What would happen if Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream and Tang Xianzu’s The Peony Pavilion, two classics of world theatre, were combined? Staff of the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies at the Education University of Hong Kong decided to find out. Working with student actors, they wrote a play centred on four Hong Kong young people, with supernatural characters from both literary classics. A performance was planned for 2019/20, but due to the pandemic, it was impossible to perform the play. As an alternative, a radio play with still photographic illustrations was created. It has now been launched online.
