Exploring Playa Blanca | Lanzarote | Canary Islands
I recently visited Playa Blanca in Lanzarote and spent some time exploring the area. We checked out several different spots and hiked a few mountains. It’s a great destination for anyone looking to get out of their hotels and enjoy a good walk. Have a great week, everyone!

Via Ferrata Xtreme | Honister Slate Mine | Lake District

This week, we took on the Via Ferrata Xtreme at the Honister Slate Mine in the Lake District. It cost £65 per person and is designed to be a 3-hour activity, which ours took, though the duration can vary depending on the group's pace. If you've never tried it, it's definitely worth booking. I'll be honest, the Infinity Bridge scared me a bit as it feels like your not in control. You can pay an ...

Right people I took a trip over Sharp Edge on my way up to Blencathra at the weekend, I thought it would be worth making a video only dedicated to Sharp Edge for anyone looking at scrambling up it at some point, and to also see how dangerous it is. I will also have a longer video of the whole route next week, cracking day out and the weather was fantastic, defiantly worth tackling if your consi...

This week we decided to tackle The Ullswater Way, a 20 mile walking route that goes around the whole of Ullswater lake. There are villages and eating places along this fairly low-level, easy to walk route, making it ideal for all ages. Dom has been raising money through her work for Alder Hey children'...

Just blitzed all your vids mate, loved them lot of funny moments, is your OCD not niggling you to get into the #330 club and do the OFs, there is currently a Vloger called Dave Ostle Mountain Man who is uploading as he does them & I think hes using the Marshall Specials, would love to see your take on them 😂🥾🥾💙💙⛰️⛰️
Making my way through your Vlogs bud, if you thought the bog on the start of this hike was bad, the Outlying Shap Fells will be traumatic 😂, I think I read Stuart Marshall was a fell runner and they are a diff level of fitness and go through anything and use the sketchy direct routes, loving the videos revisiting where we have trod and seeing views we may not have got on the day 🥾🥾💙💙⛰️⛰️
You lost me when i seen the bud light😂
@@Tony-us5jg haha I know it's bad mate, I was going through a period of not wanting to get on the heavy bevies 😂😂
How would you compare Sharp Edge to Striding Edge, done Striding couple times, not done Sharp, some of you camera action was making me woosie in armchair 😂😂
Sharp edge feels more exposed as it's a lot narrower than striding edge, it's a lot shorter in length though so you cross fairly quick, just got to be careful in what type of weather you go up in, if you've done striding edge and felt ok you should be fine, I always think it looks worse on RUclips 😂
Great Vlog Fella, looking for fresh walks after completing the WWs & WWsOFs, and this is going on the list 🥾🥾⛰️⛰️💙💙
@@codgesexpeditions nice one mate, thinking about doing the outliers next, are they worth doing do you think?
@@MattDoesMountains There are some very simple pleasant walks, then there are some hardcore pathless slogs thru boggy land mainly in the Eastern section of the Shap Fells, that are tougher than any WW hike on the tourist tracks, the South and West walks are more rocky and likend to the stuff your used to on the WWs, I always research and plot my own hikes and sometimes it just a link up the summits best you can from satelite view, but yes well worth doing and tbh we are more proud of the 116 badge than the 214 🥾🥾⛰️⛰️💙💙
@@codgesexpeditionsthanks mate I will definitely start tackling them soon then, just looking for a new excuse to get up the lakes more again and it sounds like a great one 👌 nothing better than walking through bogs moaning your head off for a few hours on the weekend 😂
If you want quality camping rice checkout : Ben's Original One Pan Spanish Paella Rice
Your analysis of the hike using the map was super helpful. Always good to know where the striding/sharp like edges are. Thank you!
