Human remains is brilliant, but Nighty Night kills me everytime

Always said to anyone thats willing to listen exactly the same that OGG predates all the much lauded later shows,and pisses me off that it never gets the credit it should

This was a brilliant show. There was also a double glazing “mockumentary” a few years later which was brilliant. I think it was called The Armstrongs, but I might be wrong

Criminally underrated show. You make good points as to why it's a lot less known. It's just never been repeated anywhere! Love, Honour & Obey was also good. Got panned by critics though.

Incredible breakdown of one of my favourite every programmes. Thank you! I completely agree with everything you said, including the potential reasons why certain parts might be deemed too problematic for current broadcast. I'm lucky enough to own the DVD, so don't have to rely on a streaming service picking it up but it's a shame it's not celebrated as much as it deserves. I completely missed the first series and gave it a go in series 2, absolutely loving it. I caught up with series 1 on UK Gold many years ago before making sure I got it on DVD. I actually had an OGG PC desktop wallpaper on my first ever work PC in 2004. Nobody recognised apart from one delivery bloke, who absolutely loved it and also commented on how it was a forerunner for The Office. I've just watched a Ray Burdis interview from 2022 where he said they were looking to make an OGG film, so fingers crossed for that.

Have you heard the vocal stylings of 1960s recording artiste Mrs Miller (not to be confused with the pub sing-a-longs of the prodigious pianist Mrs Mills)? Miller's cover of Petula Clark's "Downtown" makes for an easy gateway. It's not entirely clear whether she was in on the gag, having mentioned in an interview that the production team would cue her in on the wrong beat, suggesting deliberate sabotage for further comedic effect. Any road up, it's worth a listen for a little light relief. On that note, go smash one off. You've earned it.

Thought I had seen most of Julia Davis' stuff but I had never heard of Lizzie and Sarah before, I just watched it now, it's insane haha.

Everything Julia Davis does, I will watch over and over again. She makes me laugh like nothing else.

My two favourite types of comedy are surrealist humour and dark humour - but I don't find depicting domestic abuse to be funny dark comedy - it's too real to be funny. At some point it just becomes a depiction rather than humour.

Nighty Night is forever my ultimate dark comedy, its my favourite tv show of all time. Second is Human Remains. Julia can do no wrong in my eyes!! genius woman!
