I remember micky Bennett and Tony Bennett there good old days

I went to Major Lester school on Walton Breck road in the late 40's and the class would walk up Beacon Lane to the library and get books for our reading. It was a beautiful building then, but I was too young to appreciate it. Everything has changed so much since then.

i see this building out of the starboard window on Merseyrail train from Liverpool Central to Southport just as we approach 'BankHall' station. always thought it must have some history..it does stand out even derelict.

I love these types of building as they hold more history than the history books tell us. It's so sad to see it rotting away but this is a common site now in our towns and cities. Great detailed video thanks for sharing😊

There were three pubs on Bankhall, This one was known to the natives as the Bankhall. There was also the Hangsman half way down and the Griffin at the bottom. I remember being told that this was also sometimes called the Hangsman. I think this was in some way connected to the Kirkdale jail.

I was born on St John's Rd nr 70 yrs ago.

Always wondered what it was, looking up from the train on my way to either to Southport or maybe Kirkby. Can see the corner spire from the train line. Great shame to see so many pubs around Liverpool with great structure crumbling.

Used to be one of ours, we had the lease on it prob around 2000 to 2005, squatters got in upstairs after we sorted the place out.

Great video 👍 really enjoyed, used to have a workshop just behind the pub , I remember the royal getting painted in about 1989 (exterior ) looked fabulous I was jealous I wasn’t painting it (I’m a painter & decorator)😊

The problem with this, and many other abandoned buildings in Liverpool, is that they are Grade 2 Listed, which basically means it will cost millions of pounds to restore it. With that, developers don't want to spend months seeking approval from English Heritage to replace a brick or a door handle, and being watched with every step they make.

Used to live 5mins from there until 2005. I used the barbers next door too. On bankhall st was Forticrete I worked for them on bridle road near the giro. Good memories. Subbed 👍

Used to call in there on the way home from Anfield on match days. Served a great pint of bitter, Walkers I think.

i love the red bricks, if i had the money. id make into a liverpool experience pub. i just dont innerstand it, investors were are you. how far is it from both football clubs.

Liverpool Cathedral also houses the heaviest ring of change ringing bells in the world. The tenor bells wieghs 82 cwt . There are 13 bells , but the most you can ring is 12, the extra bell is to form a light octave. Also the tower houses a very large bell called Great George, it is over 14 tons and does not swing but is hit by a clapper that is pulled by rope in the r8nging room. The belfry is huge, not only in area but also height as it is around 90 feet tall. Sadly the bells do not sound good due to the belfry being an accoustic nightmare due to its size . It was built between 1840-60 as the local maps dont really give an accurate date. Bradwell Street was originally Eliza Street and Westminster Road was Bootle Lane. Hope this helps. Edit: just seen someone comment its 1910. Unsure of if its the same building but theres been a PH on that site for over a hundred years. Sefton Arms mentioned around 1880.

So many abandoned buildings in Liverpool,but also so much regeneration,growing up in Liverpool pubs were landmarks,another sorry looking building is Everton Library,thanks for these videos i lived in the area in the 60s and 70s so sad to see it in decline,