@@MarcusJBall no problem mate, glad it helps you out and you can take something from the video, thanks 👌👌
How do you compare this to striding edge of Helvellyn?
I personally think Sharp Edge is more sketchier in the sense of exposure, its a lot narrower, Striding edge is longer to pass over and it also has a safer route worse case.
@@MattDoesMountains cheers, will be doing Blencathra this coming weather permitting. If it's wet and windy, I'll take the easy path. Thanks again.
Looks great fun. Hoping to do it tommorow, weather looks decent enough. Last time it was wet and windy so went up the other side to the summit. 🤞
@@Gmoz79 it's boss mate, been up a few times, just keep an eye on that wind tomorrow, MWIS is saying arduous when exposed so just be careful mate, have a good one 👌👌
@@MattDoesMountainsDid it mate, bit windy but great fun. Definitely not for the faint hearted
@@Gmoz79 Nice mate glad you got over it safe and sound, defiantly hairy in points 😁🦾
I enjoy these roundabout videos. I now look at roundabouts in a different way and wonder how many each can accommodate. I don't get the 'stealth' bit - wandering around with a head torch is a bit of a givaway. However, I admire the effort. Perhaps you can give a Tripadvisor type review for each roundabout - using headings such as 'access', ' cleanliness', 'facilities', and 'the view'. Keep exploring.
Congrats man, huge achievement! Only on 14 myself currently but looking to tick some more off over the coming years :)
@@MrMas9 thank you mate, Its such a good challenge.and good luck doing yours 👌 I would have happily done them a slower.and enjoyed them a bit more looking back now 😄
Thanks for doing videos of the Stuart Marshall routes. Been helpful for deciding which ones to bring the dog along for. Subscribed 👍
No problem mate, always good to see someone taking something out of the videos 👌 thanks for the sub 👍
Take the handle off and get a pan grabber mate.
Never seen one before mate but will definitely pick one up now after looking, will save on the weight as well, thanks 👌
Great videos Matt and the parking info on your walks are fantastic !
No problem, thanks for watching 😀👌
Nice one mate. Enjoyed video. Gonna do Ullswater on Monday, some good tips on your footage. Gave you a follow, as you're a scouser too!!
Thanks Gary, Belter day out this and weathers looking half decent for when you go, Enjoy and nice one for subbing !!
Nice one ,a good breakdown of the route ,plus the info of the extra parking...
No worries mate, thanks for the comment 👌👌
Hi Matt. RUclips served up your video after I was researching the Greenburn Round. We base a lot of walks around Grasmere so this looks ideal. My wife is not good with scrambling and edges so some research of routes is required (and my track record has not been great) to make sure it meets the requirement! Thanks for taking the time to put this together and posting. This is the first of your videos I have watched but I found the format VERY useful, particularly the route overview at the end with maps; something that is often missing from other videos. As a result, you have anew subscriber. I see that you post your GPX tracks to Outdooractive so I have followed you there. After watching your video, I think this walk is added to my list as apart from the boggy ground, there doesn't seem to be any dangerous edges or scrambling. Thanks again!
Thanks for the comment and sub Martyn, good to hear you've took something from the video, Really good walk this and one of my favourite in the Lakes apart from the bogs, nothing dangerous on this one so your wife will be fine, The gpx is linked on most of my routes and if you see me make any mistakes i mention in the summary you can always change up slightly, i always put the gpx up as a guide rather than gospel, enjoy your walk when you go mate 👍👍
Boss vid this mate, the bothy is like something off Blair witch project though, deffo wouldn't do it solo 😂😂😂
@@mywildadventures88 thanks mate, totally agree, i went the toilet in the middle of the night and it's pretty dark and scary 😅😅

