My walk along the route of an old drove road through what the information sign describes as "remote sparsely populated, potentially dangerous mountain country" on Skye. Is that a fair description? Did I miss my bus connection at Kinloch?

Thanks very much! Interesting. I was a student at Thornbridge between 1966 and 1969 and so Great Longstone was very familiar to me. Since then my husband, daughter and I stayed very often at a little place called 'Two Bears', one of the cottages you described as weaving shops on Victoria Terrace. My ancestors lived in Great Longstone but originally were from Eyam. They were Mortons and two survivors of the plague, Matthew Morton ans Sarah Furness. After their original spouses were killed by the plague, they married each other. They're my 8th Gr.Grandparents!
Hi Frank. I hope you’re ok. Do you have an up to date email address to get in touch ? I just wanted to say a massive thank you to you for all your help with the castleton garland ceremony. My great great grandmother was Annie Partington and you helped me immensely. Please get in touch. I did try your email but it bounced back. Thank you Samantha Forsyth
So beautiful vintage vid about the queen visit to NZ. RIP the queen. Cheers guys from lake Titicaca Peru
It’s probably a silly question… but where did/does all the water come from?
A beautifully presented and thoroughly engaging video worthy of being on TV instead of much of the shite that's on it now. I've been putting off watching watching this for ages, but really enjoyed it when I finally got round to it. I can't imagine how much work went into its production, and the inclusion of historic film and audio interviews made it really special. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome video and very informative , someone has been very busy putting this together and may i say it was well worth it i loved it Thank you
Upstart american 😉 thanking you for this video tyvm
Brilliant video. A lot of work must have gone in to obtain all the necessary photos and videos in order to produce this interesting and informative documentary, a great watch.
Loved it!
Thanks very much for making this film and doing all the research for it, I found it to be very interesting! I live in Derbyshire and in the past I have often worked at the dams for Severn Trent Water. The biggest and most interesting job was to clean out the Ashopton Cyphon which had got a fair bit of silt and sludge in it. I was a machine driver in those days and I cleaned it out with a Poclain 12T 360° excavator... I even caught a couple of trout fish in the bucket which I took home for my tea!
This is an amazing documentary. Using voices of those who lived there with their photographs, how the developments took place and those responsible and the purpose of those reservoirs to supply water to towns in that part of the country. Incomparable social history! Thank you so much.
This is brilliant. Thank you
Very interesting film with so many fascinating historical facts. I cannot help thinking he would have been a Boy Scout District Commissioner in the UK rather than the USA as your illustration shows. Ian Bright, former Group Scout Leader, 1st Bakewell Scout Group.
This is really interesting but the attempt to link the Castleton Garland (first written records of the event 1749) to a 3000 year old stone head is dubious to put it mildly. The archaeologist states that it probably was part of a shrine to which the local farmers 'would bring new season's flower offerings for devine intervention'. But we have no way of knowing this. Assuming it was part of a shrine (and that's not a given) they may have simply stood around in silent contemplation like Quakers, or chanted, or sacrificed animals - or virgins! Who knows?
Outstanding.

Deserves more views this, what a fantastic documentary, I thoroughly enjoyed it and some great footage, and those memories, thank you for taking so much time to complete it.
Interesting @ 2:59, imagine if this sort had been around at the start of the Industrial Revolution? Safe to say it wouldn't have happened. Perish the thought.
Totally brilliant really enjoyed thank you
I can't even begin to imagine all the work that went into the making of this film. What beautiful days they must have been. Wish i could go back to those times and these places.
❤️
An excellent video full of history of a time now gone.Well done .
A wonderful and insightful documentary.
A thoroughly enjoyable hour spent. Thank you.
Fascinating and beautifully made. Congratulations on a brilliantly researched and well-compiled film. So much of your time must have been spent providing us with this important record. One can feel the history, lives, and humanity throughout. Magnificent. 🙏
Superb.
Extremely interesting and fantastic that the voices of now departed folk are included. If only more places had their histories recorded like this.
What a fantastic film very good many thanks
I love this film!! Can anybody please tell me the name of the music that is playing in the background from minutes 27.51 until 33.20 please. Thanks.
"Stone Circle" - track 1 on "New Age Dreams" AVP 014 Composed by Paul Farrer.
@@LongstoneLHGroup thank you so much for the info, but I can't find it anywhere! Found loads of Paul Farrer music, just not that.
😊👍 Amazing how short sighted ''committee'' people can be in the UK. No imagination whatsoever! .
I have a picture of me an my mother 1959 in Derwent village area, again in a drought period. She is holding me in a circular window that looks like a crucifix, the window is in stone blocks in an arch shape, I have just seen another video and I realise I am in the windows of the normally submerged pump house.
It's interesting to see in the newspaper of April 1932 an article about the Nazis and Hitler (28:13).
I could spend all night adding superlatives about this video, has it ever been shown on television? Kind regards Peter
This has to be one of the best, if not THE best videos I’ve ever seen on RUclips! A fascinating insight into the development and flooding of the Derwent Valley. One often hears of community projects that aim to record for posterity audio memories of past events of note or just social history. This video surely must be regarded as an exemplar of how to use those precious memories in a sympathetic and highly professional production! I particularly liked the clever blending of voxpop recorded memories with complementary pics and video clips.
A very interesting and well produced video. Fascinating content and well researched presentation. I am inspired to visit and see for myself. Well done!
oh, I say, this is stellar! Really well done and thank you!
Excellently compiled, and great that the memories and voices of those who lived and worked in the area have been recorded and can be cherished by future generations.
A thoroughly enjoyable video to watch. Brilliantly presented and informative. This gives a great addition to the enjoyment of the area when I next visit it. Thanks 👌 😊
🙏😔🙏🇬🇧🙏❤️🙏👑🙏😌🙏☘️🙏🌹🙏
First scene featuring the king unveiling the plaque at the top of steps,,,,,,, What happened to the steps ? has the monument been relocated ?
Nice one sir..... But nae mention of the Ju88 (?) as crashed into the ground just below the farm itsen, as, in your final pictures - just up to the NW of the new viaduct.
Wow. I've read all the books and seen all the vids on the villages and dams and this beats them all. Lots of new info, unseen pictures and a lovely presentation style. Well done Frank and thank you so much for your work.
really good documentary, went to see Derwent a few wks ago, all you could make out was the hall and the church. good to know a bit more about it.
Fabulous well researched film
One of the finest historical films on the net. Thank you for sharing.
Princess Diana father is in the film he worked for the queen
Even her Grandmother, is one of the Lady in waiting of Queen's Mother.
I think that's my bungalow being built.
This was especially interesting for me. My house was allegedly built to include a small number of stones “rescued” from the lost village at Derwent when the ruins reappeared in the drought of 1976.
Eh, me and a pal went up for a gander on my mbike that same year ! 😉
@@suzyqualcast6269 So did I! The water level in Ladybower was even lower than in this video.
Excellent film, very interesting and informative. Always looking for videos etc on Ladybower, can't believe I missed this one!! Lots of footage I have never seen before. Thanks for posting, really enjoyed it.
Oh yes, nothing is more Christian than the re-establishment of imperialism. 😂 The ark of the covenant is an empty throne but some accordion and a branch make us glad to pay the duke.
