trumpet Miff Mole, trombone Dick Johnson, alto sax Frank Signorelli, piano Ray Bauduc, drums
A long was from "Old Shep."
Both sides of this record are first-rate classic jazz. Many thanks for the share.
Agreed! Thank you sir.
Superb classic jazz! Interesting how they maintain the elements of Dixieland while slipping in suggestions of rock and roll. Thanks for the share.
This is exactly what i needed today, thanks! 🐸
Nice comment! Thank you! Ted
Would love to hear some of the recordings of the beautiful labels displayed. Keep up the good work! Thanx for your posts.
Will do! Thanks for the encouragement. Ted
tres bon chanteur avec de nombreux tubes de son vrai nom Giovanni Dominico Scafone mort le 12 décembre 2019
Reminds you of chips boogie Woogie by woody Herman ?
Yes it does! Thanks, Ted
Recorded on September 21, 1951.

Red Nichols takes over the name and most of the personnel for 15 sides in 1927-28. Phil Napoleon replaces Nichols for 12 sides in 1928-29 with the Dorsey brothers and Benny Goodman showing up on some sides. Finally in Feb. 1931, the name is used for 4 sides by the group that also records at that time as Benny Goodman's Orchestra.
Brian Rust, Jazz Records, gives: Dick Johnson,cl-as,dir; Leo McConville,c; Miff Mole, trb; Arthur Schutt, p; Tony Colucci,bj; Joe Tarto, bb; Vic Berton,d , NY Aug. 28,1925
Thank you very much! Ted
Good but not as good as the Rays
I usually hate these non-copyrighted "B" sides, but this one is cute. Singer is Arthur Fields, so it may indicate a Fields & Hall musical group, and the composer credit may be bogus as well. Thanks, Ted!
Thanks very much for the info. Agree with your comment! Best, Ted
Wow, bet that's "Bob Crewe" (Which I saw on most/all of my Four Seasons 45's)
Yep. Bob Crewe with Frank Slay, who also composed songs for the Swan and XYZ labels (Slay & Crewe owned XYZ Records, who recorded The Rays.)
Remind me of choir at school.❤❤
😎That's a pretty cool🦊 song.
il venait manger chez nous sur la national 7 à Montélimar. j'était petit.
Un joli souvenir !

Great thanks
🎀ooo much dreamy sweet sweet 🌹velvet 🌈
1946 was the year where lyrics meant something different and the music was out of sight.1946 the year of groove & jive,my kind o'stuff.
This is a real toe-tapper! I'm surprised it didn't make it on to the 1946 Billboard Top Singles!
Personally I like the scream at 1:18! Best, Ted
Yes, Yes, Yes ...
At last! Thanks a lot. For many years I've known only live version on ill-produced live record.
Analog awesome.