Nice one fella. Doing this route today. Out of curiosity what GPS do you use?

Love this style of content. really informative pal. you'll help loads of people like this
Thank you mate, I really appreciate the comment 👌
Likewise…. I’m sick of bumping into serial killers at the top of fells 🥸

Excellent footage
Thanks mate 👌
Awesome videos mat well done 👏✔️👍
@@seandarbyshire9966 cheers mate 👌
bro.... why would you timelapse the inflate times?!
I don't think no one wants to watch me blow the matt up mate, to shorten the video and I wouldn't lie about inflation times 👍
Yes. Because no one on the internet manipulates info on a product they have an affiliate link for in the video description.
@@Mad5cout that's your opinion mate, I know the truth and I don't lie, I've got to try and make some money to support the channel costs 👍 no need to buy it if you don't trust the information
@@MattDoesMountains The issue is the conflict of interest. I don't fault you for the affiliate link. If people don't want to watch the entire inflate time, they can advance the video on their own. The point of reviews like this is so that the viewer can confirm info and it just looks suspect that you pass by the primary piece of info that people would want to confirm for this product. Anyway, thanks for the review.
Nice one, Mat. I was camping there couple weeks ago. Wasn't sure about Jack's rake - I'm not great with heights and not experienced with climbing/scrambling. So gave it a swerve. Pleased I did. Mountain rescue will be pleased too! 😅
Haha made me laugh this mate about the mountain rescue 😅 unbelievable spot for a camp, one of my favorite places in the lakes, honestly though it's not too bad, I suppose though it's hard to speak for everyone, my girlfriend didn't fancy it either, I absolutely love scrambling mate so it's a good bit of fun for me 🤙🤙
its a bit big bro, how long does it take a little flextail pump to blow up your mat matt oh i got my two covacour hammocks and yes lovin them bro i was gunna go out tonight in one but never,, mite go tomoz so thanx for that bro
Yeah it depends on the use mate, it's faster than a flex tail but obviously bigger and heavier, ide use it more for campsites rather than Wildcamping as I've got both pumps, I've never timed the flex tail really but ide so no more than a minute to inflate,.glad.your enjoying the hammocks mate, with the weather getting warmer it's ideal to get out in them and I probably will soon myself 👌
matt seen someones video who stayed there sick and that little room is to store wood to dry bro i think them real turmat meals r top mate but there about £12 quid
Ah right mate makes sense that with the room, yeah tbf they are proper nice mate but expensive as you say, i know some people are happy to pay it but ide always recommend keeping it in peoples budget.🤙
For some reason the mention of Grasmere makes it sound easy, but mate it's not. It's straight up not an easy doo this one, dunno...might just have been me - haven't been hitting the lakes like I did before but I really found this one a grueller. High Raise was a f*cker for some reason even though it was just a grassy incline. Anyway, all best lad.
I agree mate it's a one of the harder Wainwright bagging routes just due to the fact of how long it is and when your coming to the last few you've been out.for hours, I've done it twice and both times was knackered at the end
Good vid thanks.
Thanks mate 🤙
Only been to Wales twice, and I was in Wales in April and the Weather was fantastic. I ventured to Bledgellert and what a beautiful place. Did a decent hike on my way Mynydd Mawr, as I find hiking in Wales intimdating. This hike was brilliant, fabulous views. Then went to Bedgellert for a brew and then a delicious Ice Cream.
I don't venture up to Wales much myself even though it's fairly close to Liverpool, I definitely want to start going.more now though as it feels a lot different to the lake district, it feels more out in the sticks which is nice, it sounds like you had a great time when you went there.👌👌
There are no "best" wild camping spots in the Lake District, because Wild Camping is illegal there....
😂😂😂
Great video thanks Matt!
Thank you 👌👌
If you try the north side of kinder it’s night a day in terms of how busy it is and for me it’s much better views
Thank you mate will make a note of this and go at some point 👌👌
Great video thank you. I made a m8stake last week thought I could leap over a bog. Needless to say I didn't exactly leap and landed short of the dry bit. My God the mud!
Thank you, haha the amount of times you think your safe and another bog appears, love the route but the mud is rough 🙈🤣
Awesome videos love how you explain the route take it easy⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍
Thanks a lot Sean 👌👌

Such a good place mate and I always wondered myself what it was like up close, nice one for watching 👌👌
Hi Matt, I have been a fan of your vids for a while now, but bizarrely your dad is next to my dad in Fazak at the min. Nice guy and keeping mine company.
Haha me arl feller is mad mate loves talking to people, ide love to know how that come about that he mentioned my channel 🤣 small world though, hope your dad gets better soon aswell mate 👌
@@MattDoesMountains Yeah, he was keeping my entertained. Sadly, my dad has dementia and was in for sepsis, but your dad was kind enough to chat to him and distract him from getting overly agitated. Please tell him thanks for that - really appreciated and kind of him to be sympathetic. Your dad was telling us all about your channel and I mentioned that I'd watched your videos. Small world.

Thank you and I appreciate the kind words, glad they help you out and good luck, it's a great walk, not long to go for your finish either 👌👍
Love that place its like my local 🤣🤣, there last weekend few beers and some good bait with me son and work mate , headed over to sharp edge the following day and descended via halls fell ridge 👍👍. didn't see the northern light either , great video.
Its a stunning place mate, walked past it a couple of times after walking around Blencathra, would definitely return as its nice and chilled out, sounds like you've had some great times up there mate 👌 I know man gutted about the Northern Lights 😂
Slung our Vango xenon F10 in that exact same spot and our ferrino force 2 just in front of it the next time. Think you have it all to yourself until going back down in the morning and there's a dozen folks with backpacks doing the same.
Haha what's the chances mate, nice little spot that, just enough to get my tent in and yeah when I woke up there was tents everywhere, didn't know it was so popular
Camped there twice now. Easy to get to and quiet mid week. Mill Inn is worth staying in too if you make a few days of it. Blencathra is a hike away too.
Lovely spot mate, even over the weekend it was pretty chilled out, will be returning at some stage, Ive popped in the Mill in a couple of times for a pint after hiking Blencathra, spot on pub and might stay there at some point now that you've mentioned it 👌

16:20 that's Halls Fell Ridge, great scramble that, quite long, I usually come up that way. Top day that, got the weather for a change 😊 I think the cross was built in memory of someone who lived in Threlkeld below, been there years that but don't remember it being that big 😮
Funny enough another person I follow literally posted a video the other day scrambling up that ridge for a wild camp on Blencathra, Looks a belter and would love to tackle it at some point for a different perspective, you've just reminded me to check the cross out and yeah your right lad, a memorial for somebody who died near by, I think when I first went up with you about 15 years ago it looked completely different
